They wonderful things for animals, but interactions towards a person could improve tremendously when not getting to root of a cause of a situation and given out false information. And let's be honest we are all busy in life don't give me we are to busy with limitation to call backs, even emails, then hire a staff member directly for that purpose, or may a few because you'd think at least one person would reach out if you contact more then one person!!! Some people on the outside of the APL care for animals. Further more if you involve this APL they don't care about feelings to people or animals in situations of keeping them with there original family when asked for help in tough situations, they lie!!! I found out when I was told they could get a foster or a temporary hold because of my situation which was the first they straight up and put them in as a surrender to be put up for adoption!!! So my babies got shipped off like some step child in hopes they adjust!!! There's no way in hell they were gone in a few days another lie!!! Then they make you feel bad and tell you it's your fault because they lie. That might not happen to everyone but for me it did!!! The Supervisor was not nice neither I came to pick up my animals and she said I couldn't get them, so it's clear they are still there apparently, but she said she's not allowing me to get them, because they were ill meaning my fault and because one cat had natty hair!!!! Turns out the cat got Hyperthyroidism which they can contract after age 12 and the cat is 13, the thyroid problem also makes the cats appearance look ungroomed and and start a natty process from side effects making it hard to keep up and ain't that something I was lied to and pushed aside for doing nothing wrong but asking for help till I got situated which was not even a week!!! When I went to get them they were posted on line not even a day, they were still showing as I walked in at 5:45pm they close at 6:30 last adoption is at 6pm and when I was sent away took me 20 minutes to get back looked on line again they took them off the sight!!!! It's a bunch shit and I'm gonna get some kind justice out of this because you wouldn't acknowledge a good hearted person who loved her cats like it was her kid!!! Shame on me for thinking I'd get help, must of been to much for a few days of help how is it caring when your forcing animal to adjust when they didn't have too how nice of you , I think not HORRIBLE!!! Now I'm left missing my babies I ache, I only thought they were going to hold them for me just for one day and I lost them disgusting read more

I would put a zero star but unfortunately that's not an option, I've been volunteering here since February, the staff are terrible and rude, they are disrespectful to staff and super strict, I have been told multiple times that I was the best volunteer they've had and I took that too heart and got told I couldnt come back for "mistreating" animals which I can speak from my heart that never once have I mistreated any animal and so no they also lie to hide their butts and me and another volunteer have been doing most of the work without us the animals barely have water and noones walking them read more

This place is a mess. They are so disorganized, unsanitary, and unhelpful. The man who is in charge of things is loud and high energy. His "care" for animals is about getting them in and out while running around the US grabbing up dogs while our community suffers. The employees look miserable. This place hasn't changed since they opened and it shows. They need some help. Those poor animals get minimal vet care unless they are almost at death's door. Spend your time elsewhere. read more

Adopted two dogs from here & they're so easy to adopt from! There was a staff member that took my second dog out to the yard with us & gave us treats to give him & sat there with us. Then he gave us time to play with him by ourselves. He was super sweet to us! read more

Adopted dogs from here all my life some were good some needed special care and some just were plain up just not able to be trained to my standers, The owner is a amazing person and very good working with his dogs and co worker's etc, the volunteers are extremely kind and patience . theirs about 2 people that run the desk that shouldn't be working their in my books because of their ignorant snobby attuitide but thats me. I've been training dogs almost my whole life and its very nice to go their and see a clean tidy organized layout of a shelter , Keep up the good work and hopefully front desk improves their attituides . read more

BEWARE.... If you love your dog, but just are unable to keep it for whatever reason, do NOT take him/her here. They are NOT a no kill shelter & may put your dog down. They put mine down within a few weeksof her being there... If I would have known this, I would have done even more to try and give her to someone. I wish the shelter would have at least called me and let me know this was the action they were going to take. I couldn't say goodbye, except for dropping her off that dreadful day. I hate myself for even taking her there. My heart is still so broken...... read more

