Amazing downtown bike shop. The location has changed! It's now by mass Ave near North Mass Boulder. I got my bike tuned up for the summer recently here. It needed a lot of work and I got it all done at a very fair price. The person doing the work took care to discuss all the options with me so I could get the best value for my money. I really appreciate that. Some bike shops don't go that extra mile. Finally the got all the repairs done quick. It took only a day. However, I did have to schedule it a couple weeks in advanced. Liam tuned up and replaced a few parts on my 13 year old bike. It rides like a dream now! I can't believe how smooth and silent it is. The customer service from Liam and Nathan were wonderful. I decided (along with the rest of the world) to pull out my bicycle during Quarantine 2020. I thought it may need a tune up and potentially a new wheel. I took it to BGI for a drop off, knowing I may have to wait a while to get it back. No customers were allowed inside due to Covid, so they collected the bike and my information right outside of the door. I let them know I was dropping it off for a tune up and needed the tires assessed. To my surprise, they called me later that afternoon letting me know my bike was ready. They could have easily told me there was something more significant to be adjusted, especially since I mentioned a possible tune up, but confirmed they tested everything and simply filled my tires. I appreciated the quick turnaround and honesty when I asked for a service I did not need. I went back again when I needed a new pedal attached and they took care of it on the spot! Stopped by to get a back rack. Was greeted by a younger gentlemen. He appeared to not want to assist us. We asked if they had any in stock. His physical reply and voice came across it was a bothersome. He checked. Claimed they had none. We asked for a workaround to our situation since it takes a unique rack. Again, he made us feel like we were wasting his time. He claimed Greenwood had the rack. Drove to Greenwood BGI. Staff was the exact opposite. Friendly, helpful and nice. No, they didn't have the part as downtown store claimed. Will not return to the downtown location. This is second time we have had awful customer service. read more

This is my go-to place for basic bicycle service. It's just so convenient for someone who rides their bike to work downtown. You drop it off in the morning and it's ready for you to ride home that day. However, be aware that they only provide basic maintenance services there. If they need a special part, they will either send your bike to their north store or order it (so you won't be able to get it back that day). Sean is a magician and can diagnose and fix just about anything. As far as the store goes, it's not really the location you visit for buying bikes, clothing, shoes, etc. You really need to trek (no pun intended) out to the north or south store for that. The stock here is primarily for bike commuters (tubes, pumps, lights, bags, etc.) in a pinch. The bicycles that do have on-site are for rentals only. read more

I kind of assumed this winter would last forever, and I would have plenty of time to take my bike in for service before the weather warmed up. Imagine my surprise when we finally had a sunny and warm Saturday. There I was.. unprepared but wanting to get out, afraid it might be weeks before I had another opportunity. BGI Downtown to the rescue with their Saturday hours. Even though their service department wasn't open, the simple task of replacing a seat was something that was quick and painless. A great bike shop. The staff mechanics are always really friendly and helpful. The products here are good quality and are generally built to last. One thing I especially like is the ability to make an appointment for the work. This beats my experience elsewhere of dropping off my bike and coming back two days later to find it still waiting in line. I notice they also rent bikes and look forward to taking advantage when I have friends visiting. After all, it is so much fun to visit our downtown on a bicycle. read more

