This is an adorable little ice cream shop in the Aksarben neighborhood. Very cute and colorful inside, with bright green and orange walls - and a cute as sin little penguin mascot in the corner holding his own rolled ice cream! I had been to a few rolled ice cream shops before, so I knew what to expect in this experience. The staff were amazing and it was so cool to see them do the rolling of the ice cream and add in the chosen toppings perfectly. On our first trip there, I had the strawberry shortcake flavor combo and my husband had the Oreo cookie combo. They were both so neatly created with the toppings telling you just what treat you got, very noticeably. No mixing up your ice cream here! Our second visit, we got the s'mores mixture, which came with so many brightly colored marshmallows (like in Lucky Charms) and my husband got his Oreo one again (don't mess with success, I guess). Freezing Thai is a great little treat shop to try out, especially if you've never had rolled ice cream before. Next time I will try the shakes or coffee drinks, for sure!
After a savory lunch, I wanted something sweet. Luckily this ice cream shop was couple blocks away. We walked down the shopping area and came to this cafe that shared the space with fried chicken restaurant. Order at the counter or kiosk and just hangout while they make your order. You're able to watch them smash the ice cream and roll them. I was still full and ordered just bubble tea.
I really feel like this is a not so hidden gem. My kids love the variety of options. From fresh fruit to Oreos, they are all delicious. The service is really awesome here. They are very helpful and give you a great show while making each dish. The place is a little small with limited seating, but you are really coming for the ice cream.
We were surprised how fast we got our ice cream considering the long line of about 15 people ahead of us, plus the time it would take for ice cream to be made individually. We had the taro and the mango strawberry ice creams and it was delicious. Even in the late summer, it was sooo hot inside (as if they had the heat on). I couldn't finish my ice cream--a little bit too sweet for me, but I did really like how refreshing it was. The taro was excellent and I'd recommend getting it!
My friends and I visited Thai Rolled Ice Cream and had an outstanding experience! While my friends tried the ice cream itself, I stuck to the food and boba, but collected their thoughts regarding the ice cream (and of course my own since they kindly let me try some). The flavor combinations are very fun and there is a wide variety, so you'll find something in your comfort zone regardless of your tastes! From cotton candy and Trix to coffee and fruit centered bowls, you'll want to return to try out another combination for sure. My friends reported that the texture was unique and said "I love to experience a new texture" as the ice cream starts off quite hard due to the process of creating the rolls, but becomes creamy and thick as you are eating. There could ALWAYS be more toppings, of course! The boba tea was a huge hit for everyone involved. Skeptical at first, only one person ordered it: the Miss Matcha, and then ALL OF US WALKED BACK TO THE RESTAURANT TO BUY ONE. It was that good! We all felt traditional and stuck to the tapioca boba, but switched up the teas. I ordered a Thai Tea, my first time trying the flavor. I enjoyed it as it was not overly sweet, but had a citrusy and herbal flavor. The black sugar was more similar to a sweet beverage you'd pick up at a coffeeshop - a true blend of Carmel and maple flavors, which was a very sweet surprise and reminiscent of waffle crisp cereal! The miss matcha was still a favorite as it was not strong green tea, but just enough to be both sweet and still have the herbal essence of a tea. Lastly, I had to try the Vegan Soba Bowl! I'm not a big tofu person, but this tofu was soft and able to be crumbled around into the bowl rather than eaten in big mushy bites (haha). There was a good amount of all the toppings, the edamame and jalapeño being my favorite additions, but I did add soy sauce for some extra pops of flavor, as it was not robust, and what it, lacked in robust flavor, it made up and freshness, and I'd classify this as a perfect match for someone who wants a nutritional and filling meal without being too heavy of a dish. I would most definitely order this again, and possibly create my own bowl as that is an option, and I am obsessed with their soba noodles. No review is complete without thinking of the staff, even though the spot was very busy, the staff was very accommodating, and answered questions about the Boba tea well also informing us of any wait times so that we would be prepared. Your ticket is given a number and next to the pick up counter they keep track of what order they are on with a digital display on the wall. Check out this spot if you haven't yet! It will be a great summertime treat.
It's a little confusing when you go in, but the ice cream is truly the best! Orders take a while, but we were there on a crowded Friday night. Everyone who works there is very nice and it's super fun to watch them make the ice creams. Plenty of seating and room to enjoy the treats although it gets pretty loud. The food and drinks here are tasty, but there are things that could be done to improve the experience. The way that ordering is set up is not useful, especially if there is a crowd. On our most recent visit, there wasn't a crowd, and even though we had some familiarity with the offerings, it's still confusing. I would definitely recommend looking over the menu on Yelp or online before heading over here. The menu board can only be seen when you are close to the front of the line, and there's a lot to read. But that's just for the food! There are paper signs taped up at the front for the drinks and the ice cream selections, as well as for other menu items. Prices don't seem to be listed for drinks and ice cream, so be aware that adding a few drinks at $7.50 or something each can lead to a pretty high total cost. There is a menu board in the other room but you have to order from the one at the main entrance, and it can be crowded there. Poke bowls were good, and I loved my Black Sugar Latte. My daughter went back later for ice cream, she said it was amazing. But after paying $70 for 3 poke bowls + drinks I wasn't really interested. Music (Sweet 98 pop) was a little too loud (about 72 dB) to have a comfortable conversation, in my opinion. Though I admit I am old. I don't dislike the place, but there are other places for poke that are more comfortable for me.
The service is always terrible here the workers seem to be very rude. I do like the icecream however. I wish the Mix In's rolled icecream was closer to my home. Aksarben is such a convenient area. I rarely go anymore.

