I am someone who has a good base of Spanish under my belt, but for a beginners class this was very difficult. It felt very freeform/loose and I didn't feel we focused on grammar enough to speak in sentences (though we were expected to aloud in class). If you are someone who prefers structure, this is not the class for you. I attended every week until the last two courses because I felt I was not gaining anything, plus two of our classes got rescheduled due to the teacher's illness (not their fault, but I would've rathered a substitute as many of us travelled from BK for the class...) and we never received information about when they would be made up? I sort of feel like it was a waste for me The teacher was super nice and obviously very knowledgeable, but I think this class will not be a good fit for you unless it's just for a hobby or trying to memorize phrases for a vacation. It felt way too informal. If you are seriously trying to learn Spanish, I would not recommend and suggest you take your money elsewhere, though I cannot speak for my classmates or other language courses at this place

Eduardo was a fun and engaging Spanish instructor. Classes were well structured, but didn't feel overly rigid. I felt engaged the whole time. I went into this with intermediate skills in French, which definitely helped. The course is quite fast paced and covers a lot of ground. If you have no experience with a second language you'll definitely need to study harder to keep up. I used Duolingo for a month before the class and it definitely helped get me started with at least some knowledge. I wish there was a little more time for conversation and interaction between students, but I don't see how they could do it unless the class met twice a week. Overall I liked the format of the class and would recommend it!

I tried a couple other schools in Manhattan before I decide but none of their "advanced" class was advanced enough for me. (I was in the break of my collage in Boston and my English level wasn't too low) This school has a great range of levels, many activities and if you have some trouble and want to speak in your language, they have advisers in many languages too which is a good option to have. Including teachers, they are all friendly and it was comfortable enough for me to stay long. I was in the highest class all the time but I saw many low level students (who couldn't speak AT ALL) became better speakers and enjoyed their stay in NY. I as an advanced student learned a lot and improved English in many ways which I was honestly not expected much from a language school. I would like to come back anytime if there is another chance!!

Whenever I learn a new language, my biggest fear is to actually speak the language because I am afraid that my counterpart wouldn't understand me, and if he/she doesn't, I wouldn't know how else to explain my ideas without speaking English. Not only is JP very approachable and friendly, but JP is also a very professionally qualified instructor (as he also teaches some French classes at NYU) and can immediately detect what you are trying to say and offers you with better ways (i.e. how natives would say) to express your ideas. JP sincerely wants to get to know everyone as much as he can and follows up with you so that he can be of help if you intend to continue to improve your language skills. My job requires lots of hours in winter, so I couldn't register for classes, but I will definitely be looking in spring if I could fit a class in my schedule.

First, the dropoff of the soil sample was easy with a dropoff box and I encourage anyone wanting a soil sample tested to dropoff or ship to this lab. Only a few others on the East Coast (namely land grant colleges like Rutgers, Penn State, SUNY, etc.) do these in case you wonder if your garden is safe for growing edible plants. As for the campus, a stately grand colonial architectural feel which even the new buildings like the arts center maintains. Copious all brick and white wood accents all exteriors with large grand height and stature as to shield, distance, and obviate the buzzing Brooklyn noisy locales all around the perimeter from the Flatbush commercial strip to Ocean Ave's speedy traffic to the Caribbean and Russian and other communities adjacent. Entry points are namely from Ocean Ave at Ave H by car to the ring road, Campus Road, or Brooklyn College stop on 2/5 trains on the eastern edge. Easy navigation thanks to a simple layout over just 35 acres makes getting lost unlikely even for unfamiliar visitors using the campus as a park. The famous lily pond is particularly tranquil. The most recent famous event here was Sanders' campaign launch a few months ago, but the arts center is its own busy community set of arts events and there're so very many student orgs doing so many great activities here. Brooklyn College is also home to a cafe in Boylan Hall and nice athletics fields which while not for public use are nice open spaces to admire and enjoy. All in all, a wonderful campus with tons of community works totalling a great asset to the community and city.

There was no real evaluation, just an online quiz, and when I arrived in the class, I quickly realized after a few sessions that it didn't match my needs at all. The class was pure conversation with no grammar explanations, no structure, and no rules, which made me feel completely lost. I actually needed more grammar-focused support, not just conversation. When I tried to switch levels, I wasn't offered a proper solution. Instead, I was only given about 70% credit for my remaining classes, with a two-month expiration. I couldn't use it because I was traveling, and their response time was slow, so the credit essentially became useless. Overall, I was disappointed with how the placement was handled and how inflexible the school was in helping me find the right level. I expected a more supportive and structured experience.

The classes focused 95% on grammar, with conversations limited to my teacher, Angele who asked each student what they did for the weekend/ what did we do since we last met, and we answered in French. She reviewed our homework by having each student read their homework out loud in French. She corrected our grammar and accents. Her teaching style was abrupt and rushed. Not welcoming or encouraging. She didn't look at our homework, so who knows if our spelling was correct? She followed the exercises in the handbook, with each student taking a turn to answer. The only visual aid was a chalkboard. When the teacher wrote in the board, we all hurried to copy down her points, then she stood in front of the board, so we couldn't read it. A smart board would have been a much better option. I only made it to the 6th class, because when I struggled to answer, Angele said nothing -no prompting from her- and it was embarrassing to sit there with no help from the teacher, with total silence in the class. She did this also to another make student. It made me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. Isn't the teacher supposed to prompt? I've taken Latin, Spanish and Italian classes taught by professional teachers, and they always prompted you. As another reviewer said, the teachers seemed more excited to see each other than their students. I'm now having more success with my French using free YouTube lessons - "The Complete French with Dylane."
