I ordered online and went in the store to get it. It was a random Tuesday afternoon around 4:20 PM. It was crowded AF holy moly. That is really surprising LOL. I waited for a bit before they got my to go order ready. I ordered three items and it came in this enormous to-go bag. I thought I was bringing home a meal for a family of 27. Turns out the boxes were just big. They give me three bags of chips, 4 salsas, a whole tray of rice and beans. The food was great huge portions. I got the huevos with chorizo which was a bit salty. We love Frontera's! It has become a nearly weekly ritual for us after having tried many of the other mexican restaurants in the area. They usually have a margarita on special and the queso especial is fantastic. We've tried a few things: shrimp tacos, shrimp and mushroom enchiladas, grande burrito, carne asada, carnitas, etc. and all are excellent. Fast and friendly service as well! Good no more. Just awful. Used to be our most favorite restaurant. It's been open nearly 20 years, I'm sure and we'd never had a bad meal there until recently we've had two. I ordered the Chile Relleno which was described with cheese and onions. IT HAD SEAFOOD IN IT. My guess was shrimp. The menu said cheese/onion. Then the waitress AND manager told me I was wrong...It didn't. Listen: this is my fav meal anywhere, including here. Well USED to be at this place. Sent it back. Lost my appetite. My husband said: What if someone has an allergy to shellfood or fish == will they deny it then? To their credit they comped our whole meal (about $30). That's the only reason for 2 stars. We won't be going back. Not to be told there ISN'T seafood in my food when I KNOW there is! My husband had the pollo platter -- that's changed too. Not nearly as good. Hardly moist, mostly dry. The other week we were visiting some folks in Kansas and wanted to go out for Mexican. Fronteras had come highly recommended. The recommendations did not steer us wrong. Is it authentic Mexican food? I can't say, but I can say it was great food. Also, they have a fairly extensive selection of alcoholic beverages. I got a Pina Colada margarita. It sounded interesting. It was amazing. As with many other Mexican restaurants they had a very big menu to select from. I tend to go with a combination plate so I can try several different things, along with rice and beans. My combination was a taco al pastor, a tamale and a chili relleno. There is a local place, where I live, that has what I consider the best taco al pastor that I have ever had. Hate to do this to my local place, but the one at Fronteras was even better. The tamale and chili relleno was also excellent. Only thing that I was disappointed in were the chips, which that put a basket on the table with salsa. The salsa was very good. The chips were the real thin ones. Not particularly to my liking. However, even with the chip comment I still give this 5 stars. Place is located in a strip mall. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Also, we had two little ones in our group. They have a great kids meal selection. We had a lot of food and had leftovers to take home and enjoy the next day. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

Food was brought to table far too hot to eat. Clearly excessively microwaved. Ordered gluten -free, got gluten. Sick for days.

My only regret was not trying Fronteras sooner. Saw all the good reviews in a bunch of places, so had to try it. Have eaten there 3 times now and really think their menu is unique. So far every dish we have tried was very well executed. Definitely get the Vallarta Shrimp. They are stuffed with a slice of jalapeño, Monterey Jack then wrapped in bacon then grilled. Not spicy, and don't know why more restaurants don't do this preparation (it's not uncommon but don't see it much here in KC). Get any dish with their chorizo in it, it's all good. Carnitas are also a winner! read more

I love this place! Great food! It's a clean hole is the wall tucked away in a old shopping center where it's virtual invisible from the street driving by, but the food is great! It's a more home cooked taste than Mi Ranchito's and more zesty flavor than a Chipotle, but certainly more heavy sitting than Chipolte. My first time I got a order other than what I ordered as the waitress didn't understand English very well, but it ended up being a great dish and so far my favorite one! I have since just pointed to what I want while saying it just to be extra clear so there is no misunderstanding. The place is very friendly and welcoming and has been both almost no one there and full with a wait time when going. The menu is pretty large and the Margaritas were pretty good, but I still like Mi Ranchito's house margarita the best. The bar is dinky so most of the seating is in the eating area and there's only a few booths as most seating is tables. There's not a lot of seating, but it's not a small place. read more