Big changes are on the horizon, and sometimes I need my hand held (keyword: sometimes. I submit to you to be the judge of when & where). Setting up for a life change of going from car-only, with spotty walking to full time bike-only is a massive change. Thus, hold my hand BGI? Looking back on the process I went through in buying a new car 7 years ago... my experience so far at BGI is entirely different (granted, I'm older & far less reckless). I have an idea of what I want, but I have no clue which way to go for it. I stopped by the shop in the Indy Bikehub post run at The Y. A note on this design and set up: this building was built out in the East Wing of City Market. Once a vacuous mustard-stained, asbestos riddled abandoned space, now is a new facility with a full gym, full bike lockers & lockers large enough for bike commuters to have a closet away from home. BGI is the bike maintenance hub, bike accessories, bike rentals! and, for my visit, bike consultation. With March here, BGI will be holding a pretty massive sale on new bikes. They'll be offering free 12 month financing on new bikes. The BGI staff nailed all my naive questions with thorough, heart-felt answers and recommendations. Although I haven't purchased the bike yet (their main inventory is at their North location to do more consultation & test rides). They'll also ship your bike back downtown if you don't want to ride it home day of purchase. On the bike rentals at this location... they have a few different options on what they rent out... it's $85 for a week. What's terrific about this is that your rental fees go directly toward your purchase of a new bike. Thus, if you want to test out a comparable bike before you buy, here you go. Took my bike in for check up because I noticed it wasn't riding well. Within a few seconds of arriving at the garage, the problems were identified and I was told I need a tune up which ended up costing me $69. I was told my bike would be ready in two weeks for pick up. When it was ready I received a phone call to inform me that I can come pick it up. When I got there, I asked the representative how long I had to return my bike if it still wasn't riding well, and he told me a week. I returned my bike five days later as I felt it still wasn't riding as well as I would prefer. I dropped it off in the morning, and later in the afternoon I got a call that my bike was ready. I was told the bottom bracket was a bit loose, but pretty close for adjustment and they tightened it a bit more. I was asked to ride my bike before taking it home to ensure it felt right. Since I was just learning to ride a bike, I told the representative whose name was Sean that and he was very patient and supportive. He took the time to encourage me and teach me things about my bike that I didn't know. He also gave me his business card to call him if I ever have any question. It was a wonderful experience for me. Having read all the 5 star reviews and how they fix people's bikes up, squeeze them in and have them out the door didn't match my experience. I came in and asked about a tune up and they said it be another 2 weeks on a Friday before they could work on my bike? And if that was convenient for me? I don't know maybe they don't want my business but why do other people get same day service and not me? So I don't look like a professional biker means they won't give me service? I have been thoroughly pleased with my trips to BGI. They continue to surprise and impress me with how well dispersed their bicycle knowledge is among the company and also how excellent every employee I've encountered had been with customer service. I was picking up my bike from their shop after it had been worked on and wanted both to look at bike helmets and to see if someone could help me setup my 15+ year old car mounted bike rack properly. I received an informative bike helmet tour and then a manager of the store with thirty years experience in the industry gave me possibly the most thorough tutorials one could ask for on my bike rack with lots of additional bike knowledge thrown in. He then informed me that the labor on my bike is guaranteed (forgot the length of time) and that they correct any problems customers may encounter. I haven't had any problems but it is great to know that they stand by their work and that there are measures in place for mistakes. read more

Friend was in town and we were stoked to ride all over indy on a beautiful Friday night, 20 minutes into our ride I blew out my tire, the tire had a puncture hole in it and was super bummed I wouldnt be able to get a replacement that night or even the weekend. Had ridden by this place numerous times but never went in. Called to see if they were open as it was like 6:30 PM and if they had a tire for my bike, they said "Bring it in, we can change it while you wait!" About 30 minutes later I had two brand new tires and the bike tech did a superb job, wish I could remember his name cause I could tell he really cared about the quality of work he did. Very pleased, will definitely go back. Only one minor downfall is their weekend hours, they are tied to the YMCA so I think they close at 4 on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. read more

They provided exactly what I was looking for. I was in town for a few days and wanted to rent a good road bike for a short ride. I was able to fit in two hours for a ride and found that they had good option available (A Giant TCR Advanced with 105 components. Better than the bike I own) at a good rate ($30 for 2 hours. This rate decreases for longer rent times). They pointed me towards the Monon trail where I could bike more freely, prepped the bike, provided me with a helmet, and at the end of my ride took in the bike no problem, even though I was a few minutes late after my allotted time. I had a great experience with them, and they were additionally all personable guys. If I'm ever around again, I'll definitely rent from them in the future. read more

