Stylists are rude and untalented. Costs for service are ridiculously high for what they offer and I have gotten significantly better cuts for so much cheaper. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they want to be ripped off. Came for a beard shape up, expecting a straight razor correction to line up the edges- barber said she would line up the edges and did not clarify that a straight edge would not be used. Arrived right at open this morning to get my son, 5 years old, a cut. I read the reviews and know Ben comes highly recommended but when we arrived Ben was mid cut and had someone else waiting. The two guys who formerly rocked another bar (that shall go nameless) shop opened Friends. Behzad "Ben" and Kia took their skills and knack for creating a manly-but-luxurious barbershop experience and re-appeard in the John's Creek area. Friends is now not so convenient for me to get to, but it doesn't matter. These guys take their time to do it right and somehow stay on schedule. We have been here several times after a bad experience at their sister store on Windward Parkway. The reason for the two stars is because of the lack of consistency. For every great cut there are two which are lackluster. I did it myself for years and just don't have the time anymore. When you walk away feeling like you could have done a better job it leaves a bad taste. It seems to be more common then not that this happens. I'm not sure if we'll be back because it is convenient and quick (I'd almost rather them take more time for a better result) but I'm not sure it's worth the trade off. We've been to the sport clips down the road and they're just as bad. We may just be in the market for another local barber. You can see in the picture that the fade is a mess. Why four stars and not five? Well, because it had been almost twenty years since my last visit to a real bonafide barber, given my propensity for avoiding all things grooming. I have no real comparison in regards to a review, so I am going to play it safe and give the next best thing. Visiting a Persian barber/hair-stylist and being compared to the Ayatollah due to my beard gigante is not a positive, but rather a beginning point for my transformation to the well-groomed side of humanity that I knew existed, but never partook. It took a gentle prod, and maybe a well-timed snark for me to shave my hard-earned facial hair. These guys handled the landscaping with aplomb, and quite entertaining conversation to boot. I suspect the usual conversations between barber and customer are that of things unimportant like those of sports, cars, or finding a nice rug to place at the front door (they are Persian afterall ;)... but it was nice to speak of things that have some social value like language variations, and even religion without being pestered into a sales pitch, followed with a four-page cartoon interpretation of your deity. It made having my beard hacked off all the more bearable. After pulling back the hot-towel from my face, it appeared another man had taken my face and reminded others that I could very well be from a first-world country again. It saddens me that I no longer look like a homeless man, but I am sure someone, somewhere will appreciate the work, and dulled razors that went into my transformation. Friends Barber Shop should be on any guy's radar in the John's Creek area if they too want to look less like those Goose Dynasty maroons. Let's just see how long I can retain this look before I regress. read more

