We had a difficult time finding the entrance (there was a truck blocking the signage--I'm assuming it was the owner's because they were unloading). We walked in and had to ask if they were open as we weren't immediately greeted. We got to choose our seats and tried to find the coolest spot because it was hot inside! According to the server--their ac was broken. It reminded us of traveling to Mexico and eating at the restaurants there . The decor is very similar and authentic to restaurants in Mexico. They even had lots of the candies found there surrounding their register area. The server was super friendly and attentive once we were seated, I just wish she would've written down our order instead of trying to take it all by memory as she got some things wrong with our order. Now onto the food. Mexican food in Hawaii is nothing to write home about. This was no exception. Our family of 4 ordered: the California Burrito, the super burrito (I actually ordered the chimichanga but it came out as a burrito), Birria tacos, Birria quesadilla, a bean and cheese burrito (the hubby's favorite thing to order at a Mexican restaurant) and because it was taco Tuesday--the carne asada street tacos (which I think the server forgot because we had to remind her) and the flan for dessert. The burritos were of good size and nicely filled. I enjoyed the super burrito but it needed the red sauce that was put on the table. The shrimp inside was very flavorful. My daughter loved her California burrito (it has French fries in it--lol). The birria was delicious--the consommé was pretty bland though. The bean and cheese burrito was cold in the middle and not as generously sized as the other burritos. The best thing that we had was the flan. I love flan and the texture of theirs was amazing. The sauce was a mixed review with the family. I liked it and the fact that there was a lot of it. There was a slight fridge taste but it was still delicious. My husband tried to make a suggestion about moving the large truck that was in front of the restaurant blocking the breeze from coming (remember the broken AC...and this is a hot August afternoon) but upon telling our server he felt dismissed. He was told that the AC was broken and supposedly to be fixed soon, but she didn't acknowledge his suggestion to move the vehicle to let some air in--it's disappointing that when a customer that takes the time to provide genuine feedback to be left feeling dismissed instead of appreciation for the feedback. We were excited to try this place after reading the Yelp reviews and craving Mexican food. I don't usually leave negative reviews because I know restaurants can have an off day, so I try to give them the benefit of the doubt. We're also not people who only enjoy fancy restaurants--we're just as happy grabbing musubi from 7-Eleven or pork hash from the Manapua Man. Good food is good food, regardless of where it's from. We placed an online order for pickup, and the first item we opened was the carne asada plate. Right away, everything looked very dry. The meat was tough and chewy, and the rice was clumpy and dry, almost as if it had been sitting out for a while. It wasn't a great first impression. The biggest disappointment, though, was the tres leches cake. We love tres leches and order it whenever we get the chance, whether it's from a restaurant, farmers market, or a local home baker. We ordered two slices. After one bite of the first slice, it had a distinctly sour taste that reminded us of spoiled milk, so we stopped eating it immediately. Before trying the second slice, we smelled it first, and it had the same spoiled milk smell. To make sure we weren't imagining it, we brought both slices to family members, and everyone agreed that they smelled like spoiled milk. At that point, we no longer felt comfortable eating the rest of our order. Although the horchata tasted fine, we ended up throwing everything away because we had lost confidence after the dessert experience. I can only speak on our experience, but unfortunately it was a very disappointing one. I understand that not every meal will be perfect, but serving a dessert that smelled and tasted spoiled was concerning. We came here on a whim since we have patronized the other location in Ewa Beach. We came on a Sunday around 1 PM. There was only one other person in line with two customers eating. By the time we ordered there was a line out the door. It looks like they have their regular customers. My only complaint is the length of time before you get your food. Not sure if they were shortstaffed or it's normally like that but it seemed like an unusual amount of time we had to wait. They do have an outdoor area that they opened up for seating due to the amount of customers coming in. With that being said, the food was extremely delicious and flavorful. We will definitely come again but not if we are super starving and have to wait extremely long like 20 to 25 minutes. We'll be better prepared next time! Lots of parking friendly service on a weekday night. I ordered a beef tongue chimichanga and my partner ordered the veggie burrito plate for dine in. This place never disappoints! That beef tongue was melt in your mouth, amazing! There are four tables inside so not a ton of space but cozy and convenient enough if you want to eat your meal fresh. Let me start off by saying that, I love Mexican food, and what I got today, definitely was not Mexican food. When Frida's first opened, their food was great, that is not the case today. For starters, I got two plates of the Chile rellenos, and one plate of the 3 tacos on corn tortillas. The Chile rellenos was very salty, had no taste other than the salt, no sauce for it at all like a typical Chile rellenos is supposed to have, food was cold, not even warm, the beans tasted like it was straight out of a can, and the rice, despite having less than needed to kill the salt from the Chile rellenos, was probably the only thing that was decent, even if it was lackluster at best The 3 taco plate I got was a mix of carne asada and El pastor on corn tortillas, there was nothing redeeming on this plate, the tortillas was like biting into rubber, the meat was flavorless and cold, the beans and rice were of the same poor quality like the Chile rellenos plate, except the tacos came with what I'm assuming is supposed to be salsa, the green salsa tasted like water with a hint of avocado flavor, and the red sauce tasted like water with a hint of what I guess is supposed to be something spicy, it was not.... Needless to say, I will not be returning to Frida's any time soon due to such poor quality food that does not match the price you're paying for it, if I'm paying $50+ for 3 plates of food, it better taste like it's worth the price they are charging for such little food, do yourself a favor and go taco bell, at least taco bell is consistent read more

