I got the pastrami and swiss. They put a burger Patty under the pastrami. Easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. The bun was fresh, the vegetables were fresh and the meat was tasty. Their fries are amazing as well. read more

Ok the weird thing about this drive through is that the window and order station are on the right side of your car. It's like it was designed by a British man who didn't know where he was. Burger was damn solid, though. Exactly that greasy and tasty sandwich that you want from a drive through. Fries were fine, big serving was given. The Royce family moved to Butte in the early 70's to build and operate what was then Bud's Arctic Circle. Bud and Donna Royce ran the Arctic circle for many, many years. Now in the hands of son, Dan, and I do believe daughter, Nancy, the name was changed to Royce's to remove themselves from the Arctic Circle chain. Having grown up in Butte and hanging around with Dan in the teenage years, it's nice to visit the restaurant and still get quality food. If you are looking for a local family owned burger place, then bypass McDonald's for this long time Butte Favorite. Along with burgers, they also serve chicken and fish sandwiches. The fries are always hot and plentiful, and the Fry Sauce can't be beat. The milkshakes are real and come in a variety of flavors. read more

Overall not that impressed with Royses. Seems like the locals love it because there is always a huge line in the drive thru. I got a cheeseburger with fries and a fudge shake. Burger was really bland and honestly I didn't even finish it which is a record for me. The other reviewers who mentioned a weird color of meat were on the money. The fries were not very good and had no salt. I almost finished those, but didn't which is also a first. They just were like eating nothing great which idk how you do that with fries. Milkshake was not bad. I will not be back. Service was friendly and food was quick but I can't in my right mind give any better of a review for a place I can't even finish my favorite meal. read more

I got a recommendation for Royse's from the hotel desk clerk for a place to get a good shake. There was a long line of locals. I generally consider that a good sign. I ordered a blackberry shake. I think it had blackberries in it by the appearance but I had a hard time tasting them. The ice cream tasted generic. I agree with another poster I read about this place. Royse's has a small town "old school" McDonald's kind of feel. It's a nice place but needs an update for sure. It's got a drive through that brings cars through the wrong way. You have to reach across the passenger side of your car to collect your food. The service was very good. The folks working were very sweet and bring the food out to you. I had a burger that very seriously resembles the McDonald's Big Mac. It was good. Does have a slightly different taste from McDonald's. I also tried one of their shakes. Pretty basic but good. If I lived in Butte I would come back to this place. read more

Royse's has been in Butte for a while, but it used to be an Arctic Freeze. They're well-known for their milkshakes, which are super-thick and best eaten with a spoon (kind of like a Blizzard). Royse's offers a long list of milkshake flavors, and I'm sure that everyone has his or her favorite. My favorite -- hands-down -- is huckleberry. If they don't have huckleberry (which is seasonal), I like pineapple. I prefer the flavors that most closely resemble the "natural" product (for example, the banana shake has real bananas in it, while the cherry is just flavored with a cherry syrup). The milkshakes are made from a high-quality soft-serve ice cream with flavorings, candy, cookies, or fruit added. Each shake it topped with one perfectly round and tasty vanilla wafer. The menu is pretty diverse, but it's all fast food. You can get burgers, fries, fried fish, fried chicken products, and even a taco salad (I've never had the salad, but judging from what other patrons order, it seems to be popular). The BEST part of the food is the fry sauce. They offer fry sauce along with ketchup for the fries, and many of the burgers have fry sauce on them, too. The workers at Royse's are super nice and the service is excellent. After you place your order and pay, you sit down and they bring your food to you. It's clean and cheerful inside. The only down-side is that the food is pretty expensive for fast food. If two people dine there and get a burger combo with shakes, the bill is generally around 20$. Because of the cost, I don't eat there very often, but perhaps that's a good thing since the food is high in calories :-) read more

Hoping for the local burger joint. This wasn't it. Food okay, but nothing special. Burger patties appear preformed at a packing plant and kind of dry and not all that tasty. Fish sandwich from frozen. Fries appear to be from frozen too. Fry sauce good, not great. Nothing special here. Didn't try the shakes (was near zero degrees outside). Place is clean, so that's a plus. First time in Butte. Hopefully, we can find a truly local, juicy, tasty burger spot next visit. read more

Yummy little hole in the wall. The employees were very nice. The burgers we got were juicy. It's a little old school building and you would thing it was running down, but nope! It was delish! Hamburgers were tasty, but very small for the price. My husband and 15 yr old son both got a "half pound" cheese burger, which was just a double, but there really is no way the patties are quarter pounders. Both left hungry. IF I COULD GIVE ONE STAR. I WOULD!!!!!! This place is ridiculous! We're from out of town passing through to grab a bite. we roll up to order and immediately the lady over the intercom starts to be rude. but whatever, everyone has bad days, unless it's her. she has bad days everyday. So! the menu on the drive through doesn't describe what's in the burgers, just the item name.. so i politely ask EXACTLY, AND I QUOTE- "What comes on your burgers?" a long pause comes about, she has a coworker reply in a condescending tone "uhhhh we cook it on a spatula".. so i felt weird and expressed that there's no description of what condiments are on the burgers.. and the lady comes back saying how i phrased the question weird, however it was blatantly obvious that she understood what i was inquiring in the first place but felt the need to be passive aggressive... to what? pass her time?? she blamed me. so i ordered and realized i didn't trust the establishment because any kind that has no respect for customers is outrageous. I work in the industry and would never treat someone the way they did. YOU tell me... "What comes on your burger", how would you reply? what condiments come on it, or how you cook it. I love royces, I haven't been here in a while due to covid. I hope they open the indoor dining soon. I'm giving them four stars, not five because the last two times I've been there I've asked for fry sauce and they forget. I know that's a dumb thing to complain about, but when you ask specifically two times consecutively it starts to tick you off. read more

We love this place for locally-owned fast food. The fries are delicious (always with fry sauce!). The meals are reasonably priced, and the chicken strips are SO MUCH BETTER than any fast food chain. I personally love the Lime Rickey, and their shakes are thick. The interior is bright with big windows, and I appreciate the fresh carnation at every table. Service is reliably good and served with a smile. We've been eating here for five years, and have never had a bad experience. read more

Formerly an Arctic Circle franchise (and still serving some of the regional chain's same kind of food), Royse's sells a different take on your typical fast food hamburger. Many sandwiches are named after Montana cities (I recommend the Butte burger). Royse's is also unique in that it serves a special fry sauce, and it dispenses Mountain Dew alongside Coke products. Shakes are made with real ice cream. Tangy juice drinks are also available. Royse's is a decent alternative to the national chains, and has been owned by the same family for decades. read more

Solid burger and shake. Fries were good but nothing to write home about. Best part was easily the Shake! Service was great and food was quick. Note that if you go with the drive through option the window will be on the passenger side. Unique and kinda annoying but didn't effect the food at all. I'll be going back... They keep the buns in a warmer but it dries them out making them taste stale. I asked to have my bun warmed up a bit in a microwave, instead the cook put the cheeseburger together and threw the whole thing in the microwave! The pickles were hot as well as the dressing which is suppose to be cold and the cheese was melted. He was too lazy to do it the right way as far as I can tell. They were much better as The Arctic Circle! read more
