Saw a concert here last week. Staff at this venue are great. Nice sized stage, good sound. The seating is on an incline so if you're seated you can see whatever it is you go to see. There's also standing room for some shows. The usual pricey concessions common in theaters. The restroom was clean. Plenty of parking (lots) very close. So, there ya go. Five stars. The Fremont Theater is definitely a classic in good and bad ways. First my wife and I went to see a comedian. The theater in the front and inside look really neat, due to the classic, original look. Awesome they serve pizza, popcorn, Carmel corn, water, soda and have a full on bar. Now for the bad. We had closed Fiji waters (2) and they wouldn't let us bring them in. Of course they were selling waters $5 a piece. Wonderful ahah Money Grab. Then the seats are small and tight, everyone was sitting on one another! Then the main capper, they didn't run the air!!!! The comedian kept on telling them how hot it was and he was sweating, like all of us! Super hot! Parking is a little chore, as well, of course. *Overall, neat old theater, but maybe too old! Lame security patrolled the room all night long looking for reasons to take things away from people. The band on stage literally said "now pull your lighters out or your phone whatever you have and put it up into the air!" Security then moved and and proceeded to systematically take the lighters away from people in groups of 3 like the 3 stooges. Thow show was great. The staff was miserable and mistreated attendees. I went with my dad and a friend and when the show was over I stepped outside for 10 seconds not realizing my party was no longer following behind me I turned around and tried to head back inside and I was met with an arm to my chest telling me "you cant go back inside!" After i watched many people infront of me go back inside the building before my very eyes. I don't have the affinity for the Fremont Theater as others do. Haven't lived in Paso/SLO for just over a year, it's not an historical icon for me. So, I review based on now. True. It has a nostalgic feel, back to the past. I love the swirled and painted ceiling in the theatre, art deco style. I attended an event that had metal folding chairs in the front rows (where standing room would be). Uncomfortable, and far from deluxe. So, there you have it. A mild experience. read more

Nostalgia drips from the ceiling and walls of this well maintained theater. So much murals, decorations and curtains to spot. It seems the first set of front rows were standard, movable chairs. Behind it were the familiar fold up stationary velvet padded chairs. I was invited to a concert and the sound system was great and the stage standard. I was lucky no one was seated in front of me in those beginning row seats. It seems to slope up behind those movable chairs rows, so one might be farther from the stage but get a higher-up view of the stage. read more

Beautifully restored theater that has seating and up front standing room for general admission shows. Friendly door and concessions staff. And there are a few parking structures and street parking nearby. I love venues like this because they remind me of the legendary Filmore East but more up to date. Fremont theater puts rules on their concerts but doesn't follow them. My friends and I waited the appropriate time to get the tickets to Foo Fighters. They said line doesn't start until 7 am but it was already miles long way before that. Why even bother having the rules and not enforcing them? They didn't give everyone a fair shot by doing this. Don't bother getting your hopes up for any other concerts knowing this. The Fremont is a terrible business. read more

The Fremont really ads character to downtown SLO. I love the bright colorful neon lights at night. My friends and I attended a concert here and had the best time. The venue is much larger that I thought it'd be. Movie theatre seating and a pretty big stage. The security working that night were super cool and chill. Enforced the rules without killing the vibe. Much appreciated. Concessions was alright, and they had a small bar. BATHROOM HACK for women since our bathrooms always have a line - next to the men's restroom there's a slightly hidden all gender bathroom. That one stayed empty after the concert.. probably because it's hidden! Why not 5 stars? Feels pretty old and dusty inside. A new paint job and carpets would go a long way. read more

The Fremont Theater is iconic in San Luis Obispo and a treasured piece of history. Back when they discontinued showing movies here, a big debate ensued and the deciding vote was to keep it part of SLO's rich culture and local entertainment. Since its inception, it was a valued piece of art onto itself. The acoustics are surprisingly really good, even better than many large theaters with name acts in Los Angeles County. Super excited to see Demetri Martin, such a prized comedian! He tends to tour much larger venues, so he and his team must also be privy to this community's charmed theater. Drinks, alcoholic and sodas and popcorn for sale to bring into the theater; no outside food allowed, of course. Beware, readers, of attending an event at this venue! I will avoid it from now on. Here's my story. I purchased two tickets for a show last Friday (Nov 15, 2024), and the event was cancelled... Too bad, yes, BUT here are the parts that are unforgivable: 1. They never bothered to contact me, so we showed up for the show, only to find the lights off and the doors closed. Really? Couldn't you have sent me an email? And next... 2. There was a sign on the box office with the usual rhetoric: "due to unforeseen circumstances...blah blah blah...and refunds have been issued." WELL, NO they haven't! I, for one, don't have a refund. So...I was forced to enter "refund request HELL." Here's what happened next: they made me open a problem ticket with a company called "Prekindle" (but just try finding the correct email to send your request for support--you'll get bounced around Prekindle for a while), and next Prekindle told me that it'll take a while to determine whether in fact I actually deserve a refund. Are you kidding me? Under what circumstances would you NOT issue a refund for a cancelled show? But wait...there's more! Next, I found out that Prekindle is not the place where I should request a refund (even though it says so on my tickets). I had to contact "EventTicketCenter" instead. I had to leave a message, and the person who called me back (he was very nice) said that they had no record of this particular show being cancelled. I insisted that it had been, and asked him to please check. He did finally verify that the show had been cancelled, and--God willing--I'm supposed to be issued a refund within the next few days. (I don't have one yet, but hope springs eternal.) Honestly, having to take so much time out of my workday to deal with this...it shouldn't have happened. I shouldn't have to contact multiple companies and beg for a refund for a cancelled show. Shame on you, Fremont Theater, for making your customers jump through so many annoying hoops. Perhaps it's time to review your policies and the subs you contract with for your ticket sales. They are not serving you well. read more

