Things have definitely changed at this place. The burritos are smaller now, and they include less of the fillings. I paid extra for potatoes, and there were probably a tablespoon of potatoes put in. To make it worse, every time I have placed an online order, it is never ready when I arrive. I have had to go to the register to ask, and only then do they actually start making it. They also cannot look up your loyalty account, and they just tell you to get the app Granted, this is a still a solid experience and delivers a good burrito, plus it has a lot of good options (I am happy they added Beyond Meat). My husband live next door so we go to this location often. How good the food is depends on whose working that day, lol. I've had certain people load up my burrito, and others completely hold out on toppings I ask for (giving me like half a spoonful or less). The quesadillas are good but they need some work. They completely fall apart. The filling to cheese ratio is pretty uneven. Other than a few qualms here and there, my husband and I will continue support this location. A long wait for a cold, overcooked, incorrect order. The staff clearly hate their jobs.

In a word, underwhelming. I've passed Freebirds many times going by on 620, and finally got around to trying it one Sunday afternoon. I realize that this is a popular option for lunch by the local college students and office workers, but I don't see the appeal. A friend and I tried both a chicken and steak taco. Both were reasonably priced for the portion size, but meat and veggies were strangely lacking in flavor. Additionally, the cooked onions had an overly watery, overcooked texture. The tortillas used were also strangely gummy, which is a puzzle after having so many excellent ones in the Austin area. On the whole, I'd rate this on a par with my college cafeteria food. Service was prompt and friendly, though we were the only ones in line (and there were a half-dozen people sprinkled about the place). It was also clean, but someone had left the hip-hop music up at such a high volume that I found it difficult to talk to someone sitting across from me. I'm not sure what the deal is with establishments that do this. Given that the seating is meant to pack in as many people as they can in a limited space, this is to encourage you to eat and move on. Would I try Freebirds again? Sure, they were friendly enough, and there's always a chance I caught them at a bad time. But if this is the typical fare they offer, then it's worth considering that Austin is awash in truly great Tex-Mex places. This place scores a 2 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. This one tasted like a 7 layer burrito from taco bell The first 75% was literally nothing but refried beans and rice (WAY too much and not spread out). The next 20% was pure veggies and pico. Well. This isn't chipotle. And Not impressed by their customer service at all. The only good employee that place has that is worth anything is Ryan, he is an awesome young man. On Sunday's, they close at nine, but they were ruder than most when we said we were sitting in to eat. We have had a long day just as they have I mistakes their hours for the usual hours of 10pm closing and we stayed too late. They made it clear they didn't want us there, so we obliged and left quickly. There was a girl who gave us our drinks and she stuck her hand INSIDE the cup on each and every one of them. They are so skimpy on what they put in each of the bowls that you have to ask them to put a little more and they roll their eyes. It's also a $5 up charge for this Texas Brisket thing they have going on right now. Making a normal bowl $15. If there was a chipotle next to it I would go right to it. Not only are the people nicer, but the prices are just way better, and you don't have a girl sticking her hand in your cup before you get it. read more