I used to work at a bike shop as an internet nerd, not a mechanic or anything. But I feel I have a good grasp of what a good bike shop is, which is why I drive a bit out of my way to take my bikes to BGI Downtown. Recently I purchased a used Cannondale M400 and was convinced I needed new wheels (rims) because the bike was bouncing around like a boat on rough water, but the next morning I get a call from BGI and it's just the tires that need to be replaced. Good deal, probably saved me at least a hundred dollars. BGI Downtown also has badass lady mechanics, which is something you don't see at most bike shops. read more

I've been coming here for two years now and have never been let down. They're almost always ready to squeeze you in right there on the spot for simple fixes, which is great. Some of the parts/labor charges can be a little pricey but that is to be expected at a downtown location, especially when the convenience often if not always outweighs going somewhere further away. On the other hand, they do offer 10% discounts for couriers as well as a punch card where if you get enough punches you can save ten bucks on a future purchase. The only thing I haven't done here is buy a new bike, as their selection seems to be quite small. They're more of a repair shop in that regard, I think. read more

I am doing the Hilly Hundred this weekend and I have been neglecting to get a shifter fixed. So, I took it in this morning hoping to get the parts as I assumed they couldn't squeeze in a last minute fix. We recently rented bikes at Bicycle Garage Indy on Market St. after meeting Kat by chance, one of the employees, the night before. Her friendliness, smile, and cute doggie in tow behind her bike, made it a must to rent bikes from her the next day. We were equally delighted with Evan's Mid-Western friendliness when we talked to him. The bikes were Giants and in great shape and perfect location. After a short ride on the Cultural Trail we accessed the Monon Trail at the south entrance on 10th St. and rode to Broad Ripple for lunch and back. It was a beautiful day, the trail was well maintained and marked, with lots to see along the way. We look forward to renting bikes from Kat & Evan again next time we're in Indiana. BGI at the bike hub is superb, I took my road bike into them after breaking a chain and having issues with the rear derailleur. They diagnosed a few different problems in my bike. Some of the issues actually stemmed from improper work I had done previously at a different bike shop located near downtown Indianapolis (I will not name names). The mechanics at BGI are top-notch and could easily work at a pro tour level. They understand bicycle mechanics to the lowest lever and how systems interact and impact one another. They are honest and fair and will only recommend to you work that needs to be done. Above all else they are in-the-know and up-to-date on all the latest service bulletins (as my bike had a bulletin change related to its year that the previous shop missed). I am happy to say I have my beloved carbon road bike back now and it's riding the same as it did the first day I had it thanks to BGI. Safety has to come first everytime. This review is strictly based off my only priority when it comes to my children: SAFETY FIRST. We ordered 2 hybrid bikes, trail-a-bike, and bike trailer to be delivered to our hotel for a 4 hr rental following morning. Noticing before they were handed to us, a replacement part was sent over and fixed to better secure the trail-a bike. My husband was then handed an inner cracked helmet again replaced upon request. Shawn was pleasant and helpful to our needs before our family of 4 headed out. Everything was fine until sheer horror struck. The bar connecting my 2 year old daughter's Burley trailer to my bike began clanging on the ground along the canal. I look back and MY DAUGHTER WAS NO LONGER THERE. Let what I just stated sink in. I jumped off the bike and began running, screaming for help, screaming if anyone had seen my daughter. I feared she was at the bottom of the canal. I soon spotted her safely in the trailer 2 feet from the water's edge several hundred feet back and around a bend. There are simply no words in times like this. You are a parent. Your only job is to protect your children. Today, I could not, because the person/people in charge who guaranteed the condition of our equipment and stated we were good to go forgot to attach both the bike trailer pin and latch the clip to my bike. Safety prechecks and ensuring staff can demonstrate knowledge of all rental equipment should be required. Our family is incredibly fortunate today over details that were clearly overlooked. Both Shawn, owner Scott, among other in-shop employees were sincerely apologetic and reached out to our family, as well as refunding our rental. read more
