Our daughter was placed under general anesthesia for dental treatment, and we were told she needed all four front baby teeth extracted due to decay. We were never shown the X-rays, and we were not given a chance to fully discuss or understand the alternatives beforehand. Mid-surgery -- while our daughter was already under anesthesia -- we were approached and asked to sign a "refusal of treatment" form. This came after we questioned the necessity of removing all four teeth. It was shocking, emotional, and completely inappropriate to force a high-stakes decision at that point, under pressure. When we refused the extractions, no treatment was done on 3 of the 4 front teeth, and we were told by the nurse that fillings would "fail" due to the size of the teeth. This decision felt rushed and unsupported -- we received no explanation ahead of time, only a defensive conversation with Dr. Weis after the fact, where he attempted to justify his decisions instead of acknowledging our right to be fully informed. This was a clear example of "white coat syndrome" -- using authority to override parental input -- and a disturbing instance of "drill and bill" practices, where invasive procedures are pushed with minimal discussion. These were baby teeth that would fall out naturally shortly. We are relieved we stopped the extractions, but no parent should have to make this kind of decision while their child is already sedated. If you're considering working with Dr. Weis, get a second opinion first, and don't be afraid to ask hard questions. Trust your gut.

My eldest daughter was traumatized by a prior pediatric dentist in Hampton Roads and had a huge fear of dental visits. Weis cured her of that fear within 2 visits. Another daughter was extremely afraid of x-rays when she was young. Weis did a few x-rays and then scheduled us a follow-up appointment for the rest at no charge. They didn't want her to be scared; they wanted to make coming for appointments something she thought of as fun. All of my girls can't wait to get their tokens and get their little toys from the machines. What a simple and sweet way to make dental visits fun! I appreciate the patience of the staff as I ask questions, and the gentle care of the dentists and the hygienists. Many hygienists have been at Weis since we started there at least 6 years ago. That long term employment tells me a lot about how the practice is run internally, and makes me happy as a parent that my children are getting ongoing care from people who know and clearly adore them.

I came across beach kids and explained that my children have not had the best experiences with dentists outside of our last dentist. There has been multiple occasions where they went in for a check up or a filling and felt like the dentists were being rude or judgmental or not understanding to our children's situations. There was one occasion where my son was trying to get some cavities filled, but kept gagging on their mouth insert that they were trying to use. Instead of trying to comfort him or allow him to calm down they continued to try that method to the point that he was sobbing and uncomfortable. Because of that, they were unable to fill his cavities and ever since then have kept asking us to get him sedated, which we are not comfortable with. I would also like to add that the dental hygienist there have been very pleasant to deal with but my experience with the dentists have been so poor that I can no longer bring my children to this practice. My famaly's experience is our own and other people might have different experiences, but I hope that this review can help families make a better decision at which practice to go to.

Though we had initially been told any procedure may have to wait, he stayed well beyond closing to make sure she received the surgery she needed. He and the assistant made sure she was comfortable throughout and called back today to check on how she was feeling. They communicated easily with my husband and I, ensuring we understood what was being done as well as follow-up precautions needing to be taken.
