I was living life on the edge with one brake for a while and a few days ago my handlebars had gotten loose on my ride home as well. What a crazy ride back home lol Called this place at about noon when they opened and a man answered and gave me a quote on what I thought were the repairs needed. I got there promptly after our phone call and I saw they were already busy taking care of customers. They were quick and it was my turn for a bike repair. He took a look and pulled my bike on up. Told me what I really needed and pricing. Got me in an out for half of the original quote which wasn't much in the first place. He also checked other parts of my bike and tire pressure. They were here to help and running a great business. I will be back. They made my day and I'm back on the trails again! read more

They sold me a very good Breezer commuting bike, and they reconditioned an old Peugeot road bike that has sentimental value for me and many miles left on it. It's spring which means it was time for me to get my new-to-me road bike tuned up. Actually not only did it need a tune-up..I just needed to know how to best utilize this new addition to my excercise regiment. I purchased the road bike via Facebook last year and just started riding. However it didn't take me long to realize that adult cycling is a different ball game from riding a bike as a child. This is where Freecycle comes in!! Freecycle is an awesome place where kids can learn valuable skills on tuning up, repairing and putting together a bike. For consumers, Freecycle sells new and used bikes...they also perform bicycle repairs and tune-up. What really stood out for me was the amazing customer service. Matt was amazing and informative and nice...but the fact that he only suggested fixing what needed to be fixed versus selling me a package of services I didn't need. He also explained when I would need to return the bike to the bike shop and why. This made the whole ' keeping my bike in hebest shape possible' a whole lot less intimidating and lot less pricey!! read more

I brought in a bike tire thinking I needed a tube replaced and asked them to do it. Upon further inspection it was just the core of the valve that needed to be replaced. They replaced it for free in 5 minutes and refused to take any money. I'll definitely be returning for any repairs needed in the future. Thank you! read more

This place saved my ass this summer. I knew every bike shop in town was super booked as bicycling has really picked up since Covid hit. I managed to get the vintage bike of my dreams and did a lot of work on it (thanks YouTube!), but I couldn't seem to get the chain back on after replacing both tubes and tires. I was super stuck. I called Freewheelin, and they took pity on me and told me to bring it over even though they were swamped. It's embarrassing why I was having so much trouble so I won't repeat it here, but Quinn fixed it in 3 minutes flat and made some other adjustments. I paid their minimal repair fee and then donated $50 to this very worthy shop. I will be back. What a great addition to the community. read more

What I needed done: inner tube Pros: -Jamey helped me get that tire done so fast that I was out before the store closed. -he took out the glass shards out of my tire without fear. -he gave me info about the store & other restaurant recommendations. I popped in on a random morning without calling first, which was ok and didn't really cause me to wait very long. The guy had me bring my bike in after we talked, and he was able to help get my wheel back in place really quickly and helped me learn what I can do next time it happens. He also lubed and tuned my brake line, and it only took about 20 minutes. He tested it before we paid, and it was only $10. I love that they're community oriented and the reviews here helped me determine that I wanted to give them my business. He also helped my mom order some storage hooks for her bike. They have lots of accessory options too, so I would come back to purchase those when I want. Thanks y'all! read more

Are you a cyclist? Do you know one? More importantly, do you know a kid who loves to bike or take apart toasters? Then Freewheelin is probably the right place for you. This non-profit has many components: an Earn-a-Bike program for neighborhood youth to learn about bike mechanics and go through a series of lessons to earn a bike. Talented volunteers and staff assist the youth by going through a curriculum which teaches them all about the mechanics of the bike, components, and how to take care of a bike. You can also donate your old bike and it will get refurbished and sold to help further the mission of Freewheelin. A retail component at the front of the store offers merchandise, repairs, and service. What's best about Freewheelin is that its all volunteer and that the folks who work there are so passionate about what they do. If they can't fix it, they know who can, and will do their best to help you out. read more

The wonderful staff are all volunteers. They provide a "Learn and Earn" program for kids age 10-15. Work your way through 5 lessons (at your own pace) with a Freewheelin' mechanic and come out in the end knowing all you need to know about biking safely, and taking care of the bike you earn, along with a new lock, bike bottle, and helmet! Students may start at any time. They also do "Explore Indy Rides" An all ages ride held once a week during the summer starting in May and ending in October! Each week the distances start short and gradually increase over the course of the summer. Rides include anything from riding to the Children's Museum to Eagle Creek to Connor Prairie or just around beautiful downtown! Customer service is fantastic!! Beautiful day for a December ride. I take off work early, rush home, head out to meet friends and realize halfway to destination, too late to turn around, I forgot a water bottle. With no mask I stood at the entrance and asked if they sold water bottles. (No cash - just a cell with credit card in the cell wallet). The person who waited on me did not think they had any, but said hang on while he checked. A few minutes later he returned with a fully cleaned and disinfected slightly used bottle (filled with water), told me to keep it and enjoy the ride. Now that is customer service. I'm not sure how Freewheelin' Community Bikes began popping up on my social media feed, but it did. And every time I took notice and thought to myself, what a cool and decent place. Now that spring is here and it's high time to bust out my bike, I had a perfect reason to load it up and venture down to their shop and check them out first-hand. Since I went in the middle of a week day, the guy said he could replace my inner tubes while I wait! So I grabbed my book and sat down on one of the lovely benches out front. Jamey hooked me up with some new tubes and inflated my tires to the proper level. The parts and labor were inexpensive, so I was delighted to see a prompt on the card reader asking if I wanted to tip. Turns out, all tips are considered donations to the non-profit and tax-deductible. This is a gem of a business, and Indianapolis is incredibly lucky to have these folks. read more

My husband and I stopped in, as we've been to this shop multiple times over the years. We've always had great service, amazing quotes, until today unfortunately. We stopped in to see how long it would take to get the tires checked out and the inner tube. There were 4 people "working" in the shop, 3 of them sitting around in the back. We got a quote of over a week to look at the tire, and up to 45 days to check out the chain. Absolutely not! Any other time we've gone in they check it within about 30 minutes. Now it takes a week?! I don't know if they're under new management or something, but this was truly disheartening and disappointing. We will be taking our bikes somewhere else... read more
