I've been coming to this Fritanga for the last 24 years and I know I can rely on fresh, delicious, and authentic Nicaraguan food here. I still remember when the meal was $3.90! It's closer to $14 these days but you get a very generous portion and really tasty food. I love their gallo pinto, queso frito, sweet plantains. I'll occasionally order the cacao drink. What a shame that the ladies that work here son todas una amargadas. Same goes for the ones on Miller and 117th. Looks like it's a requirement if you want to work here. Same rude attitude all the time. They keep increasing the price of the food but its nothing to rave about. Also if you want some Chile, or picante, it's $0.75 per colada shot sized cup. A sinner's paradise! Due to being local to the area, this has been my go-to Fritanga for the last 20 years probably. The restaurant isn't the nicest and the service maybe isn't the friendliest but for a quick pick up order, it's perfect! The gallo pinto continued to be the best I've ever tried, accompanied by queso frito (don't skip on this), and either carne asada OR pollo empanizado (depending on your mood) is heaven in a plate. They used to also make this guiso de zucchini which was to die for but I haven't seen it in a while, they may just make it every so often but if you're lucky enough to see it available, get an order and mix it in with the rice... you won't regret it! Portions are also very large, you can easily share an order of the gallo pinto and just order additional protein if needed. read more

I am originally from Miami and have a Nicaraguan mother. So, it was only right I visit a Fritanga over the holidays. This one was the closest to our house. The portions here were huge--my picture is just half of a serving because I shared with my sister. The gallo pinto, queso frito and ensalada de repollo were FIRE. I knocked off a couple of stars because the meat was tough, the plantains were burnt and the cacao had not been strained enough so it tasted very grainy. Also, at most fritangas, you can have as much hot sauce as you want but here, they charged $0.50 for a small container. There's a few better ones in the city. read more
