Did you say cheese? Yes, I did.... They have so many kinds of Gouda... my personal favorite is the Gouda curds, black pepper Gouda and the spicy chili Gouda. The times I have been there the mother has been running the store. She is so kind and helpful. You can view the cheese making plant through the glass if you are curious about the process of making the cheese. Very nice place and I recommend a visit!

Gouda, Gouda, Gouda, nothing but Gouda - and all of it is GOOD-A. We have passed by this going West several times, each time too late to turn in but this time we finally got to stop and it was absolutely great. The family business is spotlessly clean and they have samples of most of the Gouda varieties they sell. Four words: Cheese Curds, Three Year. The Gouda curds are a more interesting flavor than the usual Cheddar curds one encounters, but the star of our visit was the three year aged Gouda. MMM-tastic! Oh, and there is some merchandise too, like this "cheesy" t-shirt. Don't pass this place by, it's a great local treasure.

On a trip to Pella (first time in Iowa!) in search of cheese curds we were directed to Frisian Farms, and it was everything we hoped a small family dairy farm could be. The gouda is incredible--both the curds and the aged, particularly the Sneek--and it was terrific to see into the aging and processing rooms. The owners have provided a historical timeline of their family's work in the region, there is a wide selection of fresh-daily cheeses to buy retail, and even some souvenirs to buy. I loved my Frisian Farms t-shirt, which reads, on the back: "Gouda day; houda do?" Accepts all major credit cards. Worth a trip!

Love the pizza flavored curds! I always stop at their shop on the way back to Altoona after having lunch at Taos in Osky.

The only one of its kind in the IC Downtown District, Brix Cheese Shop & Wine Bar has it all. (And…read moreby all, I mean cheese and wine. What more could you need?) What started as a wine and cheese shop with a small bar has grown into a full-service restaurant with a small shop. It boasts outdoor seating (though, be careful for falling acorns during the fall-- those are hazardous)! I stopped in on a Friday evening, prior to another reservation. I got a crisp glass of rose and enjoyed the beautiful October day. I'd d I recommend street parking, down Linn Street. Though the Tower Place Parking Ramp is a short .25 mile walk away. Honestly, I bumped this up a star for two main reasons. 1) STAFF. Man, just the most helpful, knowledgeable and personable folks work here. Kind folks. I mean Kind with a capital K -- and it starts from the top. During the pandemic, the owner donated $13k during the peak of the pandemic to local businesses. (By challenging his customers: For every $100 Brix gift card purchased, he would pay forward 100 percent, with 75 percent of the money going to various downtown venues, restaurants and retail, and 25 percent to the Englert Theatre.) Additionally, each year Brix does a Rosé vs Wade event raising money for the local Emma Goldman Clinic of Iowa City. 2) Wine classes. I am always so intrigued to see the wine classes Brix puts up on Facebook. I adore wine but I am not anything close to a sommelier. Keep an eye out for these informative and tasty classes! Brix is one of a kind in Downtown Iowa City. Sip, sip hooray! Stop by.

This practice is common in Basque pintxo bars and adds a cultural ritual to the drinking experience. Only these guys can't be bothered to serve it that way. Shame on you for being lazy.
