So fun! Go support local and meet the lovely ones who make this possible. Adorable calves and goats and cows waiting to greet you -- and an amazing new-ish farm store for all your needs.

If you were to choose between Rocking Horse Ranch and Great Wolf Lodge, it's an easy choice. Yes,…read moreRocking Horse Ranch is more expensive but there is an endless amount of activities for the kids to do. We came on the coldest weekend of the year but my kids had a blast skiing, snow tubing, horseback riding, pony rides, arcade, game room, playing laser tag, swimming in the pool, the outdoor hot tub, and the nightly shows. Food is included in the price and it is buffet style for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is not but you are more than welcome to order more and take things to go. There's snacks available between lunch and dinner but there's also hot chocolate/coffee available all day long with some pastries. The only downside were the rooms. They are connected so if you have loud neighbors, you won't be getting good sleep. Overall, my kids loved the place and want to go back soon. I guess we'll have to wait for another Black Friday deal.

We stayed at Rocking Horse Ranch Tuesday through Thursday on a midweek deal and had a really…read moreenjoyable experience. I went with my wife and our two adult children (18 and 24). While they are a bit older than the resort's main target audience, it ended up being a great fit, especially since they had never been horseback riding and hadn't skied before. Everyone had a great time. We stayed in the main building in a room with two queen beds and bunk beds. The room was very clean, and the beds were comfortable with soft mattresses and pillows. Temperature-wise, it was funny, my son and I were warm, while my wife and daughter were cold, so I guess that means the room temperature was just right. One thing to note: the walls are thin. You can definitely hear noise from nearby rooms and above. Since this is a family-focused resort, that's kind of expected. It didn't bother us, but if you're looking for total quiet, this may not be the place. Since it was midweek, there were discounts, and they even offered us on our last night an extra night for and even more discounted rate. We were ready to head home, but I would absolutely consider staying longer next time. The resort is all-inclusive, and the food was solid overall. * Breakfast was your typical buffet--scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast, etc. They will cook eggs to order if you ask. * Lunch was buffet-style as well and changed daily. Not amazing, but it got the job done. * Dinner was my favorite meal and felt a bit higher quality, with multiple courses and limited menu options (which I actually liked). * Dessert was fun, especially the ice cream machine. One thing I noticed is that the food is served at a kid-friendly temperature, which took a little getting used to. I'm guessing they do this so kids don't get burned. The activities were the highlight. Skiing was fantastic because it was almost empty, there were only a few other people on the hill. Since I hadn't skied since the early 90s, it was great to have the space to fall a few times without worrying about others. The staff was extremely helpful and encouraging. The hill is more like a bunny slope, but honestly, it's perfect for beginners. If you spent a few days learning here, you'd feel confident going to a bigger mountain. Horseback riding was also great, and since it was midweek, we could have gone multiple times a day. The indoor/outdoor heated pool was really nice, and there's even a waterslide. A lot of the resort seems better suited for summer, and some things were closed for winter, but we came mainly for skiing, so that didn't bother us. The staff deserves a lot of credit. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, and we never felt rushed. There's a saloon downstairs where they run games at night and offer a free drink of the night. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are always available. One small downside: when the dining areas close at night, soda machines aren't accessible, so you'd need to use vending machines (machines were coin only, so I couldn't use my Apple Pay), which felt a little odd for an all-inclusive resort. But, you can grab drinks to go while the dining room is open. On our last day, they let us do a late checkout since no one was checking into our room. We were able to grab lunch and head out without rushing, which was really appreciated. Definitely a lot more things I can talk about, but these were just the stand out things I remember. Overall: Rocking Horse Ranch is a great choice for families, beginners learning to ski, or anyone looking for a relaxed, all-inclusive getaway--especially midweek when it's quieter. It's not luxury, and it's definitely kid-focused, but it's fun, comfortable, and well-run. I'd absolutely go back.