The ice cream was flavorful and all that was added to the bowl was cute. Watching them make the creations was my favorite part. I was surprised to see their full menu and can't wait to go back to try their teriyaki chicken. My husband wants to try their poke bowls.
While at Aksarben for their concert series, we supported by Freezing Thai for the first time. Although we were impressed by the range of their menu and tea offerings, we stuck with our original craving: rolled ice cream. The store front is relatively small, but they offer a side room with additional seating. You also have several options throughout Aksarben for outdoor seating! The line was long, but moved quickly. Everyone we spoke with was very friendly and happy to answer questions about the menu. They make the ice cream behind a glasses-in counter, toward the back of the store. Watching them make and roll each concoction is a fun way to pass the time while you wait for your order. The ice cream itself is fun - it's super frosty and light, piled with toppings and full of color. As other reviewers mentioned, there are lots of flavor options to choose from and you'll most likely find something to satisfy everyone. As for the flavor, we tried the Key Lime and Mango Tango, and both were lacking the kind of knock-out flavor that we were looking for in an ice cream. If you prefer a more subtle flavor that blooms a bit as the ice cream melts, this may be a great option for you. I couldn't really taste a mango flavor outside of the fruit pieces that were piled on top,m. My husband said the same about the graham cracker and lime syrup he watched them fold into his key like pie. The texture was fun and the process was definitely unique, but I think I'm more likely to return to try their teas or food than I am to sample more of the ice cream.
Went here to cure a sweet tooth and it was a fabulous experience. It wasn't too busy on a Thursday evening but there was a line. We did have to wait for our ice cream for 10 or so minutes but the kiddos didn't mind - they were mesmerized by the ice cream rolling. They loved their ice cream. I ordered a brown sugar boba...which they call latte...I was confused. But it tasted good, a bit too sweet, couldn't taste the tea..if there was any. I tend to prefer boba places that give you preferences but if I came here again I'd likely get another. The actual tapioca was delicious and fresh which can be hard to find. Overall, we had a great little visit turned into adventure that was mentioned multiple times as the days followed.
This was such a pleasant surprise! I've never had Thai rolled ice cream, so I wasn't sure what to expect. However, it's just as delicious as hand scooped and has a slightly more icy texture, like a cross between dip n dots and hand scooped. I had the monster treat #20, which is cookie dough. Lots of little cookie pieces (think chips a hoy) and very filling. Nate and I ended up sharing since portions are huge.

