This small business has been great for us, we have had our road bikes tune/cleaned and cross bar break handle installation here before and the staff has been very helpful with our basic bike needs ever since (tubes and tire replacements, saddle replacement). Their location is also so convenient near the Monon trail. This has been our go to place for basic bike needs that we can address quickly. As for product options, online still has more choices if you're into DIY or more into serious biking as this store only carry certain brands/products. read more

AWFUL! do not believe them when they say you have tire rot. i absolutely cannot stand them, they have no transparency and will not trust that you know what youre doing. they WILL talk down to you. i stopped by just to see if i could use a took for 5 seconds to tighten a bolt and they tried to charge me $15. i recommend Free Wheelin on 34th and central, they are much more community focused, and dont try to squeeze you for every penny like bike line read more

Employee yelled twice at me because I was going upstairs and did not know it was "Employee's Only" la de da. Mark the area off w/ a plastic chain or a velvet rope God knows that can afford it. An owner did not know what a bike was manufactured from and did not try and find out. I had to ask a north employee. It was carbon fiber btw. Then there's Charlie, an owner. He was elitism at its' finest and very condescending imo. I've been a customer there going back 26 years and this is how I was treated. Absolutely terrible customer service. We stop by today to look for helmets, a saddle, and a new bike bag. Had one of the worst shopping experiences I've ever had. We were looking at the un-boxed helmets on the display, and an older, female employee came over and very rudely started. lecturing us about not opening the boxed helmets. We weren't even looking at the boxed helmets, nor had we even touched one single box. A few minutes later, she came over while we were taking a picture of one of the helmets and told us that we weren't allowed to take pictures of anything in the store because all we wanted to do was look here and go buy online. she grabbed the helmet out of my hand, I nicely told her that she was very rude, and we left the store. And she started yelling bye-bye bye-bye bye-bye. This lady doesn't know me, but I go to great lengths to shop local. When I could easily click a button and order something online and I make an effort to find a locally owned shop to go purchased or order a product from them. The crazy thing is, she's all worried about people buying stuff online and this store sells products online. No one deserves to be treated the way we were. I've had my bike for about seven years and never had it serviced. It started making some odd noises, I thought it was probably time for a service(Obviously I was WAY over due). I called ahead and got the details: no need for an appointment, services are completed on a first come basis, drop-offs are taken on the side of their building and services start at $90. During checkin I was told it would take approximately a week and I would receive a call after it was inspected to let me know if additional items were needed that would increase the price. I declined that step and requested they repair/replace whatever was needed for it to operate correctly. Everyone was very nice and the lady I spoke with was knowledgeable in her responses to my questions/concerns. I dropped my bike off before they closed on a Wednesday and Saturday morning I received a text letting me know it was ready for pickup! My bike rides as smooth as the day I purchased it! Needing to get a tune up along with new tires for my bike, I Yelp'd the Bike Line to see what they offered. Ultimately taking my bike in, I used their side drop off available during the COVID-19 pandemic adjustments outdoors. The staff were super friendly, walked through the tune up options, in addition to pricing for new tires and a chain should I have needed one. It took the promised three to five days for my bike to be good as new! Tuned up, I was able to take my bike out for a spin on the trail nearby just after, and will definitely stop back in next time I'm riding or need any bike servicing! Definitely recommended read more

Great customer service... I have them tune up my bike every year. Only reason it's not a 5 star is I took my bike in to be fixed, flat tires and all. I asked them to make it ready fir the season. I have tubeless tires and they aired them up but they needed sealant. Took the bike home thinking they had done that and they didn't so my first planned ride was canceled. All this could have been solved if they would have just ask if I wanted that done. Moral of the story, be clear with your communication and ask questions because they did not. This will not effect me from returning! They are still my shop! read more