I confess that I was uptight about driving around up here at night but finally figured out that if I stayed on Rt. 23 North to where it crosses with Glendale Rd. (listed as County Rd. 565), I'd be ok. Straight up, make a right, and follow that twisting road to the Farm. Going back later, take 565 West to Rt. 23 and then down to Rt. 287. Pretty straightforward. I came early, thinking parking might be a problem, but it wasn't. At that point, the wedding party and family members were taking pictures in the back, so I loitered around the side. I'm more socially adept than I used to be, but being social does require a lot of energy from me, especially when I'm around a large group of people that I don't know or haven't seen in several years, and I was somewhat depleted at that point, suffering the aftereffects of a bad migraine, an adverse reaction to the migraine medication, and lack of sleep. But this was my oldest friend's son getting married, and I was determined to soldier on. The "cocktail bar" was opened, and, in the past, that would have been a problem for me. Temptation beckoned. Socially uncomfortable? Have a few drinks, and if you're not quite transformed into the life of the party, at least you'll loosen up. Thankfully, I resisted that Dionysian siren call. The thought of driving home on those twisting, darkened roads was daunting enough sober. Drunk? Suicidal. Also, the memory of trying to "loosen up" and succeeding was a rare one. Much more common were memories of becoming an insufferable a**hole. So, I stuck with water. And Coke. The wedding was held outside, with the idyllic backdrop of the surrounding hills and mountains, and cows feeding peacefully in the pasture beyond, serving to set the appropriate mood. The minister (I believe from the Universal Life Church?) asked everyone to shut off their cellphones and such so that we could all be fully engaged in the service. A few minutes later, a cow in the field moo-ed the longest, loudest moo I've ever heard from a cow (admittedly, I haven't heard too many, being a child of suburbia), and I quipped to my neighbor sotto voce, "Someone forgot to tell Bessie to quiet down." Ha ha. The service was lovely. Thankfully, it was a beautiful day, moving towards a glorious dusk and sunset, as my friend and his ex-wife (who was and still is a wonderful lady) escorted their son to the altar. Then the bride-to-be was escorted to the altar by her parents. Afterwards, we moved inside the converted, modernistic barn. I was seated at Table 13, and thought, "Is that an omen?" Turns out, it wasn't. I was seated with a friendly group. I only knew 1 person at the table, but most of us had a Wayne background (as in Wayne NJ). People were dancing towards the front, and the music was loud, so conversation was episodic and minimal, but we did agree, old-timers that we were, that the music we grew up on was far superior to what they were listening to nowadays. One gentleman at the table mentioned Billy Joel as being in that superior category, and I diplomatically refrained from commenting; things I've learned never to discuss at large gatherings with people I don't know well-- (a) politics (b) religion, and (c) my antipathy to the music of Billy Joel. The food was very good, served buffet style. Fresh potatoes, vegetables, chicken, a delicious squash soup. And the appetizers that were served during cocktail hour-- a puff pastry I couldn't identify but was tasty; a substantive cheese ball; pork sliders that I could have made a meal of. There were pleasant moments for me. My friend's older sister, whom I've known since I was 7, came to me and re-introduced me to various members of her immediate family, telling me I should take a seat at their table. I would have, but I didn't want my "Table 13" comrades to think I'd spurned their company. But it was a nice, warm moment. And as I got ready to leave, my friend hugged me and said, "This guy is my brother." For someone who always felt like an outsider standing beyond the circle, it was nice to be reminded that this was 1 circle that I was a part of. The drive to Rt. 23 was a bit hairy, with my cataract-afflicted eyes, but thankfully that affliction wasn't compounded by alcohol. I made it home in 1 piece. Any criticisms? The bathrooms leave something to be desired. Often, there was a line outside. The doors seemed flimsy, with outside light filtering in through the cracks. If you're only micturating, as I was, not a big deal. And the price for the wedding is not cheap. Still, this is a wonderful, gloriously rustic venue to have a wedding at, or some other event. Beautiful memories are created in this setting that will last a lifetime. Peace, love and prosperity to the happy couple, and to all couples! May you enjoy a long, healthful and happy life together!

I was part of a bridal party that recently had a wedding at this venue. The venue is wonderful and…read morescenic, the food is decent but the service is absolutely terrible. Weddings are stressful, this venue went out of its way to add to that stress. The wedding coordinator Christie was absent for the entire preparation of the ceremony with the exception of stopping in to make sure the bride had alcoholic beverages (the least of anyone's concerns). The bridal party was left to figure it out for them selves. The groomsmen had absolutely no guidance whatsoever. Christie emerged from the abyss at the last second to make it look like she was doing something only to disappear again shortly afterwards. We were told it was the first wedding she coordinated which makes sense as she appeared to be a hostess who was promoted at last second to get Steve out of a jam. Christie fully disappeared shortly after everyone came in from the reception never to be seen again. Part of the package included a room for the groom and groomsmen to get ready in. The venue removed this accommodation (without removing cost). We were forced to find an Air BNB to get ready in prior to arriving to the venue. Guests were not properly directed and were left to wander into the ceremony aimlessly. Vendors were denied water in violation of the Geneva Convention. The venue repeatedly told the DJ to turn down the music which was well within noise ordinance, lying about people who were asking for it to be turned down. The husband and bride were never asked nor informed about this issue. The DJ ended up coordinating a fair amount of the events himself and was the only reason this wedding didn't turn into a riot. Steve was no where to be found the entire time (most likely counting out the $43,000 he was paid for this event.) We did catch his scowling at us as we packed everything up through the window as if we had done something wrong. All of this would have been forgivable had the cows that were promised been present for the photos and ceremony. P.S. if someone in your bridal is pregnant and asks for crackers while getting ready make sure you pay extra for that otherwise they'll give you an attitude about it when they say no.

THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY'S HEALTH…read moreAND WELL-BEING. Please read my entire review to see how this place really is. Horseback riding at this stable was the biggest nightmare I have ever experienced The beginning of the ride didn't show how bad the events would turn. For the first 40 minutes of the ride we had a great time until the guide decided to rope off my horse. Her dangerous behavior led to my left knee injury and me almost falling off the horse I rode, who was a 27 year old horse and very well behaved. The horse was very easy to ride and caused no problems to me as a rider. I indicated in a form that that I am an advanced equestrian and I've been around horses my whole life and I'm very comfortable riding horses both in the saddle and all around horses/stables. I got injured in a ride trail because of the guide's lack of imagination. She crushed my knee with her horse's weight twice as she approached me without getting off her horse and her horse walked against my left knee. She did that twice in opposite directions until I screamed from pain and that's when she got off her horse to rope my horse off properly. She took control of my horse with a rope and took the snaffle bit out of horses mouth as exemplified by the attached photo. I told the trail guide that I don't feel safe staying so close to her horse as horses kick and you need to keep your horse at least 4 feet behind another horse. This was also told me before our trail ride at the stable, the prison who gave us our helmets after we paid for the experience told us to stay 4 yards away from each other horses. In her response she told me that she knows better and disregarded my complaint about me feeling not safe after my left knee got crushed by the horse she was riding. The guide has also injured the horse I rode because she run him into a tree cutting severely skin on his head. She led my horse way too close to her horse and there was a tree. Her horse went right and because I couldn't control my horse with no snaffle bit she led my horse left and he hit his head against the tree as he was stuck on that rope that the guide held in her hand. I had no control of the horse I was riding as per attached photo with the snaffle bit taken out by the guide. Her horse went right next to a tree and mine went left. Then my horse jumped and kicked as he was hurt by the guide and I almost fell. If it wasn't for my riding experience I would have been right on the ground trampled by the injured horse. At that point I couldn't believe what kind of irresponsible guide this person was, so I I started recording with my cell phone everything that happened next to avoid another injury after my knee got crushed and the horse I rode got injured by the guide. As we arrived at the stable at the end of the hour trail, I politely reported the incident and my injury to the manager when we came back to the stable and the manager called the police calling me and my wife trespassers (sic!), after we paid $240 for 2 hours of trail horseback riding as we scheduled another hour at 4pm as well. The manager tried to scare us to leave. She called the police to report "trespassing" even though we were guests at the Pocono Manor and paid for resort stay and the horse rides in advance, The manager and the guide completely ruined our experience by acting rude, unprofessionally and with no empathy. She did not apologize or even offer ice for my injured knee. She was trying to intimidate us to leave. When the police arrived the manager lied to them and said that I ran her horse into the tree and in the attached photo you can clearly see that the snaffle bit is out so I had no control of the horse after it got roped off. The guide had full control of the horse I rode. This is the rudest and the least professional horseback riding facility I have seen. I grew up around horses and I've seen many stables around the world as I travel a lot and ride horses often. I've never experienced such terrible service and lack of empathy. With an injured knee and not even an apology or offering me some ice the manager decided to kick us out by calling the police and telling the cops that we are trespassing after I paid $240 for 2 hours of riding on easy trail trail and hundreds of dollars for our stay at Pocono Manor that was supposed to be a safe and pleasant experience for my wife and me. The horseback riding facility at the Pocono Manor Ranch, is a place that's dangerous for children and adults and should be avoided at all cost. Unqualified personnel endangers safety and health of the resort visitors as well as the animal welfare of the horses. I will spare you the photos of horse injuries as they are disturbing and traumatizing. Under no circumstances go there if you care about your family health or well-being. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.
