Strings Attached specializes in luthier services, repairs, set-ups, etc. They definitely work on acoustic instruments, but I took my electric Fender Mustang bass in to have some wires soldered, the truss rod in the neck adjusted, as well as general cleaning, set-up and replacing the strings. The 2nd lesson he was 13 mins to late & taught him for only 14 mins & we were charged for a 1/2 hr lesson! We will not be back! I feel like I should be reimbursed for the last lesson! As my daughter and I chatted, Jeanmarie noted from our conversation that we had recently moved and welcomed us to South Carolina and to Columbia. She's easy to talk to and so affable . And her knowledge of instruments and music is astounding. She answered the thousand questions that I had about the city and services and restaurants and my neighborhood. My daughter and I felt as though we were chatting with a long-time friend. So impressed with Star Music and JeanMarie, we went back to purchase a guitar for my husband for his 50th birthday. I'm embarrassed that I don't recall the name of the salesman who assisted us, but JeanMarie saw us and remembered our names, made sure that all was going well . And we ended up going back AGAIN for a ukulele!! Our family cannot more highly recommend Star Music. I dropped several bass clarinets off to Star on December 5th, 2025. At the time, the tech was not…read moreavailable, and I was not quoted a price or a timeframe, but left them there knowing it would be a while before I got the instruments. On December 12th, I called Star and asked for an update, and I was told the tech would start on it in January as they have a large school instrument backlog and was quoted a price. On January 12th, I called and asked for an update and they told me it would be 2 weeks, as they still have a large school instrument backlog. Today, January 26th, two weeks later, I called twice. At 1pm when I called, they said they had no info and would call the tech for me and call me back. At 5:14pm, I called again as they had not returned my call, and they said it would be another two weeks before they would even start on my instrument, still citing a large backlog, saying that there were 10 instruments in front of mine. At this point it has been too long, and I am ready to pick up my instrument and take it somewhere else, so I offer to head down there before they close, only to be told I can't pick it up today, because my instruments are at their shop. So I offer to just drive over to their shop instead to save them the trip, and they say that I cannot go to their shop, without providing a reason why. I would not recommend that anyone go to star music to get their own personal instruments repaired, they clearly do not have the staffing nor the organizational skills to handle their business, and they get defensive and rude when you call them out for poor business practices. I simply do not trust a business that has a backlog of school instruments after the school year is a month in. They either need to hire more people, or stop accepting such a high volume of repair work, it is simply unacceptable that a customer should have to wait almost two months with no proactive communication from Star. I've tried multiple technicians in the area and have found that only Pecknel music in Greeneville is capable of delivering timely, quality work with an accurate upfront quoted price. I have never had any of my instruments take longer than two weeks at Pecknel. I hope not to have to deal with Star Music ever again

Her wealth of knowledge on cellos is unbelievable. At our initial visit I would say we spent about 2 hours with her, she let my daughter try multiple cellos in our price range. She also let her try different strings and bows to show the difference those changes make. She was super patient and there was 0 pressure to buy. It is truly special to come to their showroom and try the wonderful selection of Steinways as well as their other pianos and keyboards. I purchased two pianos from them both of which were very fairly priced and excellent instruments. They are truly knowledgeable about pianos and keyboards technically and were willing and able to give me excellent advice. They followed up the sale exceptionally well for me. Many months after buying my keyboard from them, I needed the keyboard to be revoiced for a different location to balance the tone and they gladly did it for me two times for free.
