My first time here. I know it's an iconic spot with comfort Cuban food and known for their churros. I was definitely forced to practice my Spanish. Although I'm no where near perfect I still needed a little help from Google translate lol my chicken plwte was very flavorful. I also ordered boiled yucca that came late so not in the pictures. My sister had the bistec and fell in love with it. Unfortunately I didn't like the churros at all. I think the dough was possibly old because it tasted off. I've never had a churro that I never liked. I think I may have caught them on a bad day. The servers were okay. Not too friendly but maybe they were tired. This is a Hialeah staple! Been open since the 1960s and the vibe is original and takes you back in time. Let me know you the service is amazing. We went for lunch and the owner helped us arrange a table for 7 immediately. Our waitress was so helpful and patient with us. We came specifically for La fritas cubana and it was terrific. Just like I remembered it as a kid. We also ordered the mariquitas which came with garlic sauce. That sauce is homemade and delicious. Also I picked up a sugar cane juice "guarapo". Why not? :). Man! This spot in Hialeah is where it shines ! I drove from Homestead all the way here. And I'm upset I didn't take pictures of our food to show everyone. But when I tell you this has been the best Cuban food ever! I am not exaggerating. So full of flavor the palomilla and my grilled chicken . I was wishing I had an extra stomach to finish it all. The place was clean and organized for the most part, however service was pretty poor but it's subjected cause they could simply be having a bad day but they are nice. My overall review is depending on food so here it is: I got the cafe con leche and the especial de el día: carne con papa, rice and beans with tostones The meat was so tender and flavor was a good, there was a piece of potato that wasn't cooked that well but it's only one piece so it's okay. The tostones were fresh and crispy and was delicious with their garlic sauce. The rice was standard and beans could be better, it's missing some seasoning in my opinion. Overall it's pretty good if you're in the area and have a want for home cooked Cuban food. But I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again. read more

A few days ago, we were coming back into Miami late, after a long drive. Miami today is very different than it was two decades ago, with very few options for late night dining. Morro Castle is one of those few options. We went out of our way and into Hialeah to grab a bite. I have to say that on all fronts I was pleasantly surprised. I had a grilled chicken breast with congri and tostones. Everything was fresh and made to order. It wasn't a large portion, but it also was very reasonably priced. It tasted great. My son had the large pan con bistec, so that was great also. We ended the meal with a hot serving of freshly fried churros. The dining room itself is nothing to write home about and the place could use a good deep cleaning. That said though, it was five star food in a three star environment. Four stars for a good late night bite. read more

Morro Castle has always been my favorite local cuban food restaurant. The food is always priced well, comes out fresh and in large servings. The servers are friendly for the most part. I went recently for churros and hot chocolate because of the Miami "cold front". The churros were delicious and you could tell were made to order. The hot chocolate tasted like it might have been from one of the little packs with the tiny marshmallows but it was still good. My only complaint was that the churros are served only with sugar on top and I asked if they had any toppings like chocolate, condensed milk, caramel and she said no, only the sugar. I've been coming here ever since I was little. When my family had no time to cook morro castle was the best Cuban spot to go to. Honestly it's still my go to Cuban food spot in Hialeah. Staff has always been friendly here and service is always quick. Also this might be controversial but I think they have the best frita in Hialeah. They just make them a bit different here and I love it. Only knock that I will give them from over the years is that the portions have gone a bit down while prices have gone up. But honestly that's every where now and you still get a bang for your buck here. Definitely recommend for an authentic Cuban meal. read more

Driving through and out of Hialeah, I passed by this place that my grandmother and I ate lunch at when she lived nearby. I just couldn't resist, so I made a U-turn and came in to order the special for the day, which was under $10. Moros y Cristianos (white rice cooked with black beans), Pollo estilo vaca frita (fried shredded chicken with onions), and maduros. I didn't order a drink, as I had just chugged down a Guarapo full of ice! They also serve complimentary toasted Cuban bread with butter. The ambiance is pretty quiet, and I couldn't figure out why. Maybe everyone was tired from the night before or something, but some salsa music in the background would have been nice--you could hear a toothpick drop! Altogether, the food was excellent and the service was good, but when the bill came, and I flipped my bank card, just to break the silence, I was advised they accept cash only. Fortunately, for my manicured hands, they have an ATM on the cafe side of the restaurant with a $2.00 convenience fee. "Convenient for whom!" I wanted to shout. Notwithstanding, this small restaurant is clean and the people are friendly, but the cash-only policy stinks like a lit cigar. Therefore, I'll give them a 4.5 rating. read more