I took my bike in because it was making a strange noise whenever I rode it. They were immediately able to see the issue and fixed it on the spot, but did mention that the bike needed at least a tune up. I decided to go ahead with the tune up since I was already there and my bike did need it. I was told that the tune up would be $90 and the bike would be ready in about 3 days. The next day I received a text stating that my bike was ready to be picked up. Upon pick up, I was told that I owed $121. Confused, I asked for a break down, which included the parts of my bike that needed replaced (they explained why each part needed replacement). I didn't have an issue with the increased price or paying for the replaced parts, however, I do wish I would have been told that if parts had to be replaced there would be an additional fee. I was also told that my bike would need it's rear wheel replaced, but it would be okay to ride without replacing. My bike rode so much smoother after the tune up and parts were replaced! I was very pleased. Bike Line offers great service, expertise, and offers suggestions on what is best for the bike without being pushy. I will continue to take my bike to Bike Line for maintenance and purchase anything I need that is bike related from them. I am lucky to have a great bike shop so close! read more

Not new bike day, but... thanks to the The Bike Line and mechanic Keegan who spent an hour putting in new bearings (much needed) and working through my Trek Domane to diagnose the source of a creak. We had a great experience once again at The Bike Line in Broad Ripple! We had bought a Trek gravel bike with them about 4 years ago and back then had a phenomenal experience. They walked us through all the options and taught us everything I needed to know to start my cycling journey. With the pandemic (and us moving a little north of BR) we didn't come back until recently and, once again, the service didn't disappoint. Our burley cart (bike trailer for the kiddos for those of you sans children) had a blown tire. With the quarantine in full swing, having a functional bike trailer is essential to our sanity. I called Bike Line and confirmed they had a replacement inner tube on hand, and they confirmed they did. I drove up, and saw their social distancing set up. Big table outside, stickers on the ground at least 6' apart, and stickers on the building indicating that they're practicing social distancing. I was surprised so many other patrons were there getting bike parts, bike repairs etc. Staff were super quick, all wearing gloves, and had great attitudes. They have clearly put a lot of thought into how they can stay open amid this crisis while keeping their clients safe. I was able to get what we needed quickly, and safely. Guess my new ebikes were too low brow for them? Man... bike like has serviced my Townie and Cannondale as recent as 2 years ago ... but never again. I walk in today and take a second to get my bearings and am asked if I need any help. I say, "no Im just looking...we just bought new ebikes and Im ready to accessorize". Very quickly I am asked "what kind". (Aventons) ... then its "maam I dont think I have anything in this store that will work for you." I pause...speechless, thinking really? Bells, bottle cages...glasses (which is what I came for).... and in that time she decides I must not get it at all and shows me how bags are rack specific and will only work on specific racks. Never asked what I was looking for.... so I shared, at that point pretty caught off guard by the whole thing, that I dont necessarily know that I'm interested in bags. And she walks away. Found the glasses I was looking for...but at this point I think i'll take my dollars elsewhere. Geesh. Good thing we have other bike shops in town! Went from being excited to buy a bell, a bottle cage and some shades and maybe see what Electra gear they had for my Townie on my day off to being bummed and goin home. All I I was doing was working and for him to say that just didn't make any sense. I was surprised because I haven't had no problem until I got to this store. I bring my bike to Bike Line whener I need repairs because I live near Broad Ripple. Frankly, I'm sorry and surprised that other commenters have apparently had bad experiences here. The staff have always been very friendly, respectul, and transparent with me. They let me know the cost breakdown in advance, and they always solve the problem within the timeline they give (sometimes quicker!). I've never bought anything from here, so I can't comment on the sales team, but I would at least definitely recommend this place on the Service side. read more

