I am stunned by the poor quality of customer service and all the add-ons for a "custom order."

I went out today with a goal of trying some of the best desserts in Memphis, and I was sadly disappointed by this place. First of all let me say, their cakes and decorating work inside was amazing! Some of the most professional cakes I've seen. I know they know what they're doing, esp when it comes to that. But for the average person who comes in for a treat, not so much. I got the gooey espresso and strawberry cookies, and a snickerdoodle. Oh and a coffee. The "gooey cookies" were honestly just cake-y cookies that were underdone, or at least supposed to be. The espresso one was, but the strawberry was much more done and not gooey at ALL. And for me, even though I realize it's a cake shop, I expect a gooey cookie to be soft and chewey, not cake-y (cake-y donuts and cookies kill me, sorry Dunkin). In addition, they really weren't very sweet! As for the snickerdoodle, it tasted like it was just doused in sugar with not much flavor otherwise- and it was crunchy! Ughh I can't even say how disappointing a crunchy cookie is, right beside a cake-y one, when all I wanted was ooey gooey cookies!!! Also, the strawberry flavor was so overpowering that both of the other cookies in the bag had hints of strawberry. Ehhh gross. And, to be honest, the recurring flavor was birthday cake. So I'm serious, if you love birthday cake taste and cake texture, you'll love this place. Otherwise.... no. The coffee was super tasty. Sadly I probably won't be back for the sweet treats. read more

OMG! These bakery items are to die for! There is another midtown bakery that has very good cakes as well but they are much more expensive. Frost is delicious! Came to try this establishment at around 3:30pm on a Monday. It wasn't that busy in there. I'd say there were 2 people waiting at tables for their order, my husband and I second in line behind another gentleman, and someone who had already ordered their dessert, sitting at another table. A woman and her two grandkids came in and cut in front of me, my husband, and the gentleman in front of us. There is a side of the counter specifically for ordering, and, for some reason patrons still try to make orders on the left side of the counter which is NOT specified for ordering. The employees are slow and do not care about those who have been waiting in line. They just say, "I can help the next guest" while pretending to be oblivious to the customers actually in line. The gentleman in front of us was upset, understandably so. That was the customer service aspect of the bakery. The desserts themselves, however, are also terrible. The "gooey butter cookie" is terrible. It is basically a cake in the shape of a cookie and it is overly-salty. The large chocolate chip cookie is basic and I honestly bake better cookies at home. I wanted to order a cake for my birthday (20 somethings). But since I'm an early January baby I didn't realize the shop was closed through Jan 1st! I checked online and was able to read about the kinds of cakes and found in the FAQ's that they needed some advance time for special orders (can't remember how much) but that customers could pick up a ready made cake any day at any time and that simple sparkle and writing would be FREE. I came the night before my birthday to pick up my cake. I also called earlier that day and payed over the phone so that my cake would be ready when I came to pick it up. My. Birthday. Cake. I am going to go ahead and pat myself on the back a bit for this one because I just hit a home run. Brides were more than jealous (literally gasping and then mumbling that my birthday cake was prettier than their wedding cake), people accosted me all night asking who made this piece of art, the professional photographer AND videographer couldn't stop taking photos of it, and guests were asking for doggie bags so they could take home some yummy goodness with them. And all I did was swing by the shop a month ahead of time, showed a nice lady the picture of a cake I found on Pinterest, paid the $550, popped back by the morning of my party and was on my merry way. I was referred to Frost bake shop by a friend. I was so pleased with their desserts. I was a bit sceptical about the cakes because I was buying only the cupcakes. One day I tried the coconut cake, it was okay because I don't really do coconut. A short time later I tried the carrot cake, it was delicious. Really wanted to be impressed. We stopped by on our way through town. I picked up a few slices of cake and my friend picked up some cookies. Neither of us was blown away. The place was very busy and people were picking up orders and hoping other cakes were available. For us, it was too sweet. She picked up the gooey cookie and was less than thrilled. I picked up coconut cake and could barely taste the coconut. There was an overwhelming sweetness to everything that took over the true flavors of the items. The Memphis Cream Cake is a winner. It's a banana and nut cake with peanut butter flavored icing drizzled with ganache. So good. I like the cupcakes best because they are just the right size and not too much icing, which is way sweet. Tried Frost because of coworkers said they are pretty good but it was Not what I expected. The gooey bars are pretty good but not the cupcakes. I went today because it's been too long since I've had some of the deliciousness they offer. I missed my exit and took a long detour to get these cookies lol. The cupcakes are good, too. Visited Frost Bakery for the first time this weekend. I've had some of their sweets that were brought at my job and decided to visit the bakery to try other items on their menu. Their vanilla sandwich cookies are awesome; however, they ran out so we decided to order the strawberry gooey cookies. Very dry...won't recommend. We also ordered a dozen cupcakes: Strawberry: Probably the best one Coconut: This was really good also Carrot: This wasn't bad either. Oreo: Meh...it's ok. I don't think I'd order this one again. Almost taste like the same oreo cake they sell at Kroger. German: Not that good. Prices are fairly high...the cost of a dozen cupcakes are $27. I will order a strawberry cake next time I visit. I was highly disappointed with the customer service at Frost (Laurelwood) location. I purchased 36 cupcakes to give to members of my Sunday School class. When I asked for cupcake boxes to match, I was given 10 and told had to purchase the remainder boxes at $.50 cent each. I reluctantly bought them with thought in mind to return the cupcakes. I purchase from them all the time and never ran into this problem. The manager told me that upper management changed the store policy 6 months ago. There products are good, I usually recommend them to all my clients, friends and strangers. I will never again. If a company is this petty over a box, after I have purchased their product. That's not a good business practice. They should post the same in their business and give the customer the option as to whether they want the extra charge. If I had made 36 individual purchases, would they have given me a cupcake box? Being in business, I know that it's the small details that keep customers coming back. I hate this because I went to a competitor and they gave me boxes for free. Guess I should have gone there first. If Frost could not afford the cupcake box with their advertisement on it, then maybe they should consider a cheaper, plain cupcake box or go up a few cents on their prices to accommodate the cost of packaging their product. read more

