They can prove to be somewhat popular as who doesn't enjoy a good burger and fries every so often! Chez Victor is an interesting discovery. Looking through their website, the are available in locations near and around the Capital region of Quebec City! I've eaten at their location at Le Bourgeneuf and was pleasantly surprised! They have a simple menu of beef burgers, veggie burgers, a salmon burger, wild boar, chicken, merguez and also sandwiches and salad. Simple selection yet enough to keep you visiting. With a burger you get their home cut fries (quite good) and they offer you a choice of mayo (real quebec style). The even have a poutine confit canard ($14) that I haven't tried yet! On this visit I asked what was the most popular and my server mentioned "the classic" and "montagnard". I chose the montagnard with a 1/2 caesar 1/2 fries ($2 add on) with curry mayo. I found the meal good but a bit too much "creamy" for my liking. Reason was the caesar had a really creamy dressing, the burger had too much chèvre and red pepper pesto. I ate it none the less but I don't think I'd choose this again in the future. This visit was okay but I'll be back to try other burgers in the future!

Americans familiar with the make-your-own-bowl dining situation will know how this place works…read more This is a fast food restaurant that I first spotted at the Quebec City mall food court. The passing trays looked amazing but we couldn't find seating to save our lives so we struck out to look for another location nearby. You start with a base: quinoa, rice, bulgur, fries (poutine), or lettuce. You choose a number of chicken tenders in one or two flavors, then choose from a variety of toppings. The staff here *understandably* is not great in English, which can of course change depending on where you go and when you come. This was one of our first stops before my high school/college French instruction "clicked on" again, so ordering was mildly stressful for our family. It would have been nice if there were some pre-designed bowl recipes to select from (like Cava, for example). For those of you willing to play the language barrier game, the sky is the limit in terms of how you can personalize your bowl. Like every Quebecois dining establishment, this fast food chain is head and shoulders above any American equivalent. Even their poutine (which can be messed up, I assure you) was among the top poutines I've eaten. This is a great place to grab a quick meal, as light or heavy as you require.

Though the chicken pieces were small, it was flavorful, and one bowl was more than enough for me. The ambiance was good, big wall size glass, ordered at the counter got the food, and had fun!

Personally, it was a treat for me trying out something different, but I do not think everyone would appreciate its almost raw meat and liver-like texture. The Tartare comes with fries, a salad, and crouton to round up the order. We upgraded the side of fries that came with the Tartare into their Tout Cochon poutine. I was happy with that option that way I was able to sample their house poutine without needing to dedicate a full meal order for it. I can say this was among the best poutines I have had. The gravy was rich and flavourful. The poutine was also loaded with a variety of different proteins like the Gaspor farm ham and the bacon-wrapped sausage. The perron cheese curds also perfectly topped off the whole dish. Our last order was the Quebec pork chop marinated and grilled with maple and tamari. It was served with apple chutney, sweet potato mash, and seasonal vegetables. It is exactly as you would expect with the ingredient details of the dish's name. You get a lot of different flavour profiles and textures with the meal order. Some saltiness with the pork chop then some sweetness with the apple chutney. Meaty tenderness with the pork chop, mushiness with the potato mash, and then some slightly crunchiness with the seasonal vegetables. We dined on Sunday lunchtime the day before Family Day. There were people waiting to be seated by the time we arrived, but fortunately our group of only 2 people has a table spot available so did not need to wait. We were led down flights of stairs to the lower floor which was level with the street below. The whole place with its classic walls and decor exudes with classic charm.

I ordered the half rack of ribs, which was a mixed bag. The flavor was good, but several ribs were so burnt they were completely inedible--straight to the discard pile. They came with a well-dressed Caesar salad featuring seasoned croutons and delicious shaved bacon, plus sliced fried potatoes that were crispy and not greasy in the least. The thick layer of BBQ sauce wasn't quite my style--I'm a dry rub girl--but I was too hungry to care much. No photos because I devoured everything. My dining companion had a chicken sandwich she raved about. She ordered a Nordic spritz while I indulged in some Quebec cider. Honestly, I expected more pork options given the restaurant's name, but they fed us quickly and efficiently, which was exactly what we needed. No real complaints except for those burnt ribs. The interior has eclectic, cool-looking decor that's worth checking out. Our waitress provided quick and efficient service as well.