When I walked in, the lady demanded I wear a mask even though she and her friend clearly had their masks down but pulled them up over their mouth and nose when I walked in (I could care less if you wear one or not- also, the mask mandate is no longer in place in Marion County) When I told her I didn't have one and she told me she wouldn't help me. That's when I pointed out that neither her or her friend were wearing one when I walked in, to which she replied, "I know her and we're in the bubble" (??!!!!) Unless they live there and never leave the store, they really aren't in a bubble. So in reality, all they're doing is virtue signaling and living a ridiculous double standard. Be consistent. I feel a little funny writing this review, as I've never spent a dime at the Bike Line, thus making me a non-customer. Be that as it may, my experience as a potential customer has necessitated its writing. Being a person who suffers from chronic pain due to previous athletic​ injuries, riding a bike isn't as easy for me as it for others. Ergonomics are important, and ensuring that I got a proper style and fit were essential when selecting a new bicycle. I would only shop at a reputable bike shop, and I only wanted a superior brand. And, since a Trek was my preference, the Bike Line seemed like the best-suited​ dealership to handle my complex needs. Afterall, the Bike Line has been in business since 1979 and exclusively​ deals in Trek Bicycles (and related brands like Electra). ​After a lot of internet research, I had decided on a bicycle model that I thought would suit my needs. Since Bike Line has an online catalogue, I was able to see that they had the model in the shop. Despite telling the salesman (who I later learned was one of the owners) that I wasn't going to make a purchase that day, he spent a great deal of time talking to me. Obviously, he was very knowledgeable - not just about bikes, but also finding a suitable one for a person with limitations. Several days later I returned and had the chance to test ride two bikes. Since the Bike Line abuts the Monon Trail, the customer is able to take an extensive trial ride. In fact, the store will even allow the test rides to continue for several hours. In the end, I did buy a bicycle. Unfortunately, the bike that ultimately was the best fit was a Cannondale, a brand that Bike Line does not carry. As much as I love my bicycle, my purchase experience was not as wonderful as it would have been at the Bike Line. The Bike Line is a great local bicycle shop, and it is owned and staffed by truly stand-up guys. I sure wish I could have done business with them! read more

Stopped in today and planned on leaving my bike as had squeaking noise and understood probably a 3-5 day turnaround for service. Was in shop only a few minutes. Diagnosed chain needed oiling. I thought was something much more serious. Service showed me some things about my specialized ruby plus removed some wires and an old computer holster. New bike much different than my old Miata. We braved the late-season snowstorm today to pick up my husband's birthday bike from The Bike Line. He has stopped in the previous day, so his purchase was waiting and ready for us. While the prices are a little high-but its to be expected for a specialty bike store-the customer service is well worth the extra pennies. SJ sold Nick that bike on eBay and it was broke when it arrived. The Bike Line just did an estimate (for free) and discussed options. I had a very unpleasant experience with The Bike Line and will not be giving them any more of my business. I brought my bike in to address an issue with the rear hydraulic brake and what should have been taken care of in a single visit took multiple trips because the service manager, Keegan, failed to properly determine the root cause of the issue (a leaking brake caliper) and then contaminated the new brake pads on the replacement caliper as well as a new rotor because of improper technique. When I questioned him over the phone why he deviated from the planned work which would have avoided this contamination he got very defensive and impatient with me. When I asked to speak to a manager he very rudely informed me that "I AM the service manager and THIS IS THE END OF THE LINE." Eventually I was able to speak to an owner who was not at all understanding and instead came off as very evasive and passive-aggressive. I strongly recommend going to Grey Goat or BGI for bike service by competent professionals. read more

This is yet another comment, among many I see here, about the general rudeness of the staff. Not going to bore you with details. The manager (?) treated my son and wife very poorly, culminating in them being asked to leave, and when my 12 yo daughter said "sorry about that" the manager said "you should be". I don't know if its the way certain people look, or if the staff is trained to be "aggressive" when customers are perceived to be "lingering" (my son was trying on helmets for about 10 minutes). But it was made clear that this is a "buy now or get out" kind of business. It also appears to be the kind of place that tries to intimidate people. i'm not sure why their customer service model is based on talking down to customers but hey, whatever works for them. What works for me is spending my money elsewhere. Sorry, Bike Line, but you're not that exclusive, and you're not that special. Take a customer service seminar. Be nicer. read more

