I have always been interested in investigation. I looked into the requirements for getting my PI license and did my own research into the area schools. I checked websites, reviews and did phone interviews. When I had completed my inquiries I chose to go with Eagle Security Solutions in Chesapeake. I live in Va Beach and chose Eagle for a number of reasons. #1. Evening classes. I really did not want to take a weeks' vacation in order to complete this requirement. I was able to integrate this class' schedule into my pre-existing work/life schedule without sacrificing my leave time. #2. Prompt response and follow through. I contacted several schools, several ways over many days and Eagle was friendly and prompt in answering all my questions. I have taken and completed the classes and one school has not gotten back to me yet. #3. The real deal. Although I was a complete novice going into this training I was hopeful that I would learn how to become a good private investigator. This is not a Pay-to-Stay class that will hand you a credential once the charge goes through. This is a comprehensive, detailed and rigorous course. It is an adult learner class for adult learners. There is a great deal that goes along with becoming a PI in the Commonwealth. Erin and Mark are experts in all things DCJS related. They provided instruction on getting an account, logging in, registration, finger printing, all separate from the 60+ hrs or coursework AND field training that they provide. On day one we are told what is expected and then we are off and running. There is reading and lecture and research and reporting. There is also, most importantly, real-life, in the field training and surveillance. No other school in the area offers this amount, variety of or level of In-the-field experience. We are taught by hearing, watching, touching and doing. Mark and Erin do a fantastic job as instructors, leaders and mentors both in the classroom and out in the field. You must be organized and self-driven. No one is going to baby you or remind you when assignments are due. It is a current class for today's climate which means that technology is involved. You should have access to the internet and WIFI. Your smartphone will be your lifeline and there will be apps that you'll have to use throughout the class for communications, surveillance, documentation and tracking. You will have to have space on your phone to download the apps and the data to run them. You will have to be a fairly good multi-tasker and attention to detail will be pivotal. Don't stress because Mark and Erin will be there every step along the way. Mark is highly experienced and multi-disciplined. He is a tough but fair leader. Initially he does appear outwardly intimidating but in reality is a patient and understanding leader. It seems the goal of ESS is to prepare us for what lies ahead in this field and to provide a quality product. I don't even know where to begin.. The Eagle Security Solutions Academy has to be the best academy I have ever attended. I have been in Law enforcement for years and retired I have been in security for even longer and I was seeking something bigger and more. With that said I have attended The police academy an academy for certain security divisions and Mark Dionne and his Crew are so professional, personable and a great company and team all around. I recently took the 02E Private Investigator's course here at ESS. The owner, Mark, is a veteran of the U.S. Army and is extremely knowledgeable about not just private investigations, but also various other DCJS-related fields, and the security field as a whole. The class was primarily taught by Mark and T.J., who is also well-versed in private investigations and bail enforcement. They were eager to help and answer any question the class asked, and continue to provide advice and help even now after the class has ended. They actually care, and Mark even worked with me on forming a payment plan. He was more than reasonable. The class itself involved both the normal in-class studies, as well as actual practical tests in the field which give the students experience in surveillance; a key component of private investigations. This is a class component that I have not seen offered anywhere else, and by the end of the class you should have an understanding of what to do, and what not to do. They strive to make sure that you are off to a good start on your path to becoming a private investigator, and I am confident that they handle their other classes just as well. I recently attended the private investigator course at ESS as one of my co-workers suggested that it would improve my critical thinking skills and analysis techniques. I was not lead astray, as ESS is a very professional security business mostly notably concerning the thoroughness of their training and actual application of what the student has learned. Although the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services does not mandate actual real-world exercises, Eagle Security Solutions has implemented it into the course requirements. This not only improves the students understanding of what it is like to actually conduct PI objectives/cases, but it shows the student what they may actually be doing in the PI field. Mark and Erin are great hosts and are a wealth of knowledge. One can clearly get a sense of their decade long experience, and their understanding of the material, security community, and the field of private security. I took both the Private Investigator Entry Level (02E) and the Concealed Carry course from Eagle Security Solutions. I found the instructors to be both engaging and sincere in wanting the students to learn and become qualified. They made both courses fun, entertaining and above all very informative. As with any course the other students can add to a learning experience, especially if they have come from diverse backgrounds. I would highly recommend these two courses to anyone considering them. The practical surveillance provided in the Private Investigator course is hard to come by in other courses so be sure to consider this when looking at other training academies. I highly recommend the entry level PI course I just finished at ESS. The instructors go above and beyond to make sure you get real world experience so you're prepared when you get out into the field. It's a pretty intense class bookwork wise but getting out and doing mock surveillance was awesome. I truly appreciate that both instructors were real and down to earth, just facts, no fluff. I was lucky enough to be in a group full of GREAT people that worked well together. Being female, I was hesitant to sign up because I assumed the course was geared mainly for guys but I have to say, not one time did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Mark Dionne made our PPS and PI classes fun! Our off-site practical exercises in the Hampton Roads area were excellent! We put into practice everything we were learning, including our motorcade tactics, our diamond and other PPS formations, and our PI static, mobile and foot operations. I felt well prepared for the DCJS written and range exams. Our teamwork amongst all of our fellow students made for a super educational experience. I learned a great deal from each of our PowerPoint book reports and other assignments as we reviewed these together. I plan to take all my DCJS renewal courses here.