My friend and I were in town for the Straight Tequila Night concert at the Fremont Theater. We were having a fabulous evening until we encountered security at the entry. I had opened my cross body purse for them to inspect the contents. As I went through the metal detector security was checking the zipper on my jacket. He noticed I was chewing gum and told me I had to spit it out. As he was distracting me, the older female was inspecting my purse and found gum in a side pocket (why was she opening other parts of my purse without my knowledge). She told me she was throwing out my gum with about 10-12 sticks left in the container. I don't know why I wasn't offered the option to put it in my car since it was right around the corner. She also stated the theater website indicates you can't chew gum (if it's on the website I was unable to find it). To top it off security reiterated to spit out my gum, which I had already done. The male security guard was all puffed up over gum. The concert was great, the staff at the theater needs work! People come to have fun not to be intimidated by an overzealous security officer/officers. I would think twice before buying tickets for this facility until the staff learns some customer service etiquette. read more

Great time at the Fremont Theatre last night. We saw Keb Mo, Blues & they were fabulous. Terrific music - took me back home. Beautiful lighting. Bravo. Super acoustics. And we danced! Yay! Packed house, no proof of vaccination required. Clean theatre, restrooms too. Attendants in aisles with flashlights for secure walkways to & from seats. Looked like tasty refreshments (we didn't partake) & I love that you can take your drink into the theatre. Fun night! So good to attend a music event again. read more

The Fremont is the Grande Dame of theaters in San Luis Obispo, and she has gotten a face lift and a new lease on life as a venue for live acts. Like any woman of a certain age, there are a few lines in the facade, but the town of San Luis has a warm heart, and has embraced her vintage charm. The murals are now vibrant and lively, the lighted ceiling is a vision, and the bathrooms have each doubled in size. The seats have been recovered, but leave a bit to be desired in comfort (especially if you compare them to new recliner style theatrical seating), but they do capture the aura of a bygone era. We attended the closing night of the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival the other night and were lucky enough to witness the awards ceremony. Filmmakers from all over the world had entered and it was especially gratifying to see a category for filmmakers under 18. Those up and comers were well represented by members of the SLO community! We also got to see a screening of "After Everything" a film by local actor, writer and director Hannah Marx. The film was an intriguing romance that explored the psychology of a relationship between a young man and a young woman that developed under the stress of a physical illness. The way the couple dealt with this hardship seemed honest and enlightening and at times even humorous. It was an eye-opening and fresh point of view. As a follow up to the film festival, this week the theater is bringing to the big screen the short films of Cal Poly students. Since part of the mission of the film festival is educational, the Fremont is a great showcase for these films. Like any Grande Dame, the Fremont has blossomed in this latest incarnation. read more

My friend and I attended a concert at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, Ca., last night and had our own, personal ICE experience. When the concert ended, we approached the stage side entrance to try and meet the musician to tell him how much we loved his performance. We were immediately grabbed by two extremely aggressive security guards who shoved us into the wall and screamed at us. I thought we were going to get dragged off to Alligator Alcatraz. We were absolutely stunned. In all of my years of concert going in the United States I have never, ever experienced any kind of aggression from anyone. When I complained to the theater manager after this event occurred, he said he didn't see what happened and said he would check into it, but he was extremely indifferent and made no apologies or effort to address the issue in our presence even though the security guards who put hands on us stood nearby with smirks on their faces. Folks, the Fremont clearly has customer service and management issues. I have since read that overzealous security guards are a constant problem there. It's no wonder that the theater didn't have that many concert goers. In any event, two women witnessed this aggression toward my friend and I and encouraged us to call the police which we did. We are waiting for the police report and plan to file charges. I hope for the sake of live music events that Fremont management will rethink it customer service policy and hire trained security guards instead of bullies. I won't be going back to that venue until then. What a terrible, sad experience. I've never experienced anything like this in all of my 69 years. Sad day in America. read more

