The menu had a nice selection of seafood and non seafood choices. The meals we ordered were the black & blue burger (the mound of blue cheese topping was impressive.), a fried crab cake sandwich, coconut shrimp and the blackened shrimp (perfectly grilled). Great hidden gem. We saw on their Facebook post they were open for breakfast. Service was great and the place had a great atmosphere with a view of the Sound. My wife and I both had the Heuvos Rancheros. It was delicious. Eggs were topped with a verde sauce. Others in our group got pancakes or omelettes and everyone loved the food. We went back again for dinner. We made reservations and were seated immediately. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdi thinking it was the same as the Heuvos, however this dish lit me up. It HOT is mean HOT. It was delicious but HOT. My with had the Black Drum special and loved it. We will be back but although it was delicious I will not order the Verde again. went to this restaurant on Christmas afternoon because it was one of only a few restaurants that were open. I ordered an appetizer. This is their description of the appetizer from their menu *Coastal Gratin Stuffed Oysters Our version of a classic... Six shucked oysters stuffe with fire-roasted poblano peppers, mozzarella & gouda mix, chopped bacon & butter beurre blanc When the appetizer arrived, there were 13 oysters cooked the way it says above I can't eat 13 oysters. I'm only one person so I stopped the person who was waiting on me and asked if There was a mistake because there were three times the amount of oysters on the plate he said no that's how it comes. I said OK thank you you. Then I waited 35 minutes for a shrimp Poboy there were two other people in the restaurant besides me eating that's it a shrimp Poboy if you're completely incompetent and have never cooked a day in your life might take you 12 to 15 minutes to cook if you're an established restaurant with only two other customers I can't imagine it taking longer than 10 minutes. Frying shrimp takes 4 to 7 minutes, depending on the size and the. Then I got the shrimp Poboy with four shrimp on an 8 inch bun. I cut into one of the shrimp one of the four and it wasn't cooked so when the guy came back by, I told him that I was just gonna take my oysters to go and that I couldn't eat the shrimp Poboy and I also said I think it's laughable that there were four shrimp on this entire sandwich And so then he asked me how many shrimp I wanted and I said I'm I'm not engaging in this kind of toxic conversation. So he brought me a box and the check and I went up to pay the check for my oyster appetizer and I set them to go box down on the Counter in front of me I still can't believe this happened, but when he handed me the check right after he did that, he picked up my to go box full of oysters because I only ate four and threw them away and said that since I didn't like his shrimp, Poboy, I couldn't have his food. This happened to me on Christmas day, all by myself. I am not exaggerating when I say I've only felt like I've been in the presence of true evil a few times in my life and this man the way that he was violent and aggressive in his speech and his mannerisms and taking my food for me and throwing it in the trash two seconds after handing me the check for it is the most wild behavior I've ever witnessed in all of my life if you have a choice to eat anywhere else, I urge you to do that read more

This came in a huge glass, and was pretty tasty, although a little on the sweeter side. Then for an appetizer, we shared a dozen oysters. They are listed as market price but they ended up being pretty reasonable and pretty good! Not the best I've ever had but better than other NC oysters in the area. For my main, I ordered the blackened red snapper with broccoli and mashed potatoes. It was meh, not terrible but I've certainly had better. The fish could have been more flavorful and better cooked. The broccoli was a little underdone but I liked the cheese on it. The potatoes were pretty good. I was still kind of hungry and craving something sweet, so I ordered the molten lava cake for dessert. Coming into the grill, we were seated quickly. The restaurant had a slightly strong smell of cleaning products, but I guess that's reassuring. I ordered a Volare drink to start. I was a little shocked when it came out in a full on water glass. No little sip here -- this is a serious pour! And for the price? This is a generous drink. Next, I ordered dozen raw oysters. They were properly shucked and very fresh, though I am still not sold on NC Oysters (they're a scosche bland). But, these were good! The clam chowda was so thick I could have eaten it with a fork. Yum! It's a bit bacon forward for my taste, but I wouldn't say no to another cup. The bbq sandwich was mostly good. Some bites were overcooked, but overall it was good, and very vinegary. It's also served with red bbq sauce, for those that don't like NC BBQ. The chips that came with it were awful and actually stale -- I wasn't going to eat them anyhow, but, still. Dessert was chocolate lava cake. The presentation on this was amazing (slightly lowered by a spoon being in the whipped creme. Lol)... and it tasted aa good as it looked. I really hate to leave bad reviews, but I'm just appalled by the managers rude behavior. I asked for the kids fried fish to be removed from our bill. We sent it back, almost entirely untouched because it had a very strong fishy smell and just did not taste good at all. We asked the waitress if we could order something else instead, which she of course obliged. Unfortunately the manager then confronted me in a very rude manner. We also had a very long wait for two raw poke tuna appetizers (ordered as entrees), that did not come until after everyone else had already finished their meals. We come to Hatteras frequently and are always excited to try new places. Unlike my husband, I can eat almost anywhere on the island happily because I'm thrilled with a pound of steamed shrimp and a piece of key lime or peanut butter pie, and almost anyone can satisfy those qualifications with flying colors. Despite there being other diners when we went in, food was not the predominant smell here, and I found it a bit off-putting. The service was prompt and friendly enough, but the food was a total miss. The calamari was hot but had a freezer-burn aftertaste and it was somehow both fried AND wet. My husband ordered a burger, medium, and it came out cold, leathery, and flavorless. But worst of all, the shrimp I was served was so over-steamed, I couldn't get the peels off. The few I was able to eat also tasted sort of off and got me worrying about the dreaded FP. So we wound up leaving about five minutes after we were served, with mostly untouched food. The server was a little puzzled, but didn't ask any questions, so we paid and went to Tavern on 12, instead. (Luckily, no FP!) Everyone else in the place seemed happy enough, so maybe our experience was just a rare miss. But you can't fail a burger and steamed shrimp and expect a second chance from us. read more

What a delightful meal. Best mahi with himemade tartar sauce that I'll be going back for very soon. The crew were wonderful and the service was quick. Even the himemade cole slaw as a surprise with bits of pineapple that I will be copying at home. The only reason it's a 4 instead of a 5 is that the brocolli made the scallop coating a little soggy.