When we settled into life in Ohio we decided to volunteer at an Animal Shelter before getting our own dog. I was amazed at the level of training all volunteers rec'd. I was equally amazed at how thorough their system was for tracking the volunteers, their time, and the interaction each animal rec'd from the volunteers. The regular volunteers all knew the animals, esp the dogs, and seemed to not only care for them, but genuinely invested in their well being. The staff were also amazing. They too knew each animal, its story, its disposition & needs, and also seemed equally invested helping the animals find their "forever homes". I volunteered inconsistently for several months. I knew when it was time to adopt, I'd only adopt from Friendship. Although these animals are in a shelter, they are truly treated w genuine love. Finally its time to adopt our dog. The Friendship APL staff was very helpful. They, along w the volunteers, were so excited our dog had found a "forever home & family". We had to sign a detailed agreement, including a statement that said if we should decide to get rid of our dog, we'd only give him back to Friendship. They are committed to these animals! 36 hours after we got our dog home a volunteer emailed me to see how our dog was doing and to remind us to take him to the vet. I was so impressed and touched. I sent a few pictures of him adjusting to his new home, and the volunteer & I emailed a few times. I wanted to adopt only from Friendship APL bc I knew the dog I'd get, regardless of his previous life's circumstances, would have truly known love before coming to my home, before becoming a part of our family. We've had our guy almost 8 months and its been great. Friendship APL is a phenomenal choice! read more

I tried to adopt a dog(Fiona) from this place. I fell in LOVE just seeing her picture. They wanted a total of $225 for a combination of the adoption fee and deposit for spaying her at a later date. I requested that they consider waiving the adoption fee, considering that most other APLs are waiving right now and that I would have to buy start up supplies for her. No go. I even asked if they would spay her before I took her, so that I wouldn't have to pay the extra $100 upfront. No go. They said to contact them when I came up with the funds. Now, I see they are NOT a no-kill shelter. So, this means that they would rather possibly put a dog down, then to work with someone that didn't have $225+ supply money for a dog. This is very disheartening to me, as I deal with depression and being alone, working from home is killing me. Just wanted a new friend to pass the time with. These people are apparently MONEY driven, not really trying to help animals from their hearts. read more

Not sure why people are saying the staff here is not friendly...? I dropped off 4 kittens here and they had them adopted before I even left. They were friendly and grateful to take the items I was donating. If you have extra blankets, food, cat litter, toys, etc. they are happy to take it. Go get a dog. read more

Adopted a cat from here in 2017; they have a great variety of pets, helpful staff, and acceptably clean kennels for the animals. I think they have good systems in place for socializing the animals and everyone there seems compassionate and respectful! Adopted our new dog Baxter just over two years ago. People there really care about the animals. Baxter has been a great addition. He had a tough start but now he's totally awesome. We have gone back to find him a sister but haven't found one yet. They go so fast! We donate cash monthly as well as food when we go out because we believe in what they're doing. read more

This morning my kids and I were going to the animal shelter to find another cat to adopt so my other kitty could have a buddy. When I got to the shelter, this old lady with an attitude problem at the front desk told me I had to take a seat and wait until it was my turn to see the dogs for adoption day. I told the lady I wasn't looking for a dog, rather, I was looking for a cat. This old lady with an attitude problem continued to question me on what kind of cat I wanted before she would let me in and I had to explain to her I didn't know what I wanted yet, that's why I am here to look.. so again, she gave me a snotty attitude and said "okay go on in but please don't open the cages"...well yeah of course, I know better not to open the cages. I got a very big bad vibe the worker (or volunteer) so we ended up leaving without looking at the cats and went to the Berea Animal Shelter. We are excited to say we found our self a nice gray kitty and are in the process of adopting him!! Just a note to the Friendship Animal Shelter, please do not hire employees or volunteers if they are going to be jerks to the public. read more

This is a TERRIBLE place! I went and looked at a dog twice! The second time I asked for a hold and they said they couldn't because the adoption center was closed, and they were getting ready to close as well, so I went home and the next day I emailed and said I would like to adopt the dog and they said she was adopted last night! Unbelievable, and the people that adopted her was friends with one of the workers so I'm guessing she let them adopt the dog even though it was past time. I will NEVER go there again!!!!! read more

Great animal shelter, lots of volunteers and staff who truly care about the animals. And, yes, they spay and neuter all the animals -- thank you, Jesus. The reviewer who complained about that is one of the people who create all the messes in life such as unwanted puppies and kittens for the rest of us to clean for them.