Tried Frida Taqueria for the first time and it was honestly such a good experience. The food came out fresh, flavorful, and comforting -- exactly what I was craving. I got the birria tacos plate and my wife got the enchiladas, and both were solid choices. The birria tacos were juicy and packed with beef, and dipping them into the consommé was perfect. The enchiladas were cheesy, saucy, and filling without being too heavy. The chicken inside wasnt dry, and has flavor with each bite. The sides were simple but satisfying -- the refried beans had cheese melted on top, and the Mexican rice had good flavor. We also grabbed two horchatas, and they were super refreshing. Not too sweet, nice cinnamon flavor, and the kind of drink that just completes the whole meal. The restaurant itself has a really colorful, cozy vibe -- papel picado across the ceiling, Frida art everywhere, and that home-style taqueria feel that makes you want to come back and dine in next time. Overall, Frida Taqueria is definitely a spot I'd return to. Great portions, great flavors, and you can tell they care about the food. Mexican cuisine for lunch in Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii... I wasn't sure if Frida was open. I pulled on the door, and it opened up into a colorful, festive environment with welcoming, cheerful service! Rozzelle was at the cash register, but she came to my table several times to check on me. She was very thoughtful as she brought me a fork for my shrimp taco, which spilled out onto the plate because the toppings were generous! When I ordered at the counter, I was looking for horchata. Rozzelle pointed to the blackboard where it was written... yay! The horchata was rich and cinnamon sweet... not watered down like other places! The shrimp taco had one flour tortilla, veggies, and grilled shrimp. The smokey flavor was much appreciated because there was no spicy sauce covering up the sweet, firm, fresh shrimp! Yummy! The desserts looked so good that I had to get the Berry cheesecake... Too bad they were out of flan. I would return for that! I looked at the reasonably priced merchandise and almost got a pair of earrings for $3! Instead, I got some cute Frida coin purses. The aprons and towels were tempting, too. This is a great little restaurant! I appreciate the free shared parking lot and complimentary chips and (spicy) salsa! The customer service was friendly - I wasn't sure why I can get chips and salsa for free if I dine in but if I'm taking my food to go I have to pay for them. This place is cozy. I got the classic burrito. 4/5, Mexican rice was on point, pico was fresh, meat was flavorful. They also give you a green salsa to add on-top although i didnt see it until i finished my burrito. On its own its delicious though with spice! Down side of the burrito is it wasnt evenly packed, and the cheese was just colby jack. The drink i got was agua fresca (jamaica) which is hibiscus. It tasted more like juice than water and had a slightly unpleasant earthy after taste but the forward flavor profile was good. This is the first time ive had this kind of agua fresca before so this could be the normal flavor i dont know, overall i would rate the drink 3/5. They also sell a lot of Mexican candies! Been seeing this on my uber eats offers for weeks and figured why not try this place in person. While finding it in the lot was a tad hard at first this place is worth it and then some. For a legit hole in the wall spot their menu is definitely the most expansive on the island from nachos to postres and drinks. I ended up getting a carne asada fries, California burrito, and a horchata all benchmarks I use to try places. I debated getting fried ice cream too but I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger since the portions were so massive unlike what pictures and prior reviews mentioned that I was full in no time flat. Taste was impeccable with clear separation of ingredients and proper ratios of everything from sauce seasonings and meat. I loved every second of eating it and it used my remainders as extra salsa for my burrito. As for the agua Fresca you almost always can tell if you know what to look for what is a cheap powder Fresca to one that is either done in house to a keg and I was happily impressed it was nicely made and separated again well. Everything came out super fast and the server was quite nice and we even talked the whole time I was there. For value for a place like this looking at the menu not changing its price at all since pre Covid is quite good in these times and worth a stop if not for the food for the people and the nice dessert selection. First, pay for your order, then dine in. Packed with customers about 5:30 p.m. for dine in and to go orders. Lots of bright colors and various memorabilia that takes me back to eastern and western parts of Mexico. Smaller restaurant seats about twelve to thirteen people comfortably. I wouldn't recommend seating near refrigerated beverages as I had to move to middle seat since worker informed me a customer will grab a drink. Ordered Taco plate (3 pcs) with corn tortillas which includes refried beans and rice. You're welcome to mix and match any of protein choices. If ordering lengua, it's additional $2. Chips were served room temperature and about half of it tasted stale. Ay carumba! I prefer tortilla chips to be served fresh and hot! Salsa delivered and served fresh. Highly recommend corn tortilla tacos lengua and pastor. Great marination and in depth flavors. Couple of diced pineapples adds a little acidity and contrast to these tacos. I could definitely go without it. Chorizo taco is more on spicy side and yet delivers flavor wise. Green chile sauce and roja sauce complemented all three tacos. Nix the refried beans and rice. It wasn't served hot. Lackluster. I poured an eighth of remaining salsa in refried beans and consumed it. Tasted a whole lot better. Definitely go for horchata which is so refreshing, calms and cools spicy palate. Horchata is not advertised on their menu. Available in 16 oz, 24 oz and 32 oz cup.
