I tend to gravitate toward the savory crepes, which are consistently excellent, while the kids loved the sweet options topped with fruit and honey. The espresso drinks are fantastic and pair perfectly with the food. The eating space is adorable and adds to the charm, but it does fill up quickly -- definitely get there early, as it gets very crowded. Cute little place in Sykesville, I was killing some time and had to get breakfast so I decided to stop here for a sit down meal. This place was quite busy on a Sunday morning, I suspect it was because it was the last day of the farmer's market. I had the croiffle with bacon and cheese. I decided to add on a simple crepe as well since that seemed to be one of their main menu items. Though it was busy, I was able to find seating on the second floor. Vegan crepes that will make you weep. Try the chocolate banana crepe but ask for it vegan. They even have a savory crepe called The Vegan, with vegan cheese, spinach and plant based protein. Ambiance is charming -- an old house with an opened up 2nd floor with lots of seating plus outside seating that looks out on to historic Sykesville. Went here for brunch and got a variety of sweet and savory crepes. We mostly went with the specials and then added a nutella one, just to see how it was compared to some we've had in the past. The most entertaining part was being able to watch them make the crepes, which also meant it didn't feel like it took that long to get your food. Great speedy service! All of the sweet and savory crepes were pretty tasty and jam packed with ingredients. One of the specialty ones, included brie and there was so much it almost overpowered the rest of the crepe. They don't skimp on ingredients here. The nutella one was good, but definitely sweet. I assume they use the brand name. In the past we have had some homemade varieties that cut the sweetness a little and bring in more of the savory flavors of nuts. Overall, would recommend. We were reliving our past and decided to go off to Sykesville MD. The French Twist Cafe was our pre-selected target for a spot of lunch that we chose from Internet charm. Upon closer inspection, we were rather turned-off. The outside tables were mostly occupied by what seemed to be non customers not consuming any food or drink. Inside, there was something industrial going on in the front corner and we were disheartened to learn it was order at the counter and no service at the tables, and also this so called FRENCH cafe was sold out of croissants very early in the day. We just found the atmosphere to be much less than what was represented on the internet, much less charm. We decided to walk out disappointed. read more

This is an EXCELLENT choice for breakfast in the Sykesville area. Seriously so good. I love small businesses who do their food well, and their customers' stomachs even better. The service here was really good, the worker at the counter explained the menu to me and you can tell there is a really nice family feel here. Great for a quick bite to eat. I got the Canadian crêpe, which I learned is their most popular flavor. It was INCREDIBLE. Perfect ratio of eggs to bacon to cheese. I asked for maple syrup on the side, you can get it in the crepe but I prefer the sweetness on the side. My girlfriend ordered the Spanish crêpe, which was incredible as well. Hers came with hot sauce, which was indescribable as a spicy lover. I stole hers and used it for mine as well, haha. For the filling, the Spanish crêpe had eggs, cheddar cheese, avocado, salsa, and she added ham to it. It was great! You can never go wrong with any crêpe flavor here. My partner wanted to check out historic Sykesville, so naturally this place was on the list! He found this spot from an article mentioning this was one of the best cafes in MD. We were excited to come and check it out! We were greeted by friendly servers, which was a great start! Ordered crepes because how can you not at a French cafe? I enjoyed my Spanish crepe, it was salsa, eggs cheese and avocado( definitely lots of avocado!). It was filling and enjoyable, a lot more avocado than I expected but I prefer that to not enough! My partner really enjoyed his sweet crepe. I think the savory crepe was the best. I got a cappuccino with gingerbread syrup, it was good , a solid cappuccino. The inside is quaint and it's inside an older home so it feels cozy. They had internet and it was stable. Also had good air conditioning (it can get cold!). We had an amazing morning here!! When we first walked up to the cafe, we were kindly created and smiled at by the worker sweeping the stairs. Then when we walked in, both employees said hi to us and had smiles on their faces while doing so. They answered any questions we had, and didn't make us feel rushed to order either. And a plus, the worker who was