I was driving through the desert when all of the sudden my car started giving me strange error codes then the engine light (not the check engine light) started flashing. I lost power and was stuck on the side of HWY 395. Waiting for a tow truck and being far from home I went to Yelp to find a mechanic and yet again Yelp did not let me down. Hundreds of 5 star reviews, for good reason. I called and Jeremy picked up right away, was courteous, professional and told me to have the tow truck bring it down and they will prioritize it bc im a traveller, he said he'll having me up and going in no time, unless it was a catastrophic failure. So even though id be passing by many other shops on the way in I knew this is the place I had to go. I was met by Brett with a smile and a firm handshake at the shop and immediately he grabbed his scan tools and said lets go check it out! Wow! Long story short, his expertise immediately led him to the culprit, a loose battery terminal! To think, all this caused by such a seemingly innocuous problem. How many techs would have solved that issue so quickly I thought, and what would they cost me in time and money to solve it. He told me to drive around a bit, and see if the issue came back, and if not, take care and safe travels! I tried to follow him into the building and pay him for his time and expertise, I was truly thankful. He told me not to worry about it, if I knew people from the area to send them their way. I then tried to offer to buy them lunch and he replied they just had lunch but thank you for the offer. I chose Freedom Auto Repair because of its excellent reputation and specifically sought an independent shop to objectively diagnose persistent front suspension noises on my 2018 Chevrolet Malibu after extensive suspension work had already been completed elsewhere. Before my appointment, I completed their online intake form with a detailed description of the symptoms and my request for a comprehensive diagnosis. My appointment was on June 29, 2026. Jeremy, the owner, rode with me during a test drive, and together we identified multiple distinct noises coming from the front suspension, including an unusual noise that could be felt and heard through the brake pedal. Before I left the vehicle with them, I understood that all of those concerns would be diagnosed and repaired. Freedom Auto Repair kept my vehicle from June 29 until July 21. During that time, they contacted me several times to thank me for my patience, which I appreciated. When I was notified the vehicle was ready, I asked to test drive it before paying. During that drive, it became apparent that while some of the noises had been eliminated, several of the original noises were still present. I calmly explained that this wasn't consistent with my original service request or with my understanding of what we had discussed before I left the vehicle. Unfortunately, that conversation took an unexpected turn. Jeremy immediately disputed my recollection of our initial discussion and insisted we had never discussed eliminating all of the noises. That was not how I remembered our conversation. He became increasingly frustrated, stated that he was "through with this car," and after I questioned his version of events, he told me, "get out of my shop" and "don't you ever step foot in it again." At no point did I refuse to pay for the work. In fact, I had cash in my hand and intended to pay after confirming the repairs addressed the issues we had discussed. Instead, Jeremy returned my keys and refused payment. While I ultimately wasn't charged for the work, this experience wasn't about the money. It was about the way I was treated as a customer. After waiting more than three weeks for the vehicle, I expected to have a professional discussion about the remaining concerns. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and unwelcome simply for questioning whether the repairs fully addressed the problems I brought the vehicle in for. Every repair shop can encounter a difficult diagnosis. What distinguishes a great shop is how it communicates with customers when expectations differ. Unfortunately, my experience fell well short of the professionalism I expected based on Freedom Auto Repair's reputation. I cannot recommend the shop based on the way this situation was handled. UPDATE AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE BELOW After reading Jeremy's response, I want to clarify several points. First, I did not refuse to pay. I had just come from the ATM and arrived with cash in hand. Such is easily verified with a simple review of his in-store surveillance. Jeremy and I agreed at drop-off that I would test drive the vehicle before payment, so my request to do so was exactly what we had discussed. Second, this has never been about what was or wasn't written on the repair order. During our initial road test, Jeremy and I identified multiple suspension noises, including the brake pedal noise, and my understanding was that these concerns would be diagnosed and resolved. Several of those same noises remained when I picked up the vehicle. Third, Jeremy says I insulted him. I did not call him names or use profanity. I told him, "You are being dishonest and twisting yourself into a pretzel to rewrite the nature of our discussion when I dropped the vehicle off." Readers can decide whether that was a personal insult or my frustration after being told a conversation I clearly remember never happened. Finally, Jeremy states he performed "three weeks of work" while also claiming the approved repair was simply replacing both lower control arms. My vehicle remained there from June 29 to July 21. called about dropping a vehicle off for crank no start, i explained all issues to the person i talked to on the phone they estimated 250 to diagnose the problem and directed me to drop it off the following day. i towed the vehicle to the shop and upon arrival i was told they were to busy to take any vehicles and after a quick glance inside the vehicle i was told they will not take the car at all. overall communication sucked and i wasted a tow. read more

Took my 1996 Toyota Tacoma in for air conditioner repair. They quoted me a possible $2300 if needed the whole system replaced. After a few days they called and said that it was a loose bolt at the bottom and it just needed tightened and the refrigerant recharged. This year I had a "Check Engine" light right when my smog was due. Freedom Auto Repair fixed the problem and at a good value. When I took it to be smog checked, it failed because of a Permanent Fault Code (new 2019 rule). Vehicles newer than 2010, will fail even without a "Check Engine" light with a Permanent Fault Code. The code just means a problem "once" existed and now the car must run self- system checks to confirm it is fixed. The fault can only be cleared by driving 15 specific drive cycles and logging over 200 miles. In many cases it can take 44 drive cycles before it clears. In my opinion, Freedom Auto Repair's obligation to me ended when they fixed the "Check Engine" light. It's not their responsibility to "fix" the government. Seeing I was in distress they continued to check my car and even drove the cycles for me without charging extra. MY CAR PASSED!!!! These are honest hard-working people who really want to help. Thank you again Jeremy! I was on my way to California from Vegas when we started hearing a loud screeching sound. I have my family in the car, including a 7 week old, so naturally I was panicking. Very friendly office staff but prices are expensive. I found them on Yelp and reached out because they were highly rated. I had to bring the car in to get an estimate. All I wanted was my spark plugs changed and maybe my coils if needed. Their quote was insane. My spark plugs are literally on top of my motor and are super easy to get to. Not more than a 30 minute job with the right tools. Anyway, because I put a request on Yelp for estimates, I found another shop not too far that did the exact same job for less than half of what they quoted me. However, the shop was very modernized and their response time was quick. When I got to the shop, I was attended to immediately and given a quote within 15 minutes. Jeremy found out that it just a loose screw that let the ac clutch out. He could have said that I needed a new compressor and would have believed him. They fixed my car for a reasonable price in a short time with a good warranty. They were far better than the Kia dealership in Victorville! I will never be going back to that dealership.
