Always looking for a yummy (and cheap) burger, Husband and I pulled into the drive through line with only two cars ahead of us. The first car got their order and pulled away, the car immediately ahead of us pulled forward to the second window, and we pulled up to the first window. No one took our order. The small walk up/drive up style establishment had 5 to 8 teenage girls working. I kept waiting for one of them to open the window to take our order. One of the girls kept looking at us, but never opened the window. Even when no one was at the walk up window, still they didn't take our order. I suppose I should have knocked on the window...? Looking back at it, it makes sense that one window is the ordering window and the second window is the pick up window. Eventually the car in front of us got their order and drove off. Still no one had taken our order but when the car behind me honked (presumably at me), I drove forward to the next window. Immediately the first window and the car behind us placed their order. Looking back at it, it makes sense that one window is the ordering window and the second window is the pick up window. Eventually a girl opened the window we had pulled up to, and asked if we had placed our order. I tries not to sound too irritated when I told her that no one had even spoken to us until her. We placed our order for two burgers and two fries. We were there over 35 minutes from when we drove up to when we finally got our food. The burgers were okay, the order of fries was small. Really disappointing first impression. I'm not sure how we fell through the cracks like that. We probably won't go there again. If we ever do go back, we'll use the walk up window. read more

We wanted something other than national chain fast food while passing through town, and Bonanza popped up on Yelp as a worthwhile choice. The prices were great, the burgers were delicious and the service was pretty good. We got some lolly rings to go, and we were worried they would be soft by the time we finished lunch, but they were still nicely frozen still when we were ready to bust them out. They have a huge menu, which may be why things were a little slow to come out, but at a better quality than some average chain, so that's not too bad. read more

We tried to go to another restaurant for dinner, but because it was 8:30pm, a lot of restaurants in butte were closing. Thankfully, Bonanza Freeze is open late! There were quite a few people in line and the parking lot was full. We found out you can order online, but we were in line already and just stuck it out. They have a very large menu and I kind of wish it was more consolidated and easier to read, but I guess you can't really go wrong with burgers and shakes from here. I ordered the fried mushrooms, a cheeseburger and a cherry shake. Everything was delicious. It's fast food, so I wasn't expecting much. The burger isn't like the best burger I ever had, but it's like $5 and decent. The cherry shake was perfection. And the mushrooms were salty, crisp and hot. Good food and cheap prices. Slow service at the pick-up window but decent shakes and malts overall. The prices are very fair considering inflation and the portion they give you. So happy they have a kid's portion on almost everything since that's my go-to when I want to trick myself into thinking I'm being healthy. Asked for an orange malt which didn't taste of orange, but the overall flavor was pretty good. Considering you're in Butte where your only other option is a Dairy Queen, I highly recommend this place if you want something sweet. read more

Basic food. Not GF friendly. Had to get a burger without the bun. Prices were decent. No indoor seating. A few picnic tables outside up against the building. It seems like most people go there for the treats. We tried to order some dessert but didn't realize they were closing early on July 3rd so we missed out. No bathroom. You have to walk down the road to Safeway. read more

Great small town burger shack with the usual things you'd expect and more. Burgers, fish and chips, tater gems, tons of different forms of ice creams, pizza egg rolls, mini tacos?, and a ton of other off the wall things. I went with a burger that was called something like a "muca burger" which had BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheese. I got the sour cream and chive fries with it as well. My wife had a chicken salad. It took a while to get our food ordered, but it was worth it. The sour cream fries were the highlight and were great dipped in ranch. The burger was pretty good. My wife thought her salad was average. I'd go back just for the sour cream fries and to try some other things on the menu. read more

I LOVE this place! The cheeseburgers, bosco sticks, and of course the Blue Goo Ice cream are the best! The staff are a bit younger and the lines can get a little long, but they are so friendly and the food is worth the wait! If you're only getting ice cream, I recommend going to the walk-up window so you don't have to wait long! read more

The cyclone is great! They mix the bits throughout the whole ice cream. Drive-in part is slow moving so better to step up to window. I haven't tried many things in the menu being we were just passing through but we'll worth a stop for ice cream. My husband got the Butterscotch malted and he said it was great too. read more

Stopped here on our way through Montana and we felt like Burger and Fries. This place delivered! Good olde fashioned joint! My double cheeseburger was great and the beef tasted high quality. Fries and Onion rings were hot and just right. Loved the shake as well. John our "server" at the window was wonderful, welcoming, and a good listener to our order. We left full and happy. Go into town and sit down at this blast from the past burger joint. Or get it to go at the walk up window or busy drive thru (the mark of a great mom and pop place). Good food, great service. Lots of unique shake flavors to you back to when you were a kid. read more

Always fun to stop at Bonanza Freeze when we are in Butte! They always have a flavor of the day ice cream. The best ice cream i ever had was cinnamon! I hope to find it there another day! I'll talk about the food in a minute. I want to first talk about the young folks who work here. As my family and I were eating, I saw two young kids (maybe 7 years old?) walk up and order two kids meals and begin to pay with change -- they were struggling to count out the change but it was obvious they were gonna be short and so they gave it to the staff working to count. I figured the kids would only be a few bucks short so I ran over there to offer to pay the difference but by the time I got there to talk with a staff, I could see the young folks pulling out their personal money to pool together the remaining few dollars needed. This place has some quality young folks working there. They were friendly when taking me and my family's orders but what they did later was really impressive to me. (I'm fairly certain that would not have happened in most of the restaurants back home in Portland ‍) Now, onto the food. All the food items we got were great. There wasn't anything incredibly unique about the food (except the smiley face French fries that came with the kids meal) but they all tasted great! My kids all loved what they got and my wife and I both enjoyed our food as well!! read more

Hey Pa, I sure worked hard clearing the back forty this morning, how about lunch. Well son, you did a fine job today so we're going for a burger and shake. Right on Pa, you're the best! This place beats any chain fast food ever. I had a regular burger and black raspberry shake and the Mrs. had a regular burger and chocolate malt. Everything was excellent including the service. I didn't get their names but the two young ladies were fast, friendly, cautious, and efficient. I'll be stopping here anytime I'm in Butte. Hey pa, after the burgers can we go fishing? Sure son. My husband and I decided to try Bonanza Freeze since we were staying in Butte for the night. So glad we stopped here, looks like the local spot to get burgers. The fries were amazing and burgers were really really good. We had the chocolate malt which was ok, I'm not a fan of malts so don't take my word for it. read more

This is a nice little Ice Cream and Burger place in Butte, and reasonably close to the freeway. The staff here was really nice, and my family was able to get something tasty during our road trip to Yellowstone. I've had better milkshakes (read my review of the Soda Fountain in Ennis, MT) but the prices were good and the kids enjoyed them, so that's a winner in my book. Stop and get yourself something tasty. You deserve it! read more
