BEWARE!!! DO NOT SHOP HERE!! I was very excited and interested to come here looking to find some vintage jewelry. This turned out to be one of the worst shopping experiences I've EVER had. My first impression was it was small, super cluttered and smelled very odd.. I was also not impressed with any of the selection of clothes or jewelry they had it all just seemed like a bunch of old junk (not to mention it was expensive). After spending a couple of minutes in the store the employee and owner started staring at me while I was looking at the bracelets and began to accuse me of stealing. I am not surprised not a soul was in this shop they're customer service is terrible!! Overall, this whole experience made me super uncomfortable and I will never be coming back here again!! Well this was a disappointing first visit. Got two reasonably priced items, a brooch and a pair of earrings, ok so far. Then I purchased what I thought was a pair of Vintage LISNER earrings in the glass case (on a Lisner card) but they are not LISNER. I got home and looked at them through a Jeweler's loop and there is a makers mark on the clip but it is not LISNER, can't make it out. They do have a nice variety of things in the store but really put off now with the misleading earrings. I'd bring them back but can't find my receipt....when it rains it pours. There wasn't a bad smell at all, and the only tags I saw that weren't from the store were things like an original tag from the 1950's. There are shops of this quality in Chicago proper, but as far as I have found, this is the only one of its kind currently in the suburbs of Chicago. High quality vintage clothing from someone who knows vintage. She has a great variety of sizes and a wonderful variety of eras, all categorized by decade. She also carries a nice variety from casual, every day clothing to cocktail dresses, evening gowns, shoes and accessories and a men's section for my husband. My husband and I like 40s, 50s and 60s and my teenage daughters like 60s, 70s and 80s and she has it all. The owner is extremely helpful and gives suggestions on clothing that is in your size and style. Like this place although it is pricey. I understand VINTAGE is in, but still, wondering if she sells anything from here. I searched forever for a purse to match my 'mother of the groom' dress and found the perfect match there. It was quite expensive, but I was exhausted from my search and found the purse was a vintage lucite purse. I bought it and got a ton of compliments. The selection itself is okay for the suburbs, but everything in the shop can be easily found for a fraction of the price online. That plus the absolute hostility of a shopkeeper make this place a waste of time. Despite the inflated prices, I wanted to support a brick and mortar store. My sister, husband and I browsed- my sister and I with the intention of buying. While my sister and I browsed the clothes, my husband looked around the men's corner, and at the postcards and things. We were taking our time, when I overheard the shopkeeper say "don't take pictures in here." My husband apologized immediately, saying "sorry, so sorry" and put his phone away. The woman continued, saying it defeats the purpose of selling it and that it "insulted" her. Her tone was so aggressive, so loud, that my sister and I, jaws dropped and cheeks aflame, hung up our dresses. When we ask if he's ready to go the woman asks if we have to go because he is "embarrassing us". My husband is from Europe (we are visiting for the holidays) and he was excited to see old fashioned American postcards. She likely thought we were embarassed by the aghast looks on our faces. If anything I was embarrassed by her. Shocked and humiliated, lest my husband think such shrill disrespect is normal here. She lost our business. A no photo policy is completely understandable, but such lack of civility (over a 50 cent postcard photo which was taken, and which he would have even bought) is not. I highly advise against going here. Save your money and look elsewhere. read more

I had been researching places to shop for vintage clothing and came across Frocks and Frills. I decided to go because it looked like a cute shop and I like to support local business, but upon entering I instantly regretted my decision. First I was told after walking in to set my coffee at the front and given a dirty glance up and down. I understood that they may not want drinks spilled on the clothing so I brushed it off and continued to browse the store. After looking for no more than two minutes I was continuously asked a series of questions which ranged from helpful to plain insulting. I told the woman I would just like to look through the shirts and she left me for another five minutes, then came back and continued asking me questions and giving me dirty glances. The women who worked there were rude and seemed to just want to get me out of the store, as if my money was no good there. It was one of the worst if not the worst shopping experiences I have ever had. read more