I found out about Frost when they included their gooey butter cookies in a Batch Memphis box. This lasted .00000001 seconds, and I was hooked. The bakery itself is attractive in a subdued way ,not the over-the-top Pinterest explosion of Muddys. I've had multiple items here but my favorite is the Gooey Butter Cookies-gooey, buttery, decadent and delicious. Also really outstanding is Memphis Cream cupcake-tributing Elvis, the mix of peanut butter and banana is rich and flavorful. The gooey chocolate is also good but pales compared to its butter counterpart, and the other cupcakes are just as rich and yummy as what you would find in the midst of the current cupcake craze. The cookies are also worth a try, I'm partial to the chocolate chip and the snickerdoodle. The satellite bake shop they have in Atoka is a smart business model, but they don't offer the cheesecakes and tiramisus, both of which are also yummy. I haven't had anything I didn't like. Gooey butter cookie!!!! The strawberry was amazing as well. I bought a dozen gooey cookies (butter, strawberry, and chocolate). All were soft, and gooey in the middle with a light flaky outside. My hubby and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary, so I decided to get a simple wedding like cake to surprise him. I chose the chocolate cake and its so moist and fluffy, so good! I got a very simple, very clean design that required fondant, which works perfect because my husband isn't that crazy about frosting. The only thing that didn't made me happy was the price. I wanted a small heart balloon on the top made of fondant, very small, very simple, and the price of it would have been almost the same amount of the whole cake, more expensive than covering the whole cake with fondant... just crazy. But that's my only complaint, period. Now my husband is a fan, my kids are fans and now we just can't wait to finish this one up so we can go get ourselves a coconut cake, or an orange cake, strawberry... gosh! so many options!!! read more
