This foundation has saved so many senior dogs! I have the pleasure of fostering for them because I know that the animals there are treated so well and they deserve all the help they can get. To take a senior animal that has very little chance of getting adopted out of the shelter or from an owner that passed away is a special kind of rescue. Then they make sure that the dogs and cats have the best life while on site, in foster homes, and that they get adopted into Loving homes. Also they make sure the pet has quality vet care for free. I have been involved with FFF for over 4 years and have adopted 5 dogs total. It is small (compared to others), but those involved are dedicated to what is important- providing love and comfort to senior dogs who have been left in the shelter system. I think you will find that most of the negative reviews stem from people who have never actually been to the rescue (and are basing their review off a phone call) or have had a personal bad experience (usually involving the return of a dog). I urge you to visit at an Open House and see for yourself what a unique and amazing place this is. I just got a text about a dog I wanted to adopt, but he had so many inquiries that I had no chance of getting him. Then I was informed that 'I didn't have the means ($) to care for him"!!! And that ( when I had to return one of our seniors) "you couldn't even return her in person"! My roommate had adopted 2 seniors ( one passed at 17) and then she died, leaving me to find a home immediately. She had just spent $5500 on her cancer surgery and didn't even ask for any reimbursement (which they provide). I even have a credit card specifically for vet bills. So, my roommate died, I had just torn my rotator cuff and couldn't drive and a volunteer gladly picked her up for me. I am so offended and disappointed! I just wanted to adopt a companion that would live out their days in a loving home. Piss on them! read more

After losing our little Sammy a few months ago, we finally decided to adopt a little companion for Charlie in mid-December, who was devastated just like us by not having Sammy around. We wanted a small senior for him, and we found a little cutie on FFF website and after filling out the application, we got an email from Krista requesting photos of our house and yard, and we obliged. An issue came up that part of our fence wasn't high enough, so we raised the fence from 28" to 42", which I thought was adequate for a 10-year-old 10-pound senior doggie we were trying to adopt. Krista emailed me back: unfortunately, we can't let you adopt this pet because she is very agile and could easily climb this 3.5 ft fence, but you are welcome to look at other available pets. We were upset and I emailed back saying that we already spent $110.00 to raise the fence and we can raise it higher if that's what it takes, we didn't get an answer from Krista, so I decided to send an email to Kelly Smisek, the founder of FFF, asking her why we weren't given a chance to raise the fence to their liking, especially after already spending money on it. We didn't get an answer from Kelly either. We don't care about the money, but the insensitivity and rudeness they displayed by not having enough consideration to answer our emails is inexcusable. My non bias take on this Foundation: I can only rate my experience with their funding that they offer for people in need. I rated a 3 because my experience was more disappointing than anything. I got denied for Care Credit and denied for even Scratchpay. I do not have any other options financially, and economical euthanasia was an option I did not want to immediately take. I reached out to them for help and was denied. I want to make it clear that the response was warm and genuine. I kindly disagree with some of these lower rated reviews with them being "cold" and I also feel that a person who gets approved for care credit should be GRATEFUL to get credit extended to them. However their (Frosted Faces) reasoning makes me wonder how they determine which family gets approved and which denied. As everywhere else that offers funding for animal related care, this foundation is also receiving an influx of requests, and for whatever reason my dogs' issues were not worthy enough of getting approved for funding- not even a partial funding. "They need to limit funding" and "feel free to reach out in the future". Unfortunately for my dog, he does not have a next time for me to be reaching out. I have applied desperately to other programs, with no other responses back yet, and we are running out of options at this point. This brings up a positive for Frosted Faces- they have a reasonable time frame of contact (unlike the other places I have applied to). If you reach out to them, I suggest you be prepared to get denied. Be prepared to have other choices, or in the event you have run out of choices, be prepared to make some tough decisions. One of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make was handing mom's beloved dog over to Frosted Faces. I was not in a position to keep her. She is 14 years old and I had lost hope of finding her a loving home. Then I found Frosted Faces. It was a heart wrenching experience. But within a couple of hours I received photographs of our beloved pet being a doted on by the founder and her husband that first evening. It gave me comfort to know she was not alone. Then came the amazing dental and veterinary work that was so needed to help mom's lifelong companion live out a healthy life. There were weekly photos of outings and her profile being shared on Facebook. With in a month they had found her a forever home! Those photos and the story were also shared. Please remember your pets in your estate plan. Don't assume one of your children can keep them after you're gone. If you have a trust, talk with your attorney about ways to provide for placement. Once the pandemic hit, I had eventually "hopped on the bandwagon" of opening my home to foster dogs. I had done several hours of research and stumbled upon Frosted Faces Foundation. I immediately signed up for their open house which takes place every Saturday and Sunday. Once there, one of FFF's dedicated volunteers walked me through the entire site and process of fostering and/or adopting. I was so impressed by the cleanliness of the premises and attention to detail that this organization goes through with every foster and adoption. I've fostered three dogs from FFF so far, and I am so incredibly happy to see them placed in a safe "furever home." Each of my fosters' families are perfect, and I am so grateful for FFF in providing me this opportunity and providing senior dogs a new lease on life. read more