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Mexican food...I was raised in Los Angeles, so I'm a bit spoiled of it. Once moving here I knew I had to find my spot out here for this cuisine. At the same time I dont like travelling too far, haha. I was very skeptical coming here because when I think of mexican restaurants its usually some sort of watered down stuff, or tex-mex. I've been here a few times and ordered off the menu, their selection is alright. One day I asked if they can do something for me that wasnt on the menu, and from that day on I love this place for doing so. I asked them to make me a barbacoa platter, since its not on the menu. Its just ur basic platter with rice and beans. It was nice that they accomodated for me. Their food is delish. Tonight I ordered a la carte 2 tamales with my leftovers and on the bill was $7.58....FOR TWO TAMALES. Im so used to spending $1 per tamale in LA out of a van in a walmart parking lot, or in Seattle $20 a dozen at the local hole in the wall marvel. Their platters are at expected restaurant prices, but boy are their tamales pricey!! I'm still looking for that fantastic small place packed with a punch. Soooo delivery isn't their strong suit. Neither is quality food. And neither is decent customer service. 1) Half of our order came around at 2:15. Apparently the delivery guy forgot the other half. 2) I called the restaurant immediately. They sent another delivery person. The other half of the order arrived at 4:10. 2 freaking hours later. 3) We live in an apartment. Our leasing office had to call us because the second delivery guy "couldn't find us." They knew the apartment number and had the right address. 4) The food came cold and soggy (of course). 5) Last (but not least) the delivery guy says to my husband, "did you leave a tip on this card?" My husband responded yes. The delivery guy asked how much. My husband responded by saying he didn't know because I had made the order. Then he proceeded to say that he'll call later. LIKE WHAT?!?! You bring the food 2 hours late, deliver the food without even getting out of your car, then you have the audacity to ask about your tip? Unprofessional. 6) I called the restaurant to relay the events to them. I was on hold for 5 minutes. I was offered a discount for "next time." Thanks but no thanks. Loved the asada Street tacos, huge marg to go with, most definitely will have again. I like this place I really like the staff and owner. It's a go place for lunch and our group meeting. Food is always hot and delicious if Mexican food is your love. Try this place. The mild salsa is good but ask for hot and be prepared for HOT it will make your nose run. Make sure you print off free spinach or cheese cheese dip (5.99 value) The wait can be hit or miss but most it gets frustrating if you have picky eaters and the chips are thin but sometimes it's not refilled timely and there always a napkin shortage so be prepared to ask for plenty of napkins. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but go inside and you'll see all the tables of happy customers that lets you know you're on to something good. El presidente margaritas were excellent. Bacon jalapeño poppers were huge, biggest I've ever seen. You get four and we could only eat two. Chips are very light and thin, but good. We weren't a big fan of the red salsa...too tomato tasting, but a green sauce came with the poppers and it was really good, kinda spicy. Can't remember the name of my entree, but it was a burrito with chicken, beef and chorizo, very good and spicy. This is a good place so we will return. read more

I'd heard a lot about this place and so we decided to give it a whirl. It located out in Lenexa which is a bit out of our convenience area but we do like to venture out into all areas of the metropolitan area. The food is good and there is lots of it. It's in a strip mall off of Quivira and parking was not a problem even though it was busy. It is quite popular with the locals. I would not go out of my way to come here not because there is anything wrong with it but it is an average Tex-Mex place, a good value and good food but we have plenty of those kinds of places close to us. If you are out by here though and you get a hankering for Tex-Mex, I would recommend Fronteras, and, we will probably be back again. Pretty solid overall visit to Fronteras. Set in a strip mall and surrounded by other ethnic eateries, Fronteras has a lot to offer. The menu gives you plenty of flexibility and lots of choice. The first time you look at it, it can seem a bit daunting because they have so many different ways to make quesadillas, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, fajitas, and all other types of Mexican fare. It took both my wife and I some time to decide on what to eat. We did start with our typical cheese dip. The chips were hot and fresh. The cheese dip had a kick of heat to it, but not too much. My wife enjoyed the salsa and tried the green sauce that was also delivered with the salsa. Turned out to be a jalapeno cream sauce, which my wife said was quite spicy. For entrees, I decided on a chicken quesadilla and my wife got a chimichanga. I had to pick a few onions out of mine, but it was really tasty. My wife enjoyed the chimi. She said the guacamole was really good. The rice was nice and the refried beans were tasty. Overall, it was a really good place. I haven't found what will be my 'usual' yet here, but with a menu this vast, I'm ready to go back and keep trying new things. This place really looked closed when we puled up. Looks are deceiving. Their margaritas are great, not too sweet and good flavor. Their chips are thin and crispy and lots of cilantro in the salsa. I loved their black beans as well as their refried beans! The sTaff was very polite and the environment was great for my partner and I. We both got the sobrano burrito and loved it!
