Friar Tuck's used to have excellent food. What happened? French onion soup tasted like a can of broth. Turkey sandwich had turkey, lettuce, tomato and a container of mayo on the side. Very bland. Even the carrot and celery stick were old and dried out. read more

Dear Friar Tuck's Regulars: Thank you for giving up your watering hole for one week in July every year, yet keeping the lights on (however dim they may be) and paying the bills for the other 51 weeks a year. FT is an annual tradition for pilots and a welcome oasis from the justle and bustle of EAA AirVenture. Food is decent, drinks are cheap, and a great place to chill and chat with the bartenders. To me, it's as much part of Oshkosh as watching planes endlessly fly loops. read more

We were NOT there at air show time. But the above comments re: the bill of fare, the quality, and the XLNT service, were right on. Roast beef sandwich on your choice of abt. 6 different breads (I had sourdough): Very good. Waitress was knowledgeable, prompt, and attentive to our needs. She recommended having only 1/2 piece of carrot cake, and that was still a big serving. My companions split a chocolate cake serving, and again, both halves were generous. She recommended against the cheesecake--how often does a wait-person do that?? Next time we're in Osh-burg and need a quick, informal meal, but not fast food, you can bet we'll know where to go! read more

I'm another Yelper who comes here during the annual EAA AirVenture. The bar food is above par and they have a good selection of drinks. If you fly in to the airshow you can pick up a bus that will take you here. It was always bustling but the servers and bartenders did a decent job at keeping up with it. read more

Best Rueben I have had in my life, the waitresses were great and I will eat here every time I'm in town.

Had a few bad experiences, especially with a certain waitress, but the food is so good and the enviroment is nice. So i keep going back!

Would give zero stars if possible. My dad, 2 brothers, and I went here for lunch one day. My brother ordered a burger with bacon on it. It came out with a long piece of hair wrapped around one of the slices. We informed the waitress who took his plate back to get him a new one. Less than a minute later she came back with a "new" plate. She said the cook just swapped for another burger on the grill already. Really? Because the same piece of hair was still wrapped around the slice of bacon. Disgusting. She then offered to have them make another plate again and maybe 6-7 min later he had a new plate. Needless to say he didn't eat it and it was hard for the rest of my family to eat our meals too. I would highly recommend finding somewhere else to eat. read more

I got out of work in Oshkosh early and my husband told me to go South and pick up Friar Tuck's after I was done in Oshkosh and then come home in Neenah. I was working off of Hwy 21. After arriving at Friar Tucks, prior to entering, my husband called me and stated he was unable to reach Friar Tucks and place our order due to the phone being busy. When I walked in, I let the workers know that perhaps they had inadvertently left the phone off the hook. The workers responded "somone is on a business call" I stated that it's too bad as my husband was trying to place an order and now I would have to wait. One worker chimed in "well it's out of the boss' hands if he has to handle a business call". I retorted, well it's poor customer service. I guess me "the customer" was wrong! Good food. Even good service although it was super busy. Had the sirloin club. Was epic.

Have given Friar Tucks a try twice now and had a bad experience each time. It was one of those "should I go to the bar to get a refill" kind of places because the service was so spotty. My food was incredibly bland. I got a chicken bacon wrap and the chicken was not seasoned/marinated at all. Very bland. This is unfortunate because it could be a really neat place. read more

This was a great find! A fine old style pub atmosphere, with a great sandwich menu and good prices. The prime rib sandwich was perfect! And, as an added bonus, when I ordered my beer, I got TWO! (Now THAT is a Happy Hour!) Not a large selection of beer, but a quality one. The staff was nice. However, I did find the attire a bit weird. The waitresses wear skimpy frocks that seemingly emulate a friar's robes. I went at dinner time and it was not too busy (though, I suspect that in warmer weather that is not the case!) read more

I used to love Friar's tucks when I first moved to Wisconsin 7 years ago. It was fantastic. Now 7 years later, it's just okay. I don't have bad meals there, but the service is average, price has only gone up a small amount, but portions have gone down. Quality of food is still great. The very dark restaurant makes for an annoying experience during a sunny day, after sitting in there for an hour+ and you would outside to bright sunlight it can be quite the eye-sore. So now, the restaurant is still good, but has lost it's appeal slightly. I'll still eat their from time to time. Some people say it's average sandwiches you can get anywhere.. That is a load of rubbish. While you can get the same format/ingredients on a sandwich elsewhere, the quality and flavor is not the same. Friars is good stuff. Getting a Reuben from Arby's just down the road...ha what a joke, not even remotely as good in terms of quality or flavor. Overall Friar's is a good place, definitely not bad. Host/Hostesses need to work on service. Maybe some slight changes to menu options and choices or bring in some new things. I think in 7 years they still have almost the exact same menu/choices. Which is good if you have favorites, but bad if you want change, new options etc. read more

Disappointed in Friar Tuck's last week. The waitress did not know the menu, but her personality was terrific. Food was just average, carrots were old, but the bread and the meat was top notch. I think the restaurant could use either a good cleaning or a renovation. read more

Food was good, typical sandwiches you can get almost at every restaurant. However, the chili was really good! Service was alright. We stopped here around 2, barely any other customers, and the service was slow. I probably won't be back for a while, nothing spectacular. read more

Like stepping back thirty years. The waitstaff dressed in monk regalia and the facility is dark and decked out to look like a 60's version of a TV monastery or German restaurant. Most of the fair is a la carte sandwiches which are very reasonably priced. I had the little John, a sandwich that could only exist on a menu as classic as Friar Tuck's. Imagine a foot long grilled sourdough baguette that is topped with melted cheese, a foot long Salisbury streak and mushrooms. Overall the food is good, but not great. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a hearty sandwich and some nostalgic atmosphere. read more

Best bartenders anywhere making the best drinks for a great price. Food is mainly sandwiches but they are very tasty and Friday's fish fry is one of the best. We live nearby and go to Friars often. Wish the owner would update the décor, etc., but he's got top notch people working there. read more

I Go to this place every year during the show. Always a laugh to bring new people in to see the Dark, and I mean dark bar with leather arm pad still on the edge. Cant imagine why its so dark, they have at least 7 small candles dimly flickering on the wall? It screams 70s to the point of being funny. We were served in plastic cups and we were looking at 100 clean glasses. Mind you we were here to keep the party going, they said that they are so busy that they couldn't possibly be able to wash them all. (There were 10 people in the place) The food will stop any thoughts you may have of being a bad place. The club sandwich is the best I have ever eaten and our group had the same to say about the burgers, soups, steak sandwiches ect. Do not go here to order a salad or any healthy food. drinks are fine and the girls behind the bar were great! 3 of us closed the bar 2 nights in a row. We are already planning our trip next year to include the Tuck!! read more

This place has great sandwiches! It's a little dark in there, but the food makes it worth the 'medieval times feel'!

We were looking for a convenient spot just off of Hwy 41 that served food and cocktails when we happened to stumble on Friar Tuck's. Not only did they meet our needs they exceeded them. The bartender was friendly and very effecient. The food was excellent. They cheerfully accomodated our group of 7 and we may not have been the quietest group, but they took it all in stride with a smile. We will be back the next time we are in the area! read more
