We recently had a shared birthday celebration here for our two daughters! We were hoping for a private, affordable, and fun venue to host 60-75 family and friends. We came across the Frenchtown Roller Rink when attending another family event here. You will not find a more turn key or affordable option out there! Kay is a joy to work with. The staff are great! My child had a paintball party scheduled and with one nights notice they cancelled on us . We called the rink and asked if they could let us have a party there the next day . Kay was great and worked with us with virtually no notice and were able to have a great party . The place was clean and so much fun I would recommend this place to everyone. read more

It took my girls to a birthday party here. I probably haven't been here since 1988. I was happy to see it hasn't changed much. Obviously the walls have fresh paint and the rink floor is well maintained - I mean the feel of it. At first I thought it was just nostalgia but after speaking with my girls (11 & 12) I found out they had fun too. I am happy to recommend this place to anyone young or old. Good prices and very friendly staff. Warning: You cannot see it from the road and the town must not let them put up a sign. It is easy to miss - look for the painted rocks! read more

I went here for my niece's 13th birthday and we had a blast! My only complaint would be the small amount time of the "party room" and lack of staff helping. Other then that we enjoyed ourselves. The prices are reasonable and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to get pizza delivery from outside as well! read more

I like the fact that the rink hasn't tried to be super modern. Although I didn't know this place when I was a kid, people tell me it hasn't changed which is nice to see something remain the same. It is clean and pretty well maintained. The music is good. Skates are decent. My biggest complaint is that they only allow skaters to go in one direction the entire time every single day. Any other rink I've been to always switches the direction after 30 mins or an hour. As an adult with not the best knees from years of sports, the constant turning in one direction puts a lot of pressure on one knee and makes the skating experience not enjoyable. I have asked about this and they just say they don't do it. It is disappointing because there is no reason why they can't. It doesn't involve much to tell people to change direction. They are very resistant to the idea and I'd skate more if they did it, but because they don't, they don't get me as a paying customer. I do feel like the woman at the front isn't the friendliest person around. Always feel a bit on edge with her which takes away from the experience. That being said, my child enjoys going there to skate from time to time. The people skating have always been considerate of those learning which is really nice so it's a good place to give a kid a chance to learn. read more

Had a birthday party here for my son. It was the worst party i have had. We have done parties at the Villa rink in washington and always had fun. Fiirst of all for a saturday night the place was empty...we couldnt figure out why. This may not sound like a problem but for a birthday party for a13 year old, picture a bright empty large trailer like space with no one around. The outside of the rink area was dirty. There were chips in the rink floor that the kids kept tripping over. At 8'o clock, the time we were supposed to get our party room we waited for the staff to call our party guests to sit down. They didnt. We waited a bit and went in and found the ice cream melting and thrown on a sticky filthy table. They did not provide all of our guests with ice cream. Could not locate staff for more (a cheesy 50 cent ice cream cup by the way). The music was Horrible. Again,..the party was for a 13 year old boy. They played the hokey pokey and bunny hop and cleared the floor. Now to the staff... An angry unfortunate younger man was one of the floor supervisors. He skated around the rink trying to do tricks for the handful of teenage girls and would fall and crash in front of them. Another rink "cop" we heard screaming at the top of his lungs at 3 very young children...we are talking under 8 years old. He scared my girlfriend and i to death. We could only hope these kids were related to him so he thought he had the right to treat them like dogs. Apparently we were mistaken. Another skater bumped his friend and was immediately ejected and told to sit in a naughty seat for two songs. When his mom tried to sit with him a woman who reminded me of something out of the movie Deliverance charged at her like a pitbull and verbally assaulted her. She, the worker, then ran around screaming at other children who tried to talk to the poor kid in the naughty seat. The scene was disturbing. The staff seemed just generally angry and unhappY and frankly scary. When the rink cop came into the party room and saw asmall popcorn spill on the floor he screamed the "f" word at the children. He then got a broom dragged it across the rink almost knocking people over with it and started angrily sweeping the floor. He was smashing the broom into the kids and the table while doing it..again scary... We could not wait to get out of there. I could not believe that the place is even open and that anyone would everchoose to spend leisure time there. Villa Roller rink in Washington is such a better experience and while small, the huge difference is the staff. The owner is a kind woman who actually (get this!) seems to enjoy being around children and doing her job. The experience at Frenchtown was so horrible i will never allow my children to go there and alert every parent i know to what goes down there. Many parents at this age do the "drop and go thing". I would not suggest this. These people are scary and in my opinion should not be around children. GO TO VILLA. read more

