Roberto was SUPER nice, talking me through the process of ordering, payment (via Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp), and pickup. My options for yesterday were seven different pupusas: Chicharrón y queso (pork and cheese), Revueltas (mix: pork, beans, cheese), Frijol y queso (beans and cheese), Solo de queso (only cheese), Camarón y queso (shrimp and cheese), Loroco y queso (Loroco and cheese), and Jalapeño y queso (Jalapeño and cheese). My friend doesn't like shrimp, but I ordered 2 of each anyway LOL We shared the rest and ate our fill - with leftovers to spare! I wasn't sure what Loroco was, so I even learned something new... According to preparedcooks.com, Loroco is a green unopened flower bud. It is quite popular for its use in sauces, stews, and soups. The flower comes from a herbaceous vine known as Fernaldia pandurata, and you can find between 8 and 18 flowers on each plant. Loroco has a very distinctive taste. It tastes like most greens but combined with overtones of nuts. It has an earthy-artichoke flavor to accompany the overtones of nuts. The taste of loroco is best described as a cross between squash and mild broccoli. My friend & I were both pleasantly surprised by the light flavor. We were given a fresh & delicious side to top our pupusas with called curtido. According to TastesBetterFromScratch.com, Curtido is a Salvadoran cabbage slaw or relish made with finely shredded cabbage, red onion, carrot, oregano, and vinegar. House of Pupusas makes their curtido with pickled jalapeños instead of onion - delightful! We also were treated to salsa roja, made with tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, and garlic. The salsa roja was thinner than I expected - more like gazpacho than a traditional salsa - but super tasty just the same. I've only got one photo to show you, because we were so busy "oohing", "aahing", and shoveling all the food into our faces - after deciding which pupusa to try first. While this is my first try of pupusas, I recently also tried an arepa for the first time. Arepas are thick pockets of masa and MUCH heavier than a pupusa. I think I prefer a pupusa because you have a more even distribution of filling to "pocket". The only caveat to this amazing place is that there's no eat-in option. They offer takeaway or delivery. I chose to pick up my order so we could enjoy our meal by the Outer Harbor. Other than loud seagulls and a bit of a breeze, we had the BEST food and a wonderful time catching up. I'm excited to see House of Pupusas grow and flourish. Perhaps they'll open a food truck in the near future. If they do, I'll be first in line ready to tackle another order of EVERYTHING.

Although they arrived late due to the truck not being available on time (and because they are coming from Buffalo), they called me to let me know their ETA. They treated my belongings as their own. Jade was so kind to double wrap my medical degree when he realized that it did not have enough protection before placing in the truck. Scott and Jade work very well together and did an efficient and speedy job getting my two bedroom worth of belongings into the truck. They then drove to Pittsburgh same day and unpacked my things into the rooms designated. They had a grueling day which did not finish until 9 pm in Pittsburgh but they were professional and always had a positive attitude. It was a no mayo, but rather oil and vinegar dressed finely chopped mixture of cabbage and green peppers with the delightful addition of celery seed. But back to the sandwiches.... The bread (rye) was fresh..... the lettuce (leaf) was crisp.... the tomatoes ripe. The turkey was high quality real turkey breast with just the right amount of a delightful cranberry mayo. I was interested but not jumping on the train, a year or so later and a new year resolution..... Cooked Buffalo is a meal prep service located in Buffalo, they offer a decent size menu and from I can tell it changes periodically. The menu is available for download on their website and is either breakfast or lunch/dinner. The meals have cute names based upon what their theme is, Thai Tanic, Wakey, Wakey, El Chapo & Ma, the Meatloaf are a few examples. Below each description of the meal the calorie, protein, carb and fat content is listed. Ordering is easy enough, I did it on phone. You simply fill out a form checking a radial button for the number of meals you are ordering and list the names of the meals you want and if an option to include rice or not. Once submitted you get a confirmation email confirming receipt and advising you will be billed shortly. The billing is easy enough too, I received an email shortly from PayPal to simply and easily pay my invoice and BAM, it is done. Delivery was easy enough too, I'm within the 10 mile radius so my delivery is free. I received a text message the night before reminding me and another text letting me know my bag was here, nicely placed on my porch. I've already tried the Wakey, Wakey and damn it was pretty good. I always love a little more salt and pepper but the point of this (trial) for me is to eat better. But I have to say I am pretty satisfied and am looking forward to a week of lunches for the coming week. One thing I wished that had come with my meal was the calorie breakdown in the bag or in the container label and heating instructions but both of those are small compared to what appears to be a great value.