He will make sure that he is happy with your haircut before asking you if you're happy with it. Ben is very knowledgeable about all things hair - whether it is popular and trendy hairstyles, ways to train that stubborn cowlick, or products to complete a look. His conversational manner was perfect - very friendly, engaging, and not overly exuberant. The shop itself was well appointed with ornate wooden barber stations and marble countertops. I couldn't help but notice how clean they kept the place - as well they should. I also enjoyed being only one of two customers in the shop the entire time I was there late Monday morning. This made me feel relaxed knowing that Ben was not distracted or hurried with other customers around (not to suggest that he would be even if there were more customers there). In fact, his attention to detail was unparalleled to any other barber who has ever cut my hair. To finish my haircut, he shaved the back of my neck with a straight razor and wrapped my head in a hot damp peppermint-scented towel. Very refreshing. The price for well over half an hour of his services - an excellent haircut, good conversation, and hair-related advice? $18. Not bad at all. This has easily become my regular spot for a relaxing haircut with engaging conversation! Normally, I consider myself a personable guy and try to engage in conversation with my stylist. The end result is usually stale topics or the stylist just isn't into it or there are long moments of silence. Not with Ben! He had me feeling like I was genuinely talking with a friend over a wide range of topics. I was very happy after my cut. The haircut was really good. Above average for sure. However, I did get a half-inch cut on the back my neck from the straight razor shave. But at the end of the day, it was an above-average haircut due to the staff being barber trained and not just cosmetologists. The ambience is an attempt at making this an upscale barber shop, however I felt it was an attempt, not a complete package. While the staff was really friendly and the barbers are really good, I feel it is somewhere between a "great clips" and an upscale men's salon/barbershop. I marked down to three stars from four stars because of the price and the "Nick" on the back of my neck. It was not bad but I was led to believe it was really nothing at all. The place used to be good. Then they started hiring complete crap workers. First went 2 years ago I would say "good nice cut". Then Ben started getting greedy hiring extremely low talented employees. Extremely low! When cuts were good he had one individual named Tao. If you walked in and Ben was not there you would see 4 employees 3 of which were sitting down waiting 1 was working. That one busy worker was Tao who would have a line of 4 people despite 3 other employees were available. She knew what she was doing so people waited for her. The last time I went about a week ago she was not their. I guess Ben got rid of her because she made the other employees Ben has look horrible. Speaking of Ben he also charges a 5 dollar surcharge to see him. You can walk in and he will be doing jack shit and say "I am booked up for a week, if you want to make a reservation it's 5 dollars more" If you say ok is booked week turns into "I can see you tomorrow at this time." Also if you show up with an American Express card after getting a cut even though there are no signs he says it's 5 dollars more to use an AMEX card. I got a hair cut for my last time which I assume will be many others last time a week ago. After I got it cut I called him the same day saying Kim cut my hair and it was horrific. Everything was uneven and I had to trim off a half a centimeter from my right eyebrow when I got home. I asked for a tight 4 on the side trim up top. The entire cut around the ear is completely uneven from side to side. There are large hairs sticking out and it's completely uneven. It's complete and utter laziness. I should have walked out like I normally do when Tao was not working but I gave it a one and final chance. When I called up a few hours later after my cut I told Ben "I finally saw my haircut up close and it's horrible can I stop by tomorrow for you to see it and just know what I am talking about". "He said come by now" I said "what about tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday or Monday" considering I cannot just "come by" cause people work or are busy. I called to complain about a shit cut. He kept saying "come by now." He finally said those other days were his busy days or days where the person that cut my hair was not working. He continuously said he wanted to have the person that did my hair which I said was Kim the same day who originally cut my hair to be present so he could watch over her recut it. Who the hell wants the same person who butchered your hair the first time to redo it. BTW she even told me she has done this for.....Guess what "20 years." That literally means she is 20 years of cutting hair to look like shit. Ben may have experience but I get why Tao left. She was probably way to over qualified for the place and other employees who pay for a chair to cut probably complained she was taking all the customers and they were going to leave if she stayed. Ben is completely fake and greedy. If you want a crappy ass hair cut go here. If you want a good hair cut go somewhere else. Been going here for 2 years as a creature of habit but whenever Tao was not there the cut was horrible. You may as well just take scissors and chop your own hair off in a mirror cause that's what you will get if you go here. read more

I've been going to this barbershop for two years, and Ben's recently taken to taking appointments which is clearly a sign that he's doing well. I don't so much mind making the appointment as I do having to pay a 5.00 service charge for it. The next time I went in, it was at 8AM, it was Ben and a new lady barber. I wanted him to cut my hair, but he said he was busy until 11. Not having a choice I let the lady cut my hair, and she didn't do a great job. The whole time I was there, he sat at the register staring outside. This is not how I expect to be treated as a regular customer. I'm not going again. He lost someone who was pretty loyal for two years. Hope he changes his poor business tactics. read more

The state they are open till 5pm Sat and Sunday, but the past two weekends they closed way before 5pm. Do not count on them being open to get a haircut. Let me start off by saying that it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE for me to find anybody to trust with my hair besides my regular barber. With that said, I was in Georgia visiting some family and my hair was a mess so I took a leap of faith and decided to visit Friend's Barber Shop to get my hair cut. When I arrived, Ben welcomed me in and sat me down immediately. I told him what I wanted and showed him a picture of how I wanted it cut. Throughout the haircut he maintained a casual level of friendly conversation and recommended some hair products I could use. My hair looked great by the end of it all, and he topped it off with a straight razor neck shave and a hot towel. Great place to bring all the boys in your life! It's a very nice atmosphere down to the tv and magazine selection catered towards the male gender. They have a large selection of men's hair products and can accommodate the young men in your life too. My husband raves about the hot shave afterwards.
