Had a french gel manicure and regular pedicure on a Saturday afternoon. I arrived 10 minutes ahead of my appointment to pick colors and was offered water or prosecco...nice touch. I was struck by the "shopworn" look of the entry...the rug was discolored and dirty and there was an "aloha" door mat by the front desk that just needed to be thrown out...it was black with dirt...I honestly don't know why it was there...The seats are comfortable but again, the pillows are faded and lumpy and the tech chairs - chic white at one time, were faded and dirty...The bathroom was kind of messy - like no one had looked in there to see if it was decent...water all over the sink and floor. I just got the feeling that this place was trying to reflect a NY salon and I'm sure when it was newly opened it did just that...anyway, I had a nice pedicure experience, although as previously mentioned, the water doesn't stay warm for long...but I get it. I appreciated my technician asking about my feet and nails. The gel manicure was nice and so far I am pleased with the result. Devon; my technician, was a pleasure. I'm just having a hard time justifying paying double what you would pay at a "typical" salon. With tip, my services cost $120. That's pretty steep...and more than enough for the owner of this salon to renew the well used items. Love the concept tho... read more

I had been looking forward to going to Mylkbar since it opened. I finally made an appointment to come in and get a shellac mani. The decor is amazing and the nail artists are super nice. Everything was great with my nails when I left. The next day I noticed one of my nails starting to chip, and then it continued on to a couple more. For having a shellac mani the nail polish shouldn't be chipping the next day.. just a bummer. read more

I've been coming to Mylkbar since it opened, once a month or so, and I couldn't be happier! I love the staff and the owner (I didn't know any of them prior to becoming a client)! The space is so stylish and trendy and they have top notch nail art (and are always adding new designs!)! I highly recommend booking with Lauren, Brittany, or Alex, all three are amazing and truly love their job! Having an amazing staff and amazing decor is great and all but it ultimately comes down to the manicure...which couldn't be better! I've never had a problem with chipping and I'm so thankful they don't use products with harmful chemicals. Before coming to Mylk I had only had one gel mani and I felt like my nails were suffocating, but using the gel from Mylk makes my nails feel great and it lasts so long! The space is also so clean, they have unplugged pedicures so your bowl is very clean and they use disposable tools (which they always offer you to take home at the end!). Tips: -Unlike most nail salons appointments are real here (hooray for respecting your time!) so make sure you book in advance! -Make sure to check out their retail selection! They carry some wonderful goodies! Especially the sugar scrub, it is made in house! -Don't forget your phone! You're going to want to instagram everything, from the palm leaf wallpaper to the neon pink #mylkmani sign, you're going to want to show off your day! (and your mani!) -Bring your bestie! Enjoy some rosé and have some fun while you relax and get pampered! -Don't be shy, I totally messed up my nail one time after leaving and sent them a message and they had me come back in to fix it for free. This salon is a step above all others! Not only is the decor adorable, the staff were all knowledgeable, friendly, and talented! I requested a custom nail art design and I had two nail artists collaborate ideas and techniques to ensure it was just perfect!! It was not the usual "get in/get out" mentality you get other places! I received a mani/pedi with nail art with a friend who received the same and could not agree more with Harper's review. We were chastised for being 2 minutes late when our clocks said we arrived 1 minute early. No matter "how tight of a ship" you run you should not make the customer feel uncomfortable for hitting traffic. If customers look at all the rules before booking an appointment, it should be a tell tale sign of how the owner will act. The girls who do the service are sweet so this is not a full reflection on them but mostly on the owner's unprofessional, passive-aggressive attitude. It should not be this difficult to book a relaxing service, especially to be dissatisfied when the service is over. You have to pick your nail art in advance when you book, which would be better if there was more flexibility. The nail art didn't work out as planned because the artist could not do what was offered and booked in advance. The owner acted like it was such an inconvenience for her to change it in her system upon checkout, and made it a point to express her attitude on the subject. It was an over priced service for what was received and we will not be going back based on the owner's attitude. I asked for matching finger and toe polish but I received different colors on the fingers and the toes, and there was a hair stuck in my gel polish. I also expect to see this on the Instagram account as I have seen many other classless posts by the owner about negative reviews received. read more

I came here for a Mani/Pedi before my wedding and had THE BEST TIME EVER!!! We were previously booked with a different salon in Mt. Pleasant but I read reviews on yelp that steered us away from them and my sister found MylkBar and I couldn't have been happier!!! We had Alex, Angelica and Rayvin for our services and they were all phenomenal! When we first arrived there was a slight error with our bookings and the owner Katie did EVERYTHING in her power to fix the issue (which actually turned out to be just a simple misunderstanding, not an issue at all!) She was so fantastic, very personable and clearly passionate about her business and employees. Such a kind and welcoming environment!! Angelica patiently assisted Alex with a technique she wasn't familiar with, witnessing the teamwork and positive energy this nail salon made the experience that much more enjoyable! These ladies are awesome at and passionate about their art and have the experience part down pat even though they haven't been open more than a few months. Customer service and cleanliness was on point, Rayvin was even able to add a longer massage onto my sister's pedicure last minute further accommodating our every need. Their pedicure bowls and tools are the most sanitary method I have experienced in this industry and the hot towels and homemade sugar scrub were the perfect addition to a relaxing foot massage! Hands down, this is the best experience I've ever had at a nail salon! First, you walk in and there is no chemical smell....if you closed your eyes you would never guess you were in a nail salon! Second, the ambiance is just incredible, boho-chic with a coastal touch...just perfect! The service was outstanding, and CLEAN!! I enjoyed a glass of rose and got a five star manicure! Mylkbar is as clean as it is cute! The decor is gorgeous - it has a beachy, feminine vibe which is perfect for its location. It smells good- not like any salon I've ever been too. I really wanted to like this place. They have great marketing on social media and so when I went in, my expectations were pretty high. This was around Christmas and so I figured I'd get a nice green color (was sick of the red) and possibly a design to go with it. Upon arriving, I was impressed by the interior design, but didn't have a place to sit. There are these swings hanging from the ceiling but I went to sit in one and felt like A.) It was just for decoration and B.) It might collapse under my 115 lb. weight. I then started looking for a green gel polish that I would like and they did not have any green polish... I was really confused by this. One of the technicians said she could try to mix a color for me but it turned out to be a light teal color instead of the forest green I was hoping for. I chose not to get a design because OMG they are expensive! And my polish came off within about a week. I ended up having to get my nails done again elsewhere before Christmas. I have no clue how other people get their polish to stay on for over 3 weeks from there. Anyway, it's a cute place with good marketing but when it comes down to it, I can't give more than three stars. read more

I am so glad that Milk Bar has opened in CHS! I used to frequent a similar nail salon in Boston, and was lost without a surgical grade sterilized, non-jetted (actually no-tub), nail salon in Charleston until Mylk! I have had 3 gel manicures (Abbey and Shondra) and all have lasted 3+ weeks! I also should mention that I am a Physician Assistant full time, and work at a fitness studio, so I wash and Purell my hands nonstop and use bleach/cleaning wipes on a more than regular basis without any issues! I have had one pedicure as well, and it was fantastic. The polishes are beautiful and non-toxic, just like the space. They do not clip cuticles which has left my nails and nail beds healthier. I used to pick my cuticles actually, and this has stopped that awful habit in its tracks. I cannot recommend MylkBar enough, and I LOVE being able to book online. Lastly, they stick to their appointment times which is a must for your already busy schedule! read more
