But what we found was a very clean place of business, really good choices on the menu, an extremely helpful and friendly staff and reasonable prices. I've been coming here for the better part of 2 years and Its time for me to give this spot the review that it deserves... "Fresh From The Garden" is a hidden gem on the outskirts of downtown Jacksonville. This place is hidden so deeply that you might not be able to find it unless you're looking for it. The owners, Charlie and Mary, are the type of couple that remind you what true love really is. They have built a beautiful community within their area that makes you feel like you're in a New York neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. Each day the lines out of the door are made up of so many friendly regulars, but they always make a point to get to know any new faces. The walls of the shop are covered with Polaroid pictures of regular customers, staff from over the years, and friends. You can't beat it. The food is also undeniable...The menu ranges from multiple breakfast items to fresh made salads to American style lunch to a full Greek menu (my favorite item is the lamb gyro). Mary also makes special cakes/desserts each day that will blow your mind. I've never left this place unsatisfied. Working in hospitality for the better part of my life, I learned some very valuable lessons. One of the most important lessons I learned is that sometimes the food isn't what matters. The most important thing is to treat people with kindness and make them feel comfortable. How you make your guests feel will always be more memorable than the discounted "special of the day" (which they have every single day by the way).... Charlie and Mary learned my name after my second visit. They have never let me walk out of the restaurant without asking me about my fiancé. My parents live 8 hours away from Jacksonville, but every time I walk into Fresh From the Garden I feel like family. Thats what's important. Mixed feelings about our lunch. My Greek items were spinach pie and stuffed grape leaves, both of which were very good and well priced. Wife had the chef salad and it was less inspiring than a boxed salad at a grocery store. Very few ingredients, lots of lettuce, dressing poor quality and didn't taste good. So some room for improvement on that item. Can't comment on the sandwiches but they looked like they had a good selection. read more

We ended up here completely by accident. Been back 5 times now! It's decorated so nicely inside. It has a nice outdoor shaded deck as well which is under some trees. Excellent food and prices. The staff is very friendly. I've had breakfast and lunch - both great. Friday (I think) they have pancakes and french toast! I love the Greek Veggie Hummus pita, dolmades, and even the Greek yogurt with honey is better than what I can find at the store. (Mary- what do you use?) Mary and Charlie make you feel like home when you walk in, greeting everyone who has been there before by name. I haven't worked in the area in over 5 years but every time I go back for lunch, I'm greeted by name. The cafe itself is a quaint little spot with plenty of seating. I got the gyro platter with two sides and a drink for just over $9. Very disappointed in the gyro- it was obviously previously frozen and not made it house. Been coming here daily while on a work trip all week long, and I have to say this place is phenominal. This is my second tour in JAX training some folks in the building across the street, so when I came in earlier this week they recognized my face and made me feel at home. I got to meet the owners Charlie and Mary whom have done a stellar job training a staff that really brightens your day. As far as food- ive tried their Gyro, Blackened Chix philly, and today the Cajun Chix sandwich. You truly cannot go wrong with any of these options. They're homemade hummus is made fresh and way better than what you find in grocery stores... i have to go to the farmers market to find quality like this (which i love doing). During the two weeks I had to train in the area for my job, I frequented Fresh From The Garden during my one hour lunch when I didn't feel like having my protein shake that day. Plus, I can also still get something healthy from this restaurant and not break my dieting (LOL). The restaurant is pretty much a small cafe with ample seating indoors and outdoors. They are pretty busy during lunchtime as there are several businesses and offices nearby, but service is very quick. The staff is very friendly and they will address you by your first name (if you're wearing an ID badge). They have cheap lunch deals and there is a lunch special every day. If you want a drink refill, it is advised to donate a few cents, which I think is pretty reasonable. I've had the hot dog combo and the cheeseburger combo. Each came with fries and a drink. The hot dog was ok, it tasted like one of the lower quality dogs that you can get from the store, and their version of a cheese dog was to add shredded cheese (as seen in my photo). The cheeseburger was delicious and the combos are enough for a nice full lunch. Cheap, fast and friendly service. Good variety of cold and hot meals. Very convenient location for those who work in the area. read more

Mom and Pops cafe at its finest. This place is full of freshly prepared items that are prepped, prepared and served by the two owners and a very dedicated staff of a few people. Anytime I go into this establishment, I can expect a smile from everybody working. Everybody there seems to really enjoy their job and takes great pride in creating creating a good product. It seems like each person person working there knows every person that comes into the store and is able to call them by name. They also seem to almost always know exactly what the person is going to order. They have several hundred people come to their doors daily, but they treat you like you're the only customer that they have. All the food is always freshly prepared. You can tell they take their time to select the ingredients so that they can make even a better product to present to the customers. They run lunch specials daily that consists of sandwiches and sides or salads. Although the owners are Greek and fix fantastic Greek food they are not afraid to dip their hands into other ethnic cuisine. read more

And that's too bad cause it's really good. The food at Fresh From the Garden really is...well...fresh. They do breakfast and lunch and normally have a special of the day. Overpriced gyro combo. I am disappointed with what I wound up getting for lunch today. I got a gyro and added side and drink for almost $3 more. It was about the size of a medium drink, but a very skimpy amount of fries. The gyro had very little meat. The pita was soft and chewy and thick. The toppings were just average- shredded lettuce, chunks of tomato (equivalent to 1/4 of a small tomato) and tzaziki sauce was just enough, not too sloppy, not too dry. I wish there was more meat. Overall, if I pay $10 for gyro, fries and a drink, I want to feel like I got my money's worth, I don't. I would usually prefer to skip the fast food chains, but when I came back into my training room and saw people with Arby's cups, I wish I had gone there instead :( I am usually near this place for work trainings, I won't be going back. read more

Hidden gem! Our offices recently moved into the office park where the cafe is tucked inside. I couldn't be happier! Mary, the owner, must be a descendent of Hestia herself! Homemade Greek deliciousness! Dolmades, Yogurt, Spanakopita and the Gyro (just to name a few) and more to try. She also has breakfast and American cuisine (which I haven't tried yet). This place is a hidden gem. It is open Monday through Friday only 7:30 -3:00. It is self service style, order at counter and then pick up from the kitchen window when ready. This service style usually doesn't suit me but the food is ready so quickly it works well here. The staff are very friendly and polite. They are hidden in the bottom floor of an office building which serves several other buildings nearby. The inside dining area is a smaller size but there is sufficient outdoor seating.