I was recently recommending places to purchase bicycles to a friend, and it reminded me I needed to write a review for The Bike Line. I did a quick scan through the other reviews, and the following stuck out to me "First of all, if you feel like you need to be humbled, come right in! Bike Line staff is always looking to make you feel like a jackass! .... " I ride nearly 5000 miles a year, and this sentence is EXACTLY how The Bike Line sales staff makes me feel on every visit. I have purchased 3 bicycles, high end wheel sets, and many other items from them, and still they consistently talk down to me. This isn't a short term problem either. I have been shopping on and off at The Bike Line for 27 years. I am not sure why they are so arrogant, nor why I continued to shop there for so long, but I made the switch to Matthews a year ago, and all I can say is the drive is certainly worth the service and attitude. If the drive to the west side is too much I recommend going to BGI, or even Performance Bicycles (hard to recommend Performance because they don't sell Trek which is my brand of choice). As far as their service department, I found it to be amazing. Everything the sales area lacks the service department makes up for. They wont suggest unnecessary repairs, and often times, they will true up a wheel for no charge. They are also extremely fast in getting your bike back to you. BGI constantly runs 2-3 weeks for anything, and The Bike Line gets it back to you in a few days. I would recommend their service department to anyone, but for you own well being steer clear of the sales department. This is pretty easy considering they are in separate buildings. This shop has a great selection considering how small they are, and are very convenient to the Monon. The proximity to the Monon also makes it an excellent place to test drive a new bike. All of these things make it all the more tragic that the culture in the stores (Carmel is the same) is so toxic to customers. read more

My bike is back!!! I got an old bike for Christmas, needless to say it needed some work. I had been to this store before and they know SO much about bikes-like the dude told me things about my bike that made me rethink life. Lol okay I might be a little dramatic but their knowledge is very impressive!! I walked in and told them what I needed- they were fast, friendly and helpful with the information they shared with me. When I made my choices for what I needed they fixed everything for me right then and there. It took about 12 minuets total. They also have an air pump--so if you are every riding and need some air stop in! I will totally go back here when I'm in need for more bike work. read more

I do not like writing bad reviews. However, when a place of business is consistently being discussed in a consistent light, I think it is safe to say accuracy is winning out. Bike Line (broad ripple) has a nice selection of bikes, tools, and accessories. They have a knowledgeable staff, and a great service department. The convenient location in the heart of broad and on the Monon Trail makes other bike shops envious. This ends the positive comments. First of all, if you feel like you need to be humbled, come right in! Bike Line staff is always looking to make you feel like a jackass! And, if you feel like your wallet is just a bit too heavy in your back pocket, feel free to have a little service done on your bike. They will ensure that every single small turn of the wrench will find its way onto your bill. I have spent a lot of money in this store. I have bought many bike tools, tubes, accessories, and labor hours from them. Mostly, because it is convenient and close. But friendly service has never once been part of the package. Experience means a lot to me when spending my dollars. I finally made the decision to walk away. Experiences like these drive people to the big chains like Performance (where everyone actually IS friendly) or into smaller shops with less inventory like Joe's (because the service is unbeatable). Do yourself a favor. Stay ahead of the problems with your bike. Plan your shopping experiences elsewhere. And if you must go to Bike Line, remember that you did nothing wrong. Its not your fault. I've had several "wow" experiences here lately! I just started biking a lot more and Bike Line has been very helpful in this new endeavor. I stopped in a few weeks ago to get a new helmet, tire (since mine was suddenly completely flat) and lights for safety. Not 1, not 2 but 3 employees were super helpful in helping me choose products and getting my bike fixed up. I thought it would take several hours but I was out the door, biking to errands in 15 minutes! I went back a few weeks later to buy bike shorts, which trust me, make a huge difference for your tush when biking long-ish distances. And I was recently back a third time when I thought my bike chain broke, but the repair guy just simply looped it back onto the gear. He was super nice about it and didn't make me feel like an idiot.