So glad they put one up in this neck of the woods but damn they stay busy. You have to plan your visit here or you may end up stuck in a very long line. Parking can be a bit of a bear as well. You are better off parking off in the distance so you can get in and out easier. This area has been starved of good dining for years and now that we finally have some places everybody is out and about. Unless you are familiar with Freebirds you may not understand that these are not your traditional Mexican style burrito's. They put their own spin on them and let me tell you that you will not be disappointed. They have many varieties to include Bowl and Salad style burritos. I guess they really aren't Burrito's but I like calling them that just the same. If your wanting something, fresh, tasty and different give them a try. If your familiar with Freebirds, this location is one of the best. I am Vegan, and over-excited about their protein addition. The employees were happy, friendly, and eager to please their guests. We got freebirds today as both my husband and I had hangover belly and wanted something to make us feel warm and cozy in side. This was our first time and we usually go to chipotle for our normal fast food style TEXMEX fix. However, we will be going here from now on because my Salad bowl was so fulfilling and delicious! I loved the new caulirice as I'm trying to watch what i eat on the weekends more often now! My husband got the regular burrito and omg that cayenne tortilla was so good! I'm not sure what has happened to this location, but my latest visit on 6/22/20 will definitely be our last! Just reiterating what everyone else has said. Upon entering the restaurant your hit with animosity and irritation when you walk up- not a friendly greeting. They obviously would rather be anywhere else but there, particularly the woman. I received eye rolls and exasperated sighs while she put my salad together. I tried not to piss her off anymore than she already was.... I was obviously not successful. I've been a regular customer at this location for years getting a family meal every week on average, but I will probably stop. The quality is ok? Not great but at least it has been consistent. That's not the problem. It's the portion control. It's been getting steadily worse and now has pretty much gone too far. I split a "monster" with a side of chips with my youngest kid. We moved here a month ago and was super excited that a Freebirds was close to our new home. Ordered here 4 times for to-go and wow, this place is super inconsistent. Nachos without queso TWICE now. I can't use a gift card I bought at H-E-B for four weeks so far because systems are down. I order and it says a time it will be ready, well it's not so I have to wait for 30 additional minutes past that time. Call to order on phone to get better estimate of time, get hung up on after being told to hold. If it wasn't for my love of this place when we lived in TX previously, I would totally write it off. The food is unremarkable at best. With 10 new restaurants coming in including chipotle - who sells the EXACT same thing as Freebirds - their days are numbered. This is the only freebirds location I have ever been to and I probably will ever go to because I I am afraid of change and refuse to drive any further from my home But every time I go in everyone is always super nice and helpful and really fast. Freebirds is good food and you always know what you are getting (partly because you are creating it yourself!). My go to is either the burrito bowl or nachos. They are large portions that almost always require me to take it home. Carnitas and chicken are flavorful as are the onions and peppers. Prices are good and typical of what you would spend at a quality fast food joint. $8-$12 per person. One of the best things about Freebirds is that kids eat free on Sunday. The kids get a small burrito or quesadilla/chips/drink. For under $30, our family of 4 can eat pretty well on Sunday. This includes our adult entrees with added drinks and dip (guacamole/queso). As you can imagine, this is the place to be after church. We arrived between12:15 and 12:30. Perfect Timing! Ok once 1pm hit, the line was ridiculous. Otherwise, this is my favorite location. I am so disappointed in leaving this review because I love eating here. I ordered grub hub- a steak salad bowl with lettuce beans tomatoes Spanish rice extra pico de Gallo extra salsa . Not only did I not receive extra salsa and Pico, I receive None At All!!!! This is the 2nd time this has happened.!!! To makes matters worse I called after an hour and ask if my food was ready for pick up yet for grub hub driver. The guy said it's been waiting for 10 mins. When I called grub hub the agent callled restaurant and got a different answer. The food arrived 30 mins later and was cold. Came with the office for lunch after a long hiatus of going to Chipotle over Freebirds. Still love the classic Freebird burrito but this review is about the pot brownies. The pot brownies used to be magical. Crunchy all the way around. Chunks of chocolate. A real legit experience, probably even cooked in big cast iron molds. Very surprised I hadn't been here yet! It's tucked away off 620, where there aren't large signs...actually keeps the area very nice looking without huge advertisement. This is a standard Freebirds, though a little less "loud" than other locations: no massive amounts of aluminum foil artwork all over the walls. The ingredients are good, and it never takes too long to get your burrito (or whatever) made. The barbeque sauce is very good here. I recommend it with just about anything! read more

My first experience with the new Freebirds on 620... I got there 5 minutes before closing, stood at the counter waiting for help while employees tried not to make eye contact while cleaning, then had a woman very rudely come out and tell me they were closed, right as the clock struck closing time. Awesome! Was able to stop in a month later, and found it to be a very mediocre Chipotle-like restaurant. It's not really much worse than the rest of the 620 fast-food and sports bar fare, but this is Austin, and we have too many terrific options to consider this more than an option for when you have no time to go somewhere good. read more