checking my order out also complimented my necklace, which brightened my day. Overall the staff here is incredibly kind and caring. Once we ordered, both the chai and the crepes came out in a very decent amount of time. We waited a very short amount of time to get the chai, and then we headed upstairs, and they brought the crepes to us at our table! The upstairs area is very cute and we had a nice time talking and enjoying our food, but many people around us were getting work done while enjoying a nice drink. Hidden gem in Sykesville, not too far and worth the visit from Howard County! The location is great in the Sykesville historic district - it has that quaint, old town feel with a railroad nearby and a bunch of small stores. The cafe itself is super cute and cozy, with plenty of seating across 2 levels. Great study or hang out spot! There are so many good options on the menu, and pretty reasonably priced as well. I tried the cinnamon and sugar crepe, which I enjoyed. The girls working said the French toast and banana Nutella were also popular options. My friend tried the chocolate croissant and chai latte, which she gave a 3.5/5. I'd say go for the crepes, which seems to be what they specialize in. Service was excellent. This review could have and should have been better, but I have to rate the entire experience. The coffee was good, but it wasn't better than anything I'd get at any other place. Also, the service bugged me a little. They were nice, but when my order was done, the worker who took my order just got it and put it on the counter in front of the cook. I was standing right there, and the person made no eye contact. They just put it on the counter. I had to ask if it was mine. Seriously, you can't look at me and say, "here's your order?" It wasn't packed, either, so it's not like she was under a lot of pressure. The chocolate croissants tasted great. Mine was definitely better than other cafes. My daughter loved her nutella crepe, too. The upstairs has a lot of room, and it's very cute. I like the decorations. I will likely be back if I'm in the area. I had a mediocre experience here a few years ago, but I just came back for another try, as the crepes are usually delicious (the only reason I didn't give 1 star). This time, the employee taking orders and making drinks was clearly sick (she had a wet cough) and not wearing a mask. Another employee was eating a meal where they make the crepes, over the ingredients station. It took nearly 50 minutes for them to make my single crepe, and a few people who ordered after me had theirs before me. During my wait, the employees had many discussions on whether they had already made XYZ's order or not, and they ended up throwing away 3 separate orders because another employee had already made them. Delightful! We went on a Friday morning in December when schools were out and it was very busy! You order your food and find a table. There is limited seating downstairs but additional seating upstairs and outside. There are so many entertaining items to view and purchase while waiting from humorous sayings on tea towels and Blue Q socks, to funny cards or 100% recyclable cards (they literally have seeds in the paper so you can plant them and they will grow into a variety of spice plants as listed on the back of the card). The food took about 15-20 minutes because of how busy they were but we thoroughly enjoyed reading the hilarious tea towel sayings and socks. I enjoyed their signature Croi'ffle which was a bacon, egg and cheese stuffed croissant pressed into a waffle maker. It must've had 6 full slices of bacon in it!! It was huge and delicious- definitely shareable! The hot apple cider was delicious! My daughter had the Spanish Crepe which was also chopped full of avocados, salsa, eggs and cheddar. She loved it! She also tried the no sugar added peach smoothie and loved it!! I highly recommend checking out this small business! We will go back soon to try their crepes. I had never tried savory crepes before so I was a little nervous except until I came to the French Twist cafe. They sure can crepe right! First of, we walked in and we're greeted with a kind smile and the staff was ready to cater to us. Answered our quick questions and guided us ordering. They have on the house coffee and single origin. Delicious coffee. On to the crepes: the "Italian" crepe was so amazing! Tomato, mozzarella, spinach, olives, pesto. All that goodness inside a thin, savory, crepe. Of course I had to have my Nutella craving and fix up my sweet tooth so you know that's exactly what I ordered for dessert. The hubs and I came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: La Parisienne (walnuts, cranberries, fresh baby spinach, pesto, and a choice of bleu cheese or goat cheese; I opted for the goat cheese); La Canadienne (with