This place is a great experience. First, there are TONS of flavor combinations to choose from and they are always adding new flavors to the menu so you can switch it up and try something new every time! The vibe is great and it's so fun watching the ice cream get rolled right in front of you. I went for the sweet and salty which has caramel and pretzels and it was soooo good. My only critique would be that it is slightly on the pricey side, but you do get a lot of ice cream so it makes sense! read more
Freezing (Thai Rolled Ice Cream) is a local ice cream shop at Aksarben Village on the main strip near Picklemans, Roast, and Herbe Staint. It's the first place in Omaha serving this popular and trendy treat-milky creamy ice cream rolled into little cylinders and stuffed into a cup with toppings. The price point here is about $6.5 + tax, but after you see the work the staff does to create your dessert, you understand why. The process starts at the counter, where you order the flavor you want (currently there are 11 choices). They create the blend (which is all liquid/fruit/toppings/cookie crumbles mixture) and that gets poured onto a cold slab where with some manual scraping, mixing, and a lot of upper arm strength, your rolled icecream is textured from liquid to frozen creamy goodness. The time it takes to make this certainly requires some patience, but I think the end product makes the wait worthwhile. My avocado flavor was light, not too sweet, and perfectly cold and textured (not too runny or thin). It's a great treat and if you're stuffed after a meal, could easily be shared with others. I am very happy that this style of ice cream has come to Omaha. Maybe ice cream macaroons are next :) read more

I don't know about you, but it's not often I think to myself "self, I'd love to spend $6 on ice cream" but when I do... Freezing isn't a bad spot to spend the 600 pennies! This was my first visit after seeing many posts about it. The system they've set up works well. I appreciate that there's one set price, so I can choose my favorite flavor without debating over prices and comparing sizes, etc. Service was fast, despite there being a long line ahead of us. We waited for a little while before receiving our treat, but when there's something like the assembly line readily seen, you don't seem to mind the extra few minutes of waiting. The ice cream (we got the mango offering) was so much lighter than what I'm used to, but I LOVED it. It was a great refreshing treat. I split this dish, but because of how light the ice cream was, it really wouldn't have felt all that over-indulgent to keep it to myself! Great flavors to choose from! Great combos! Thai rolled ice cream is one of those fun foods everyone should be introduced to. Having your ice cream made from milk, frozen, then rolled in front of you is definitely something everyone should see. Freezing Thai is currently only available for take-out due to COVID. The customer service was okay, one of the workers was pretty new and had some issues with our orders. The ice cream, as ice cream always is, was great. Not sure how you can go wrong with frozen sugar and toppings! FYI, the Cookie Monster is colored vanilla ice cream (not flavored) with cookie dough chunks which was a small let down. I'm never going to say no to ice cream. So if someone wants to go, I'm in! Happy eating Yelpers! read more
I love frozen yogurt and ice cream... coming here after dinner was just random chance. The flavor options are endless, you can get anything you want... I went for the "sweet and salty" which had crushed pretzels inside. Man it was good. I also was able to try the green tea! Yummmy .. my only feedback would be to give more toppings!!! I love a topping covered ice cream dish.. otherwise this place is excellent! Watching someone make rolled ice cream is super satisfying!! Makes you want to get behind the counter and try it for yourself! Sorry I didn't get good pics! I was too eager to eat! read more

Have you seen videos of ice cream being made on a big piece of metal and eventually served in rolls of colorful desserts with yummy toppings? Well, at Freezing you can see it in person and enjoy them as well! I was so excited when I heard that we're going to have this specialty ice cream shop in town. Although it took me awhile to finally be able to try it, it's was worth the trip. Location wise, it's pretty strategic - in the growing and popular area of Aksarben. The store is small but why do you need a big space for an ice cream shop? The wait time is about 10-15 minutes depends on which day you're going. Love that they provide you with a big board of Menu complete with the pictures & price. We tried the Strawberry Lady, Morning Latte and their newest one - Matcha Queen during our last visit. There are 6 rolls of ice cream in a small container which I think is not enough for the price charged but it's good & fun to eat If you never have one, then you should definitely give it a try read more

