So as we are driving on the highway I search yelp, this is the first place I find, 4 star rating, great pictures, great name. Great first impression! The final opinion? 5 stars ! We think we were greeted and served by the owner. When we ordered our drinks he kindly explained to us the difference between a Macchiato and a laté it's still a little confusing for me to explain. French Press brings a little Brooklyn to Needham with its chalkboard-and-wood interior, delicious albeit pricier pastries and handcrafted coffee. It's what Starbucks tries to be; what Dunkin is allergic to. If you're the kind of person who would rather spend $5 on one slice of aesthetically-pleasing, handmade cake than 5 highly processed donuts at Dunkin, then congrats, French Press is for you. On my first visit here I found a beautiful and quiet place to relax and hang out with friends, with a moderate amount of seating and a comfy sofa in the corner. Don't forget to reserve some time to gawk over the display case full of baked goods. As tempting as their colorful macarons and cakes look, they clearly do flaky pastries very well here too, so I recommend trying something of the croissant variety at least once. I enjoyed my Kouign-Amann, although the pear filling could have been softer. If you're looking for a substantial lunch, I recommend ordering a sandwich since the quiches are quite small. read more

Bought a double espresso over Ice and was not allowed to get it in a normal plastic cup I had to have it in a mini cup that barely holds any ice in it so what's the point of getting iced and getting charged through the roof and all this craziness cause if I add milk it would be a latte and that's not allowed unless I order a latte to begin with.....Ummmm WHAT??!! I love the atmosphere at the French Press, it is always warm and cozy. I have stopped by a few times to get coffee and it is delicious and strong. The almond milk is good and the service is very quick. The only down side is that it is a little pricey. I also personally do not like paper straws. I am all for saving the environment, but paper just doesn't hold up against liquid. read more

Needham needs a good quality coffee spot. This place feels modern, clean and upscale. Their menu was slightly limited, but they've been open less than a month and I think their working out the kinks. I ordered an iced cold brew and a pastry. Both were very good. The coffee was quality and the pasty had an authentic French feel. They make everything in house. When you find people that care this much about the quality and craftsmanship of their products, why would you go anywhere else? The pour-over is a must have, the macaroons are delicious (although a bit pricey), and I would return daily for the chicken salad sandwich (very well priced) if I could find the time. The atmosphere is nice and clean, could be a little 'comfier' but there isn't too much space inside. But these little things don't matter because of the excellence at which they prepare and deliver their food and beverage. This place is an exceptional treasure. The coffee is uniformly excellent and made-to-order, and the house-made pastries are insane. And the ambience is unique: great jazz music, but not too loud for conversation, a really nice work space at a long table that seats 9, solid wifi, a comfy sofa, and 7 bar stools at the window table. Just a really nice place to work, read and chat, with great coffee and deserts. Customer service is attentive, pleasant and efficient. My mom bought scones from here before as a take out, and when she got home she found a piece of long hair in it. She said she hasn't gone since then. A month or so after that incident, I was invited by my friend to have a coffee there. So I ordered a cappuccino and Oreo-orange mousse(cake?). The cappuccino was fine but there was a short piece of hair on my mousse. Since I was with my friend and didn't want to bother her about it(cause she seemed like she loved this place), I just avoided that area with the hair and ate the rest of it. I went to this establishment after checking their website to confirm they were open until 7:30pm on a Saturday. When I arrived at 5pm there was a note on the door saying, "We close today at 4pm." I'd driven over an hour to meet someone there, and they posted NOTHING on their website saying they were closing at 4pm that day. read more

Was pretty good. Blonde guy made the best latte I've ever had, which is saying something. I told him and he said "I know." Hahaha. Baker was there making stuff and all of it looked amazing. I had a ham and cheese croissant and it was perfect. Owner was there and he reminds me of a cartoon character. In fact it was the worst part. He kept trying to make friends with everybody. I could see the contempt in his staff's eyes. Also, holy cow do some entitled people live in Needham or what. It's a small place made smaller when everybody needs a chair for their coat. So many screaming children. And lady in front of my had a huge order and got super upset when they couldn't do it immediately on command. Owner and customers-- worst part. Got a chocolate chip cookie. It was overbaked...I couldn't bite into it or break it. The waitperson took it back grudgingly and told me it was just personal preference. So I ordered something else which he overcharged me for, and when I pointed it out instead of apologizing he just grunted at me. Friendly greeting, interesting cafe menu, yummy looking sweets....but...the Salade Nicoise was just good, and shouldn't it be really good at a French Cafe? The salad itself was a tasty enough version with nice roasted potatoes (though boiled is the norm), tuna, haricot verts, boiled egg, and olives on field greens. But, the dressing was fairly bland and served timidly in a tiny plastic cup rather than confidently on the salad. And, really, you'd be guillotined in France if you didn't include a hunk of fresh, crusty French bread on the side! I mean, even Panera gives bread with their $11 salads, and their bread is consistently crunchy/crusty (if not a bit heavy), instead of the spongy, ultra-thin slices (why?) that the server reluctantly got for me. Sorry, but dressing and bread are important components when "French" is in your name, and service counts too on a rating, since -like so many places now- they expect a tip up-front when you order at the counter (btw, I tip generously for good service at restaurants, 20% and more, and I also give glowing reviews when warranted). Here, I declined upfront and left $2 cash in the jar. I mean, how much are you supposed to tip when you order lunch at a counter that they deliver to your table, but don't come by to ask how it is and you are expected to bus your own dishes? Oh, and back to the bread. I bought a baguette on my way out. I'd say the guillotine would be used again on a French Baker whose loaf did not separate at the top with crusty ridges and valleys. Maybe just a bad day, but French bread at a French bakery should be very different than what you get at Stop and Shop. read more

Really nice addition to Needham, the town center needed a coffee shop and this is much better than Starbucks. There are a variety of specialty coffees to choose from and the staff is really helpful. The cold brew iced coffee and iced chai are both great. The pastries are also delicious and it seems that there is more variety now. This is a great place to stop in the morning on the way to the train station. read more