We've gone to this roller rink twice now, and we've had a great time both times. It's so nostalgic and exactly as the roller rinks were that I remember as a kid. Yes, it's a bit dated but it's a roller rink and only a few remain, so I'm fine with that. Parents are admitted free (even if you skate) and we rented skates there. You can choose inline or regular skates. The regular skates look ancient, but hey, they work! They have free skate, do the corners game, limbo, hokey pokey, races etc. My kids were thrilled with all of this and enjoyed their time there. It was pretty busy (Sunday) but everyone was polite and the clientele were all respectful of the less able skaters. There are always a few hot shots going fast, but that's the norm anywhere. Overall, it was a fun day out and my kids are asking to go back. read more

I absolutely love this rink and think it is a treasure! I'm writing this review because I've never had a problem when attending numerous birthday parties there, and I am very surprised to see negative reviews. You see, when a review says one place is bad, that is one thing. But when it says to go to another specific one, that makes me wonder if it is a "plant" for the competition; frankly, there is no way to verify it when just anyone can put up a review, inc I have been there with kids of all ages and adults. The music has been excellent. When I skated for the first time in 30 years and fell, the staff rolled up to me to make sure I was OK. The gentlemen at the window where the kids and I get skates has always been patient and kind. The lady at the door has been very good and patient as well. The rink does not pretend to be a 2017 rink -- it is very much the style I remember skating to in the 1980's, and that makes it fun; the kids enjoy hearing stories of their "old" parents skating "back in the day." There are plenty of benches to sit on when a person wants a little time out or to just watch the kids if they don't want to skate. They take some time out for the kids who want to do races to do a quick race -- always done with lots of supervision and care. There are games on the side where the kids can go for time off the rink. There are tables where you can get food -- not fancy, but there is something even a fussy kid can find. All around, this place is fun, and we are planning to go again for a spring break treat tonight!! read more

Took my daughters and their friends to Roller Skate today; most for the first time. They had a blast especially my daughter who was doing fairly well but needed confidence. Strap on a pair. Of supple aged worn leather boots. Eight wheels will get you grooving. Backward, forwards, works in all directions. Stay away from the inlines. Those are for a generation yet to find their comfort zone. Love the opp to hang out with the kids and the kids and the kids of the kids, chillen and spinnin and bring back some old time memories. my two sons and i have been attending sessions 3-4x a week at frenchtown for months now; we have ventured out to other rinks in nj and pa, but always find ourselves missing french. we have a warm sense of belonging at french, we feel safe in all aspects, the skate guards are aware and caring gentleman who are always helpful and glad to see you as of all the staff. we have made a few friends after some time of warming up to people, it is a blessing. my two sons are now on the frenchtown speed team, loving it! i do not no much of the sport but i must say the coach's and team mates are wonderful! every skate day is an exciting day for us cause we know we are in a place where we are always welcomed and have a wonderful time! thank you all at frenchtown, god bless!!! read more

OMG! I had a very similar experience at the Frenchtown Roller Rink. Although all of what you said is indeed true, my main concern lay with the staff's treatment of their patrons..especially the young vulnerable, impressionable audience. My 10 yr old son was told to sit on the bench for a period of time and when I saw this, I went over to talk to him about why he was benched. The staff saw us standing within 2 feet of the bench and decided to actually scream at us because my son was standing instead of sitting. The guy then proceeded to retrieve the owner/manager? who came flying out of her 'booth' and also began screaming at us that if we didn't obey her rules we could take our skates off and leave! Was the angry screaming really necessary? Couldn't she just calmly discuss with me how important it was for us to obey these absurd rules. She then proceeded to tell us that my son would have to remain seated on the bench for an additional 10 mins. She actually stood right behind us, arms folded and 'stared me down' the entire time. What is wrong with these people? If she is so miserable with this job and/or business shouldn't she look into a new career path? As far as the villa rink, we have also had parties there, and the woman who owns it has been nothing but extremely nice to me and to my children. I do think she enjoys her job, and kids (which should be a requirement!). read more

We went to this rink with low expectations since the reviews around the web are mixed and most of them are dated, but to my delight, my girls -- 8 and 5 -- had a great time. Yes, it feels like the rink (and, in particular, the bathrooms) haven't been updated since 1985, but we had no real complaints. We rented the old-school four wheeler skates and they were in fine condition for rentals. We skated for a couple of hours and enjoyed the hokey pokey, limbo, and other games. We went over the holiday weekend during a 1-4pm window and it was mostly a younger crowd of kids with their parents. I can't speak to the snack bar or small arcade as we avoided both and, frankly, I would have also avoided the bathroom if I could have (for some reason the stalls do not have locks) but it was clean and there was ample soap so we made do. Overall, it was a good escape from the cold weather and I expect we will be back. read more
