The spinach pie is the perfect appetizer and it comes with a side of tzatziki sauce to dip it in. The baba ganoush was too smoky for me but the pita was soft and tasty. The kiftah was my favorite dish. It's like a thin meatloaf that's well seasoned and moist. It comes on a delicious bed of Mediterranean rice with peas and onions. Will definitely be back!! read more

This is a restaurant where you order at the front and they bring your food to you. The soda fountain is there as well. Nice clean, casual dining and the service was really good. We were super close to not going here for lunch because the parking is horrible (not their fault!) but I'm SO glad we got lucky with a parking spot and were able to go. Food is delicious. It is an order at the counter style place where they bring the food to you, which we weren't expecting, but service was great! The food was absolutely amazing. I was making candles next door in this little plaza and saw this place. Always like a good gyro, so I decided to give em a try. Small cozy restaurant with limited seating for large parties. The decor was rustic and as soon as you walk in your greeted with a warm welcome. I ordered the Gyro platter and hummus. The hummus was good a little more sour than usual but I liked it. The gyro platter came out looking gorgeous. I happily wolfed it down and before I left had a Turkish coffee with baklava to finish. Good lunch! read more

Finally found my go-to Mediterranean spot in Mandarin! The Chicken Shawarma was incredibly tender and seasoned perfectly, but the Hummus with Steak was the real star--so creamy and fresh. You can tell they use authentic family recipes. The portions are huge (I had enough for lunch the next day) and the staff makes you feel like a guest in their home. We don't eat mediterranean food often, but when we do we always remember how much we love it. On our way to a yelp event we found this place tucked in a strip mall in San Marco. When we walked in we were greeted immediatley, asked if it was our first time in and were given the lay of the land so to speak. We took menus to a booth, decided what to order then went to the counter to order. My wife ordered the kabaobs, 2 chicken and 2 beef so there was plenty of food and enough for lunch. She has a severe allergy to bell peppers and the gentleman at the counter made sure the cooks understood the importance of cleaning the grill, changing gloves and getting new tongs. This was really going above and beyond. I ordered the gyro platter and we added stuffed grape leaves. We went back to the booth and everything was full service from there. The building itself is a little dated but the booths were comfortable and there was plenty of room to move around as needed. Our food arrived and was excellent. Her kabob dinner came with mediterranean potato salad and tabouleh, on a bed of rice. There was no way she would eat it all, but now she has lunch tomorrow. I tried her tabouleh and it was very good. She said everything she ate was very good. The grape leaves were the best I have eaten. Sometimes they have to much vinegar or something that is very bold that takes away from the grape leave. Whatever that is could be tasted in these as a compliment, but the focus was on the leaves and the filling inside. My gyro platter came with mediterranean potato salad and baba ghanoush. There were 6 or 7 big slices of gyro meat on a bed of rice with peppers and onions and plenty of taziki on the side. They told us that the taziki was made in house and was extra creamy. The gyro required a knife to cut but was tender to chew and very tasty. baba ghanoush was new to me. It is like humus but made with smoked eggplant instead of chic peas. It might have been my favorite part. I did not really like the potato salad. It was not bad, just not my thing. It was cold, but not creamy. I think the base is olive oil. Next time I will order the tabouleh instead. This place is family run and they really take pride in what they do. read more

I love Mediterranean food and The Olive Tree is a solid fast Mediterranean spot. If you're looking for a quick dish, diner style this is your place. The tabbouleh and tzatziki was watery, like it had sat a while. Rice was obviously made in bulk and sat all day, it was over cooked. Flavors were ok. Solid Middle Eastern food spot for lunch and possibly dinner, but it is close to my office so for me it is only lunch. It is located in a strip center in the San Marco area of Jacksonville with ample parking in a private lot. At first I was taken back by the small portions, especially looking at the size of the grape leaves, but guess what, they were delicious. When I got over the size issue I was impressed with the flavors. So the food: Hummus - really tasty, my favorite. Rice - another good dish full of flavor Falafel - it is not my favorite food, but this was well cooked and spiced. Grape leaves - mini size, but so good. Spinach Pie - maybe not recognizable at first, but another solid flavor. If it just was not so tiny. As you can tell, I was impressed with the flavors but not impressed with the portion sizes, but for me it tasted better than canned grape leaves and packaged food. I came here for lunch not too long ago and really enjoyed the experience. This is a pretty small restaurant and I got there right around noon. I was surprised that we were able to find a table to sit at! Almost every table was occupied which to me always indicates a good restaurant. Upon entering, you head to the counter on the right-hand side of the restaurant to order, take a table number sign, and then find somewhere to eat. I was pleased that the food was served within 5-10 min of ordering which makes this an easy place to have lunch in under an hour. I ordered the falafel but received an order of grape leaves instead. The staff promptly fixed the mistake and brought the order of falafel which were delicious! I also ordered the greek salad with gyro. It was was good! The salad very very hearty with a generous serving of veggies, pita bread, and gyro. I'm looking forward to going back here for lunch again soon. read more

We came across this place while visiting this side of town. We are glad we did. You order when you walk on. The drinks are self serve. The service here is exceptional. They check on you at your table occasionally to make sure you have everything you need. My combination platter was much bigger than I expected. I chose to have two sides. The sides I had are my must have tabouli and grape leaves. They both filled me up before I got to the main plate. The assortment of meats on top of rice on the main plate was overwhelming. I had to take it home for dinner. I barely could eat the remaining parts for dinner. This is a must try place. Only flaw is menu is bit price and they DO NOT have a military discount. read more

I wouldn't have left a comment if i wasn't mislead when i came in. A friend invited me to lunch here and I was surprised to see vegetarian grape leaves on the menu, as no one makes these in house. When ordering, I asked the young woman if they are made fresh in house and she said they were. I ordered a veggie falafel platter and INSTANTLY recognized the grape leaves were out of a can. The falafel is nearly certainly frozen, as the texture is a blended texture, the kibbeh im 99% sure is frozen, pita is never made in house, i can understand that. I found the whole meal just a collection of prepackaged food heated up to serve. Also a big THANK YOU to the young woman at the counter who watched me order a veggie platter, knowing the platter comes with falafel, hummus and grape leaves + 2 sides, then said nothing as I chose hummus and grape leaves as my side. My face when I noticed two orders of hummus and two "fresh" canned grape leaves made everyone at the table giggle. I appreciate you not interjecting a friendly "are you sure you want two of everything?" All and all an embarrassing and shameful meal and experience. Far from authentic, borderline criminal. I coulda gone to Publix ethnic foods aisle and made this meal with a can opener and a microwave. If I wasn't lied to at the counter, I would have ordered something else and maybe been pleased. I passed this establishment multiple times over a few years but never thought of going in. Sometime 2 weeks ago, my friends wanted to try a new place to us. We made a plan to go here and my friends were going to make a reservation. To my surprise, no reservations needed. It's a very casual place that almost had a fast food feel. You pick your table and order at the counter. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was "wow".... yes, it was "wow". I was not expecting this place to be soo good. All the years lost lol. I was pleasantly surprised with how juicy and tender my chicken was. That chicken was cooked to perfection! For me, it's always a hit or miss with chicken... nothing is worse than overcooked chicken shawarma. I also had grape leaves here. Not too fan of the texture of the grape leaves that I ordered. They were overdone. I felt like I was eating squished eggplant even though I knew it was rice inside the grape leaves. I can't think of a better description. Overall, they've got my two thumbs up!
