Place was huge and many seats open again being there at 9am. Majority of the plugs are on one side of the wall but honestly wasn't really looking for one just noticed it. I am a snob. I admit it. The Washington-Oregon I-5 Coffee Zone sets a high bar that the rest of the US cannot possibly meet. Sorry-not-sorry, we rule, deal with it. So how did a Seattle or Portland quality coffee shop end up in Crystal Lake? I don't know and I don't care. This place is the real deal. Good product, good baristas, some innovative twists (think ube white chocolate mocha as one of the current specials), this place would perform well up and down the I-5 corridor. They are LGBTQ+ friendly. That's not necessarily common in this area, so kudos to them. Again, a good fit along much of the I-5 corridor. But, of course, I can't take them back home. I stopped by for a chai whilst in Crystal Lake. It was a nice surprise that they have a drive through, which is a huge help when driving around with a small child. Their chai is seriously good. To some extent I wish they were closer so I could have a taste a bit more often--but I'm not driving up to Palatine (which is the closest location). But... they're kind of expensive so maybe I wouldn't visit that often anyway. Or the large is, anyway--it was $9 for a large chai. And it was a weird price jump, because the price of a small to medium is a 65 cent increase, and from medium to large is almost $1.50... that seems very odd. Conscious Cup is a favorite coffee spot of mine so I was excited to be driving past the Crystal Lake location. This was the only spot of theirs I've been to with a drive through! I wasn't super impressed with the May specials so I got the Med Sweet Honey Bee and a breakfast sandwich. This ended up being $18! There was a courteous note at the register that their prices have recently increase for certain reasons but their items were already a premium cost compared to other places in the burbs. I love their coffee and syrup quality, their food is tasty ; but this may be more of a "special treat" now than an all the time visit. read more

Honestly Conscious Cup roasts are the best in McHenry County but I'm giving this site a low score for quality. The other sites are consistently better. I often notice this site will have fewer people behind the counter even though they run a drive thru. Its consistency is poor at best for dine in but the recipes are generally there and fine for drive thru but if I'm going to sit... I'd recommend Barrington or any of their other sites with better baristas that aren't competing with the drive thru.. this spot will stay as my drive thru drip coffee on the go though.... But for work meetings I'll stick with Barrington. read more

I have been a customer of conscious cup since 2015. The food and coffee is great and the employees are always kind and helpful, the reason why I unfortunately have three stars is because I am very unimpressed with how management treats their employees. I in the past have heard shift managers heavily gossip about their employees. I have seen employees being treated unfairly and have overheard discussions that make me wonder if an HR department exists. I have seen employees berated for simple mistakes, I have never seen so much nitpicking. Employees I have loved being served from have been terminated for seemingly no reason. It has seemed to Improve since the shop manager has changed in the last two years. I hope for the best for the baristas, whatever they are making they deserve more! read more

This is a review I wasn't excited to write about because I really like supporting local. The stars should be less, but I am hoping this is just a short term negative. I've gotten sick from food here twice. I guess it could have been from the coffee drink, but not as likely. The reason I know it was from their food was both times I ordered the same thing and it was two weeks apart, and hadn't eaten anything else before or after for hours. To add onto why I'm giving 3 stars is because there is one particular Barista who has such an attitude. I've been unfortunate to get him almost every time out of the six times I've come here to this location. I thought maybe it was me, but I see the way he treats other patrons when they order so it's across the board. Sometimes people need help figuring out what is in a drink. Just be nice and help them. Don't make them feel dumb by rolling your eyes or giving short answers. This is Crystal Lake, not New York City! The rest of the baristas have been lovely. Otherwise the location is nice. Decent amount of parking and cute interior with lots of Lounge seating. If you use the drive through, give yourself and the baristas time. read more

You can't go wrong with anything here. I have made this into a usual stop for a pick me up when I am out this way for work. The coffee does exactly what it needs to without being over powering and giving the shakes. It is also so full of flavor that you forget for a second that it is a cup of coffee and not a milkshake. They also offer food and sweet treats. Their cookies are phenomenal they crumble into delectable bites. Just firm enough to hold bite size pieces. I have also gotten there Seventh Heaven, which transports you to the land of the living early in the morning. They also offer coffee beans from varying locations. Highly recommended. read more

First of all, we've been here for at least 10 years. Followed them from the old location to the new. I understand that Covid has hit us all, but lately your coffee has been going downhill. Today we ordered a simple dark roast, iced coffee and kids chocolate milk. The dark roast was fine. I asked for light cream and caramel in my iced coffee and I didn't receive any flavor, barely any cream and the coffee tastes burnt. Lastly my kids chocolate milk was $3 and it was from Costco. We repeated our order twice and it still got messed up. We really want to keep supporting small businesses, but it's really hard when it's always wrong or tastes bad. read more

I have come here twice now both times about 6am (when they open) and ordered a Matcha Latte unsweetened. Each time has been a great experience using their drive thru. You can clearly hear the other person on the end, both times they have been chipper and friendly. It may take a moment to wait at the window but its fresh and hot, and for the price it isn't bad. When we went there the staff seemed short handed, granted it was two days after Christmas, and the girl who made our drink was an apprentice. I knew Bc they were loudly talking while they were making our drink. Don't be fooled by the cute design on my matcha tea latte--it tasted thin and powdery due to the lack of milk. In addition, I paid extra for a lavender sweetener to be added and that was definitely missing from the drink. Now I can walk to the new monster Starbucks on Michigan Ave, (3 stories), but it's not C/C. I think if C/C opened next door to them, people would go there instead. It's a really cute place. We stopped in a few months ago to meet a friend for coffee and a chat. It's not a terrible big place, and it doesn't get all that loud so it's a prefect place to meet for a cup of fresh coffee and relax. I've been purchasing bulk coffee from Conscious Cup for years. I really enjoy the flavors and supporting a local business. However, they've really let me down lately. They've not quite figured out the punch card/no punch card system. The customer service has been lacking quite a bit, having been charged incorrectly more than once. Most recently after waiting in line about ten minutes to place our order, we waited another ten before getting the associate's attention, frustrated because we noticed other orders were being fulfilled before our beans were ground. For 3 weeks in a row I've ordered an egg and ham sandwich with gluten free bread and received multiple variations: WITH cheese even when "no cheese is written on the bag (which doesn't help people with dairy intolerances). With BACON?? Even though the bag has "Ham" written on it With regular bread (not gluten free) This is a regular menu item...