egg, crispy bacon, cheddar, and maple syrup); the Crêpe à la banane et au Nutella (with banana slices covered with Nutella); and, the Crêpe aux fruits rouges (with fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and homemade whipped cream). Each of the crêpes were SO GOOD! The batter was perfectly made, and the fillings were generous! All freshly made, as they are made-to-order, and no rips or tears! The crêpe maker seemed to be legit! Game finished by noon on this Sunday,, so a quick Yelp search found coffee and crepes...worth the 10 minute drive from the soccer field Canadian! Good, interesting menu. I am a patient guy- and the gal at the counter had warned us- but it was the price of a low volume, high popukarity resturaunt. Crepes were good. Interesting how you can go to different crepe places and get different style crepes. Isn't there an industry standard? A right way, a wrong way? Either way, it was pretty good. No complaints. Years later, this place has hardly changed which is great. Still great service and food- plus there seems to be more seating options outside. Not sure if this place is dog friendly- I am a servcie dog handler so I would love to see a sign that says "Service Dogs only" if it is for more comfortable access for service dog handlers. The inside is definitely not wheel chair friendly or large medical equipment friendly. There is a ramp going to the entrance but I have a hard time seeing anyone in a wheel chair efficiently enter inside and out. read more

For my first time here I find this a quiet treasure in the middle of no where. I had the Canadian Crepe, it was excellent. Could have used a little more syrup but other than that very tasty. The coffee was also very good for a small Cafe. Pricing was avoid on par for a brunch type place. The place was pretty with a few items for purchase. It is located in downtown Sykesville off Main Street and Oklahoma Avenue. ORDER: * The Canadian - Bacon, Egg, Cheese and Maple Syrup. This was delicious and perfect for breakfast/brunch. The amount of maple syrup was perfect. Not too heavy but just enough to taste. * The Italian - This could be your go to if you're vegetarian. It had baby spinach, tomatoes, cheese, olives (black and green) and pesto sauce. Yummy! If you're not a fan of olives have them hold it. * Banana Nutella - This was the first dessert crepe I have tried that is NOT too sweet. It was perfect. * Iced Cappuccino - Not too sweet and not too bitter either. The smallest size for cold coffee is the 12 oz. I want to try their hot coffee next time. Parking is free behind the restaurant. The restaurant is small and seemed to be popular so you may find yourself having to sit outside or taking your food to go. Worth the wait. We love the French Twist Cafe for the wonderful crepes, great coffee and nice, warm atmosphere. We make it one our usual breakfast spots when shopping in Sykesville or heading to the Southern States for our horse feed and other stuff for our farm. At first I would say the Spaniard and Greek Crepes are wonderful. I have not had the dessert crepes but they look and smell wonderful. Yesterday we went and got the March monthly special of a Ruben crepe. With the corn beef, cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing made a fabulous crepe that had all the great flavors in a Ruben with the added crepe. Please add this crepe to the normally offered crepes. I was so excited to try this place, we drove the hour to Sykesville the day after I came across the listing. I was glad it had a lot of vegetarian options because we invited some vegetarians along. I also noticed their month long special was the "frenchgiving" crepe which seemed like a lot of fun. I love fun twists with traditional Thanksgiving dishes. So I was really ready to enjoy my meal! Unfortunately, it was not worth the drive. The turkey was very dry and had a weird, old, almost rancid, greasy taste to it. The stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy were all fine but there was very little of it. There was maybe 3 tablespoons of stuffing, a drizzle of gravy and a teaspoon of cranberry sauce. There was a few chunks of gross tasting turkey but most of the large crepe was completely empty. The empty crepe was very dry. I didn't eat much and had to come home and make myself lunch. My husband and our dining partners liked their crepes well enough. They were actually filled with food. I don't know why I got a crepe that was barely filled. It's their special all month! I hope it was a fluke but I'm not driving an hour to try again. Also you have to bus your own table but the trash can was near overflowing. You also had to eat off paper plates and use plastic utensils which is super wasteful. Why have that in 2019? It's not a walk up window for a hot dog, it's a sit down restaurant. read more
