Marufuji does carry a lot of Japanese imported items you cannot find at other stores in the area, and I think it's a great addition to Tysons. All of the employees are so friendly too, I love stopping by just to browse the new stuff they get in every once in awhile. It absolutely is pricey, since it's a very small specialty grocery store. The produce they carry is fresh, but the markup is quite high. You're likely not going to come here for your regular weekday grocery haul. When I shop here I always make sure I'm shopping deals/sales, otherwise I come here for the meat. They have the best quality A5 wagyu and kurobuta pork. Again it's pricey, but even full price it's worth it for the insane marbling. I did manage to catch their wagyu on a sale where it was $80/lb which was a pretty cool find. I'm also personally a sucker for the gachapon machines at the front of the store (which rotate semi-regularly).

I originally stopped in after reading on Yelp that the owner makes her own kimchi and lumpia and I'm so glad I did. The woman at the front was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, answering all my questions about the different products in the store. I found the kimchi and lumpia right away and ended up walking out with four bags of groceries, that's how good her selection is. From baked goods to sauces to snacks, everything was great. She also carries some fantastic teas, but I'm keeping my favorite a secret because her prices are better than anything I've found online and I'm not taking the risk of it being sold out next time! Overall, this place is a wonderful local market that's absolutely worth a visit. I'll definitely be back (over and over again).

I got a Haldiram's vegetarian paneer entree ($4.03), horse gram (assorted seeds, $7.56), Himalayan yak cheese ($14.13), dry figs ($8.07), two Kit Kats ($4.02), aloo bhujia (spicy bread sticks or noodles, $4.94), Thums Up soda ($2.01), current achan sticks ($1.00), and a Barashinghe beer (11 oz., $3.70). I stood there waiting while multiple employees looked right past me and never acknowledged me. It honestly felt like I was invisible. A simple "We'll be with you in a minute" would have gone a long way, but instead I was completely ignored. Eventually I got my coconut water, but by then the experience had already been ruined. Good customer service doesn't cost anything, and customers shouldn't have to work just to get someone's attention. I won't be coming back unless they start treating people with more respect.
