It's a great place to let your Littles run wild, and play on the various playground equipment. It's a great place to let those tweens skateboard until their hearts content. It's a great place to connect with neighbors! We love the park because we can get our steps in during sunsets, while enjoying the fresh air. The park is super clean and safe, and it's not unusual to run into neighbors and friends. It's one of my favorite neighborhood parks.

But, there were graffiti vandalism at the skate/bike park, there were lots of big and small leftover actual food and cartons and packages in the playground mulch and all over the park left by community or people who visited. Despite that there were trash bin all over. If not with those, the park is nice if maintained by community or neighborhood. There is one portalet and about two water fountains.

Two of which are raised beds for the handicapped . Each plot is rent out to local residence for a small yearly fee. Not only is the garden used to grow fruits and vegetables. The City of Sacramento partnering with the Parks and Recreation Department conducts seminars throughout the year on composting ! These seminars will teach you how to recycle fruit ,vegetable , and yard clippings. These gardens are a wonderful place to meet neighbors and to learn as well as to teach gardening tips & tricks . Planting a seed and watching it grow to maturity can be very rewarding. This particular location is ideal for families whom live close and can walk to the garden. Trying to find a parking space close to the garden is almost impossible with it being so close to UCD Medical Center ! "HAPPY GARDENING " !!!

Within this particular park are a total of 40 lots . The lots are rented out to local residents for a small yearly fee . With warmer weather still here in Sacramento. Everyone's garden is in full bloom and producing wonderful flowers, fruits and vegetables . Within the confines of the park is a community gathering area with picnic tables and shade supplied by a huge pine tree. Here one can sit and relax after a hard days work in the garden. There is even and area for kids to play and to garden. All the garden area is surrounded by a fence and the entry gate is locked. Only renters have access to the gardens. Coming back to this neighborhood always brings back a lot of wonderful childhood memories ! This part of Sacramento still looks the same as it did some 50 years ago. "Frozen in time !" Compared to other community gardens that I have visited, "Southside Park Community Garden "is by far the most productive!