Very cool venue. Not the easiest place to park, but if you go 4-6 blocks away, you can usually park for free and walk into downtown SLO. Main reason for minus 1 star? Horrible popcorn. Like inedible. A theatre with bad popcorn is like an Italian restaurant with bad spaghetti, c'mon, guys! Buy a new machine or popcorn brand or better butter or something! Very disappointed that we arrived before the doors were to open for a 8pm Jimmie Vaughan concert and waited for an hour with growing concern that the ticket booth wasn't opening. Finally another of the folks waiting with us discovered on the ARTIST'S website...not the theater's...that the show had been cancelled. NO email, no text, no call...NO SIGN on the door, on the ticket booth or on the marquee to tell us it was t happening. Sad way to treat your customers. I've been to the Fremont several times when I'm visiting the area (I live 6hrs away) and had a great time but I will be hesitant to try it again in the future. We could have gone to see Bruce Hornsby who did play in SLO tonight. ‍ Tip for the management at the Fremont...at least put a sign in the ticket booth window so you don't have a crowd gathering outside getting more and more disappointed by the minute. Got kicked out of Boiler Bang for wearing a construction vest, security thought we were associated with people who tried sneaking in, would not recommend if you're trying to get harassed by the employees. Saw YYSE last night. I like how even though it was sold out, it wasn't packed tight. It did get VERY HOT before the show even started. They don't check on bathrooms, was out of soap and toilet paper. It's an older theater but its longstanding says a lot about the success of this place. The location is great and close to a lot of restaurants so it makes it a great date venue. The saw Gin Blossoms performed and it felt like an intimate setting, even though it was fairly large. All seating was general seating and it was first come, first serve type of seating so if you came early, you can pick a pretty nice close seat. read more

Fun, vintage, smallish theater across the street from San Luis Obispo City Hall, in the downtown area. It has an art deco style. Looks like much of the original charm from when built. A staffer guessed it was built in the 40s, when I asked. Great smaller theater. We went to see a Bee Gees cover band on a Sunday night. Lights and sound were good. They sold drinks, including beer & wine, and popcorn in the lobby. The show was only about half full as far as the audience. We had a blast and went to the back of the theater to dance- out of respect for the others near us who sat for most of the show. Venue security seemed very cool and let people dance in front of the stage and side aisles. It was a bunch of middle to older aged folks, such as myself, but we still had a blast! Best part is it was within walking distance from the hotel we stayed at, Hotel Cerro, and also near lots of restaurants and bars. I e-mailed the Fremont box office on a Friday and the staff, named Dolly, replied that same day. Shout out to Dolly!Fine venue for a small to medium sized show experience. I have always loved this venue and the history it brings to our county. Saw Christopher Cross. The sound was great and the seating was good sat toward the back it not an issue seeing or hearing. An older woman sitting in front of me kept schussing me and giving me dagger eyes. I was singing along as was everyone. Maybe notify people that this is a venue for fun! Not a venue to sit silently and wArch a stage. Nope! Anyway, wine was ok and my husband has a slice of pizza as well. The night was great and his show was entertaining, funny and made for a great night out except for that old lady. Let me start off by saying that Aaron Watson's concert was AWESOME! I'm so glad I made the trip out here (from Hawaii) to SLO, to watch this guy. Really, he. is. amazing. Dude is the real deal and tries to actually connect and show his appreciation for his fans. Now why does this place only get 3 stars? First of all, before they allow you in, they search you and the woman who searched me should have warned me she was going to lift the back of my shirt up. Kind of uncomfortable and outside too! Then they throw everyone's gum in a box and with a smart ass attitude tell you to come back and find it after the concert if you still want it. Also, if you're into drinking adult beverages...you better have cash on you cuz they don't accept cards. Fine, but that line is long. They should have more than one area to buy alcohol. Not even worth it to go back for a second or third beer. Kinda lame. As for parking, we took an uber because street parking can get kinda tricky, but you can find it. read more

Wow wow wow, the Fremont came a long way since I first watched a movie here. Previously a movie theater only, it has developed into the premiere venue for concerts in downtown SLO. Many big names including Brandi Carlile, Jenny Lewis, Suicide Girls etc. are attracted to play here, and the concerts offer comfortable seating with great views from anywhere in the building. The art deco murals and decorations are stunning, and sometimes I catch myself watching the lights bounce off the colorful walls and ceilings during the concerts. Prices are affordable, and you can purchase popcorn, snacks and drinks in the lobby prior to and during to the shows - cash only, so make sure to pack some bills! read more

This is a very old theatre, but SLO has made what use of it they can. The payment systems at the concession stand are no cashless, so you need to use only a debit/credit card, or Venmo to purchase refreshments. They do sell wine and beer. We found our seats, which were in the rear half of the theatre. There is very little leg room. From our vantage point, it appeared that most people preferred to purchase seats in the front half of the theatre, although it appears to us that these were folding or plastic seats; you might want to verify that. Of course, those seats are closer to the stage. We enjoyed the show; however, during the show, some of us in the back section started to hear a small cluster of young people who were standing together with their drinks at the top of the aisle, where one would enter the theatre. They were talking and laughing like people would do at a party. It was both bothersome and distracting from the show; however, no one from the theatre arrived to ask them to leave. Many in the area turned around with annoyance, but nothing was done until I walked over and asked them why they were making so much noise. They apologized and disbursed, but it was strange that the theater didn't handle that. The last thing I'll say is that the seats in the upholstered section may need a thorough cleaning and some type of pest control; both of us noticed itching on our elbows, ankles, and back, the following morning. read more