I had been really excited to try this place since it opened. But I could not wait in line for an hour with a baby in this small space. So I gave up for awhile... then finally on date night, I got the chance to finally try it! Not many people in the store, but mind you it is December and cold. This place is definitely all for show and the ice cream isn't very good. It's probably more for young children- with the sprinkles and candy toppings. It tastes plain and nothing like rolled ice cream in bigger cities. I hate to say it, but it is really overhyped. Also, the girl made my strawberry/mango ice cream creation on the same frozen "plate" as the last customer (who had chocolate something). There was still pieces of chocolate on the frozen plate, then she wiped the chocolate off the spatula with a towel....yes, a towel. Maybe use a new spatula or plate before serving the next customer. read more
Thai Roll Ice Cream shops has been ROLLING into town nonstop! Freezing* being the first one to roll into Omaha is a great addition to the Aksarben village! After watching videos on the internet the process of the "rolled" ice cream being made, I was fascinated & hungry for some! It's true we eat with our eyes first - The best part is watching your ice cream being made right in front of you! The process to create this frozen dessert takes about 5 to 10 mins, where flavored milk-based liquid is poured onto an ice pan & gets "stir-fried" - chopped, probed, and then rolled into its cylinder shape! You can enjoy a cup of this creamy goodness for about $7. I eat ice cream daily, sometimes twice daily - I considered myself an expert in the field of eating ice cream. Although Freezing is fun to watch, and the product is instagramable, but the taste is mediocre. If you have never experienced Thai Roll Ice Cream, life is short just like ice cream on a hot summer day, you must come in before it melts! If you are an ice cream enthusiast who is new to Omaha food scene, then you must hit up Ted & Wally's Ultra-premium 20% butterfat ice cream & Coneflower's farm to cone concept ice cream! read more

A very unique twist on ice cream finally made its way to Omaha! This type of rolled ice cream is very popular down in New Orleans - They take the cream, pour it on a freezing cold stainless steel surface, add the toppings or other mix-ins, chop it up, flatten it out, roll it into spirals with a spatula, and top it with other ingredients. You get to watch the entire process, too! I ordered the Oreo and the S'Mores (there were two of us, not just for me...), both being phenomenal. Check it out! read more

Scrumptious and a real treat! When this place first opened the lines were a nightmare, but now, since the hype died down you actually get in the doors!! The menu has over 15 flavors and all have been my favorite to say the least! Trying Thai rolled ice cream is a fun activity to expose you to the many ways of indulging 1000 calories in one sitting!! Rolled ice cream is pretty awesome! Besides the novelty of watching someone pound away at some milk and added sugar and other flavors while it all crystalizes into creamy ice cream, it tastes great. Freezing's menu features a variety of ice cream cups with cute names like Miss Nilla Wafers, Strawberry Lady and S'mores S'mores Galore. You order at the counter and then they'll craft it together right in front of you. If it's busy (like on a Tuesday afternoon during my visit), expect to wait 5-10 minutes for your order. Prices are reasonable at around $7 a cup, one of which would likely be enough to satisfy two people. The only suggestion I'd have is to add some non-dairy milk options. Their Aksarben Village location is primo, especially with the warmer months finally upon us, UNO housing so close by and the constant foot traffic throughout the day and night. Definitely give Freezing a shot! read more

Our first time here. Watching them make it at the counter was amazing! Wait time wasn't long even though it was packed. Hubby had Mango Tango & I ordered the Sun Kissed. Ice cream was super creamy & surprisingly light. Love the fresh fruit. They are currently expanding their store so poke bowls are on hiatus but you can still order boba teas. Great location. Lots of nightlife all around. Pop up park across the street. read more
