I wanted to like my chicken Parmesan entree that I got but sadly it just wasn't good. The Italian Place is located on Wythe Street. There is limited parking in front of the restaurant. The chicken texture was off and even though it was covered in sauce there was no crispyness to the chicken. I ended up just eating the noodles and got rid of the chicken. Friendly Staff with easy to read menu, stand-up coolers with salads, Gelato and other deserts, drinks. We went with subs, a chicken parm for me and not a 100% sure which one the wife went with. I was disappointed, I was excited as I loved how it was wrapped up (felt old-school), but both of the subs came up short of expectations. The espresso machine was not working well. It was the weakest cup of espresso I've ever had. I think you need to take the sign down for the best Italian coffee. I did ask for an extra shot of espresso and the individuals in the shop. I don't think knew how to run the espresso machine cause even with an extra shot. It was very weak. I need to give this place another visit because I don't think I got a true representation of this places potential. I've passed by it so many times and always wondered how good it was, so today was the day. I ordered a chicken Parm sandwich, with arugula and no mayo, no hot pepper spread, and no banana peppers. I was underwhelmed. Perhaps by excluding those items I drastically altered the identity of the sandwich. I doubt it though, I mean, the base of the sandwich should be the defining part, and not the additional toppings right? And this is me assuming that those ingredients are actually standard issue with the sandwich, I could have just clicked buttons that I didnt need to. There was not real flavor to the chicken. That, and there wasn't much parm sauce either. Not that I needed it dripping in parm, but more would have been great. Also, the bread wasnt my fav either. Perhaps if they toasted it with butter that might have made it better...i also realize that perhaps had in gotten the mayo they may have toasted the bread with that. But I hate mayo so, no. I do give them accolades for how they wrapped the sandwich. Had i ordered extra parm I am totally confident that it would have been well contained in the way they wrapped it. I stopped by this Italian Place to see how it compared to my favorite Old Town Deli shops: Slater's Market and Eddie's Deli. Extremely disappointed with the quality of their sandwich I received for lunch. I stopped here earlier today and ordered their first sandwich on their menu (The Eva?). I asked the attendant if I had a choice of bread, and was told there wasn't any variety except for their sub roll. I said OK and proceeded with that. The attendant was very polite and the sandwich came out within 2 mins and therein lies the issue. The roll/bread was stale and tasted as if it was at least a few days old (aka not fresh!!!). The lettuce that I was supposed to get looked like very random leaves slapped together on a sub. The sandwich had zero seasoning. There wasn't any Mayo or mustard to go with it. Needless to say, I only ate one third of the 6 inch sub (cost me $11.00!!!') and tossed the rest! I have to give one star for awesome branding/marketing and a very kind attendant though. A small Italian spot next to a gas station in Old Town. I tried their Soprano (Chicken Parm sub) and the mini cannolis and was definitely pleased with the quality of the food. It is a grab and go kinda spot, not much in terms of seating and parking in the area in general is challenging. Staff happen to be busy on a Sunday afternoon when I stopped in for a quick lunch. Food is good, but the workers don't give a heck about customer service. I called several times today, to put an order in. No one answered, I thought it was either closed, or extremely busy. It was open, no customers, just a couple of workers laughing and joking around. I said I tried to call to put an order in because I have to go to work. She said we don't speak English, and pointed for me to put order in kiosk. Each time I have ever ordered from this place, it was with via, phone, walk-in, suddenly in this very small place you. Any ring me up for one item, I gotta use the kiosk. Been coming to this place for years. Says it's Italian, but I don't even see the originals anymore. So if this under new management, and, or going to be Latin infused, update the business information on the web. Horrible service. Needless to Say, I just walked out.. they could care or less, if that is the case... I can take my business to another establishment. They have gotten sloppy about how they are managing customer service. This isn't my first hiccup with this business, but I know folks have off days, but if these youngsters don't care about the adult establishment, they should not be up front with customers. Used a groupon and it was very smooth. We ordered two pepperoni pizzas for carry out. The instructions said you have to email to place an order using a groupon so called to double check. I found out that you can actually redeem in person or over the phone too. The lady on the phone was very friendly. They were nice in person as well. There's a kiosk in front of the restaurant for ordering and a walk up window as well. You could smell the pizza coming out of the building! It was decently busy for a Saturday lunch and the food came out quickly (about 10 minutes). Pizza was good. The sauce is on the sweeter side. It's thin crust. Overall good pizza for the price! Never again. Just picked up two large subs for lunch which cost $32 with tax. The bread was the worst thing I've ever eaten - this is the most disappointing sub. Three slices of meat laid flat provide no flavor or texture, and there were hot pepper stems on my sub which shows a lack of attention to detail. They seem to have closed the market as well so you can no longer go inside to browse or order, you must order from a kiosk and wait outside to be called. I'd leave zero starts for the "experience" if I could. The Italian Place seems more like a gimmick of a profit machine, than a welcoming deli & market as they say in their name. I'll be making the drive a bit further up to Arlington for The Italian Store where the subs have actual flavor and cost less. read more

Overall, everything was yummy but I keep coming back to the prices. For $10 I was expecting a decent size sub, not a half. One of my favorite places to grab an authentic Italian deli! This lovely shop is closeby to Trader Joe's, so it's a great place to go before or after grocery shopping. They have a few spots for outdoor seating as well, or you can take your sandwich to the waterfront :) Ever since COVID, they've had a great set-up to order and/or pick-up. I've noticed it's always had a fairly longer line ever since COVID-19, so I would suggest ordering ahead for pick-up. You can either call or order online. In regards to food, I think this is one of the better deli places in Northern Virginia. Their bread is delicious, and I like to order The Supreme. It's no longer on their menu, but if you ask for it, they know how to make it. It consists of mozzarella, prosciutto, and lettuce. Yumm! Their pasta salad is also very good. It has tomatoes and arugula, and a nice touch of simple seasoning with olive oil. The one thing I would not recommend getting is their nitro coffee. On Wednesday, 29 September 2021, at approximately 1:25 pm, I was eating my sandwich and sipping my iced coffee right outside the restaurant on the patio furniture. My 3 yr old daughter tipped my coffee on the corner of the table and the lid pops off. I barely drank the coffee because I was more hungry. 90% of the cup spills on the table and ground. Their Italian Sub was good. Crunch French bread, good meat, fresh veggies and not too overwhelming on the dressing, which prevents the bread from getting soggy. The pasta salad could have used a little more salt, as it was a tad bland. But overall not a bad place to grab a sandwich. read more

They're just okay and I've felt a little disappointed each time given that "Italian" is in the name. Nothing special about the meats, and my most recent sandwich mostly just tasted of the hot pepper spread. I was saddened that I had to pick up from a person less window. It wasn't clear where to go and I tried both doors. There was a server waiting on two guests that were sitting out on a small patio and she didn't acknowledge my presence at all. Finally I saw two bags sitting in a window. I yelled into the window.., hello....and a female associate came by and acknowledged me finally. She was nervous because her English was broken.
