Amazing service and great food!! Smaller area but happy atmosphere! Food was very delicious with hand cut fries and lots of handmade food. It was cash only though. Very family friendly and my family enjoyed it. When you think of hole in the wall you should think of this place!!

You really need to stop eating at Arby's. They may have the meats but these guys have the Wop Chop. The Wop Chop is a really unique twist on a pork sandwich. The chop is tenderized and deep fried to a golden crisp. The chop is then placed on a simple but tasty bun with sliced onions and a couple pickle slices. Pair the burger with a can of local IPA from Draught Works based in Missoula. The IPA has a crisp bite with a smooth finish. Really good job, guys. The Wop Chop comes without cheese. Trust me, you don't need any. Add some mayo with their horseradish sauce the result will be a super tasty sandwich that isn't greasy nor masked by the cheese. Let those flavours sing! Skip the homemade fries. They are crispy and definitely a solid choice. Instead, get the Jo-Jos fries. Essentially, homemade potato wedges served with a side of sour cream. Give this small tavern your cash. They have earned it. The food is solid.

I first heard about this place years ago from the Man VS Food episode when he went to Butte. Since then I made it a point to get a Whop Chop whenever I go through Butte. Before the show I never even heard of a whop chop. Since my first one, I have been hooked. The combo of pork, onion, pickles and mustard work perfectly together. The Freeway Tavern is a dive bar, no question about it, and the service can be a little rough. It is worth a visit for the whop chop. I have never had anything else there but that. Their location is right off the highway, so it is easy to get to and then back on I90. Worth a visit for the whop chop for sure.

Divey. Plenty of parking. Had to try the iconic "Wop Chop". A deep fried pork chop about an inch thick and covered in batter. Some reviewers claimed that it wasn't as good as it used to be. Well it's the first time I've been, and it was awesome! Perfectly cooked and juicy

It's little bar restaurant with lots of locals famous for the wop chop sandwich. It was really unique and good plus I had the breaded mushrooms which were also good. It's a pork loin sandwich which Butte is famous for. It's worth trying

We had wop-chops to go. They were great. The pork chop was thick and cooked perfectly. A perfect and filling sandwich to eat on the road.

Great service and an awesome chop. They call it a whop, chop. Lots of breading, but tasty. Kind of cool to be able to eat at the bar.

I have had the pork chop sandwiches at other Butte, Montana locations, but it never worked out to try the original until now. I was SO excited!! This location is in the Uptown area. Very convenient for us, as we were only staying a couple blocks away. There is an exterior order/pickup window, and very limited stool/counter sitting inside. (About 10 stools, I think.) I really wanted the full experience, so we went inside and took a seat. There were only two other customers sitting at the counter. The gentleman inside grabbed an order pad and a pen and walked up to us. We said hi. He said hi. We waited for him to adk for our order, but he just kept doodling, so we finally told him what we wanted: two pork chop sandwiches, one order of fries, and one large milkshake. A few minutes later he returned with two sandwiches and sort of tossed them at us. About 4-5 minutes later, he tossed a paper bag of fries in our direction. Then he stood in front of us, with his back to us, and made a milkshake for a customer that came in after us. Then he mixed up ranch dressing and started filling cups with the dressing. Also with his back to us. (We sat directly in front of the milkshake machine.) He did not acknowledge us again. We did not receive our milkshake. When we got up to leave, I thought he might turn around and give us our bill, but he continued to ignore us. Would not even turn around. So I walked down the counter to where the cash register was located, thinking he might come and take our money then. Nope. He would not even turn around. There was a guy standing just to the side of us on the other side of the counter. He was cooking the food. He sort of ignored us for a couple of minutes as well, but he was really busy, so I understood why he didn't have time for us. He finally did ask us what we had, and I told him "two pork chop sandwiches and one order of fries. And a large milkshake, but we never got that." He replied, "Ok. $15.75" and that was it. No surprise, apology, explanation, nothing. Sort of seemed like he was used to it. I regret it now, but I gave him a $20 and walked out. That was too much of a tip for what was possibly the rudest, worst service we have ever received. I will never go back to this place. It was incredibly disappointing. The best pork chop sandwich is just down the road at Freeways Tavern. I will be going there for my pork sandwich fix from now on. Oh.... I better talk about the food. The service was so bad, I forgot. The breaded pork patty is very thin. But it is tender and good. The sandwich itself was decent size. It came with mustard, onion, pickle, lettuce, and tomato - as a pork chop sandwich should. The fries were crispy. Everything was very hot. There are better pork chop sandwiches in Butte. But this is the original, so every other one is a copy of this one. Too bad the horrible, rude service will keep us away.

While this restaurant came highly recommended by everyone we asked, I hesitated at first because it wasn't a historic building. It seems most if not all historical restaurants are long gone. Ultimately, we decided to give it a try--and I am so glad we did! We shared the the shepherd's pie and bread pudding for dessert. We hesitated at first with the shepherds pie as it was not the typical recipe, this was made with lamb and topped with colcannon potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised when the kitchen thoughtfully split our plate for us. Because our friends weren't familiar with those potatoes, they settled on the fish instead, ordering the 2-piece and 3-piece cod dinners. They thought the fish was fantastic and the lamb shepherd's pie was absolutely delicious. The bread pudding was excellent too. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and we highly recommend stopping in!
