It's been years since I had fritanga. For Latin Americans, fritanga can be a dish of various fried foods, but it is also referred to home-style Nicaraguan food served cafeteria style; to eat in or to-go. Fritanga Ango-nica (Angola-Nicaragua) in Hialeah Gardens "is not" a dive nor a hole in the wall. It's small, yes; but clean, well put together and inviting. They have a decent sized area for outdoor seating, but on a scorching Summer Sunday in August, we stayed indoors. The food is what you would expect from an amazing Nicaraguan well prepared and presented, non-greasy, home-cooked plentiful meal. We were served by Mayra who was attentive and pleasing. It was quite the spread of surf and turf choices. They offer, beef, pork, chicken, and fish. I wanted EVERYTHING, but minimally elected the gallo pinto (seasoned white rice/red bean blend), ropa vieja (saucy shredded beef) maduros (fried sweet plantains), and carrots that were curtido style (sort of pickled), flash-steamed to keep crunchy and preserve all the nutrients. I also added a quarter of an avocado. The gallo pinto was just right--not dry, not too much water in the cooking process. That's my favorite recipe for rice. Some tend to add just a tad more water for an oatmeal consistency, but NO! ;P Others add less water to make it drier/grainier, but the cook here got it right! The ropa vieja was also "al punto". The beef was tender and mouth watering satisfying. My family ordered other equally scrumptious dishes that I won't go into, but you can view the photos. They have assorted drinks, including Perrier water (in a can). This place is a diamond in the ruff for sure and I will return!

this place is one of MANY fritangas in the area. If you've never been to a fritanga, let me tell you what it is. A fritanga is a Nicaraguan restaurant, I visited Nicaragua once and there what happens is that housewives set up a cooktop outside of their house every evening and sell carne asada with gallo pinto and queso frito. Fritanga Angonica is trying something a little different fromt he other fritangas in this area. They have a modern look which the rest are lacking. They also have a lot more vegetable choices that most fritangas do. I also found their food to be way fresher and that is why I do not mind paying a little more for food here. Usually i get a carne asada plate for $6.25 at most fritangas, but her it cost me $8. We did a taste test with my husband, he ordered a meal from our regular fritanga and I ordered it from Fritanga Angonica and we tasted both dishes and each time, hands down, Fritanga Angonica won :) I hope they keep up the quality. I only visit miami 3 times a year and I will be doing a follow up review next time I'm in town. In the meantime check out the pictures I posted on my last visit.

Small fritanga spot in Hialeah. Parking is available all around the plaza. I've been to other fritanga restaurants and this location didn't have many different food items to choose from maybe they ran out of food? Either way I hope they expand their food selections. I got the carne asada with morro and a salad. The food was bland, didn't really have a distinct taste. I ate inside the restaurant which has a few small tables inside. For a quick bite that's better than fast food this a good spot. Prices for the food are reasonable so that's a plus for this location.

Needs some fixing. Ordered Carne Asada with their Gallo Pinto Rice. Their tacos where made with a thick tortilla then fried-- hence why is was hard rock and once you bite, you slide with all the filling out. Not typical Nicaraguan Tacos as expected from my childhood ( not even close) but it all right for the cravings.

Carne asada was mostly burnt and did not have good seasoning/taste.. the customer service was also subpar.

The food is great but just the employees the way they talk to you is so rude all attitude making faces rolling eye isn't really welcoming

Had tamales from here and ended up sick all say nonestop vomiting. Maybe it was just that batch but if messed me up.

The Food is delicious!! Definitely a must go for you guys who want to have yummy Carne asada and cacao . You need to try it all :)

Though they have a preset menu for corporate type events, our boss was generous enough to let us select off the open menu. The decor is made to look like the inside of a hacienda with the tile roofs and stucco columns (yes you tell I'm a structural engineer :) The music was mostly 80s ballads, and service was very attentive. They even brought one of the desserts with a candle for a colleague's birthday, and took our group's photo. We started with a couple of baskets of buttered herbed Cuban bread and dipping chimichurri, as well as an appetizer sampler including refried beans, fried cheese and tequenos. The fried cheese was served on a little piece of pita bread and is a must try. I also enjoyed the refried bean soup, especially when dipped with plantain chips. As far as my main course, everyone knows how much I love cows! I enjoyed a sizable piece of churrasco, juicy even at medium well, sweet plantains and moros (here they serve it with red beans instead of black beans) and crispy house-made plantain chips. The Tres leches was also very fluffy, with a lot of cream and perfect enough to send me to a nice little after lunch nap. I also washed it down with Cortadito.