I am so head over heels over Frosted Faces. I went to visit last month and started spending time with all the little dogs and it made my heart swell up to give them all some love. The facility is so well run and the dogs so well cared for. I can't believe how much they accomplish with so many dogs in need. We are going to start fostering tomorrow! This is a great organization who has a truly admirable mission - rescuing senior dogs and helping them live out their golden days, months, of years with a family who loves them. I've volunteered for a few rescues and what has really stood out to me about this organization is their transparency, honesty, and devotion to dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Their facility is also beautiful and shockingly clean considering it houses senior dogs AND cats. They've done such a nice job making a sanctuary space for these dogs (and volunteers, too)! I think what's most special about this organization is that they take on not only senior dogs but senior dogs with every medical issue under the sun - cancer, arthritis, partial paralysis, missing limbs, heart failure - you name it! Many rescues will not take a chance on seniors, let alone seniors with major medical issues. This group is not daunted at all by a dog's prognosis and that's truly amazing! read more

In animal rescue, you truly see some of the worst of the worst. You see dogs being relinquished to kill shelters because of the most ludicrous reasons, often times in terrible condition. You question humans often, and are making decisions on whose life to save constantly. You're balancing the need for quality care and trying to know when to let go. No wonder there are some bad reviews of Frosted Faces; Kelly and her team are doing their absolute best to screen out adopters who may turn in dogs to shelters without reason. Or not provide adequate treatment. To avoid the dog being right where it started, back at the shelter with limited options, even older now, and possibly being placed on a euthanasia list for growling out of fear. I can't say enough about FFF. The shelter is clean with love and attention for these sweet deserving dogs. Talk about commitment - every Sunday Kelly's husband Andy loads up as many dogs as available to go on a hike, get them outside, fresh air and attention. Some dogs can't walk well, no problem, strollers are provided. When a dog becomes a Frosted Face, it is guaranteed a safe, loving embrace to enjoy his or her final days/years/months. THAT is what matters about this organization the most, not a jilted potential adopter who was denied adoption. If Frosted Faces doesn't help these dogs, who will? Amazing organization! read more

Frosted Faces is AMAZING. During Covid, I started fostering for them and ultimately adopted my dog, Mandy, from them. I was a first-time adult dog owner (grew up with them) and the team at Frosted Faces is very encouraging and responsive to help out with any health concerns. My Mandy was ultimately diagnosed with a throat tumor and the FF team was so incredibly helpful getting her in to urgent care when her health concerns started. They have an amazing program to help support medical costs if you choose to do a forever foster. Their selfless love to animals is always there 24/7. This place owns my heart. My husband and I adopted a dog from here on March 2018, and she was my soul dog. The foundation covers medical for their dogs, so she got amazing vet care at SDBAH (they are fantastic too, btw). The owner of frosted faces is Kelly and her husband, Andy. I started volunteering at Frosted Faces last April. Right away I was impressed with how much the rescue coordinators and volunteers care about rescuing senior dogs and cats, and giving them their best life no matter how long it may be. Frosted Faces is an actual home that has been modified to be a safe, animal friendly facility. The kennels are cleaned multiple times daily, and there are 7 play yards for dogs to enjoy being outside. Dogs are constantly walked, bathed, and are given so much love and attention. I look forward to volunteering my time there each week. Three months ago I met Frosted Face Miller as a volunteer taking him to a vet appointment. I fell in love with him immediately. With two cocker spaniels at home we never thought we would adopt a bully breed! There was just a feeling that he needed us. As with all people looking to adopt, we went through a home inspection and brought our current dogs to Frosted Faces to see if all three dogs would get along. It was clear Miller was to be a part of our family! Miller has thrived in our home. It has become apparent to us that we didn't just choose Miller, he chose US to be his family! If you are looking for a senior dog or cat, I highly recommend Frosted Faces! To be a volunteer there is a privilege and we will continue to adopt from them! I have been a volunteer at FFF for about a year. I absolutely love this place and what they do for all of the animals. Kelly & Andy have the kindest souls. Everyone that works there are very helpful. One of many of my favorite things about Kelly is her kind voice. Today I witnessed Kelly stop what she was doing and drop to the ground to console a dog that had a seizure. She knew exactly what to do and laid on the ground with the dog until the seizure passed. I highly recommend this place if you love dogs and are looking to volunteer. This has been the worst experience dealing with an owner of a non-profit. Kelli is the most unempathetic person I have encountered. She will probably want to take down this review, however I have proof of our communication. I guess having my dad have complications and having him on his last hours of life was an inconvenience to Kelly as she refused to hear us out. We are being punished for returning a pet that after my dad took a turn for the worst we could not care for properly. It all happened so suddenly and I wanted to make sure the dog did not have to suffer through my depression. Well since we adopted two: one was very easy to take care of and adapted quick, the other we knew would be more work and we wanted to have the dog so much but with what happened the next day, we would not be able to provide the right attention. Imagine adopting two precious dogs and the very next day your dad is hospitalized with almost no chance of survival. We told Kelly this and instead of understanding after we said we could care for the smaller dog. She said that she would take both dogs. This was all because as I was told when I adopted one that they didn't want me to back out of the other dog. This was revenge for not keeping the dog they wanted to be adopted. My recommendation is that if you Choose to use this organization, be aware that any issue you bring out they will take your dog away just because they fee like it or want to teach you a lesson. Kelly is horrible and vindictive. I am more than willing to share the email thread to prove the conversation (with email address blacked out for privacy) so you can see how she responds and what she is really like. Kelly can say what she wants but it is clear she took both dogs out of spite. And also they don't really vet candidates, they just want to see your home. They never call references (why bother to ask for them) and they don't sit with you or call you to get to know you. So any thoughts or feelings she has of me and my fiancé are all in her head as she never talked to us or interviewed us. I love dogs and I knew what losing my dad will do to me and was trying to do the right thing. So to Kelly, sorry my dad's death bed was the day after we adopted the dogs. I am so sorry, next time I'll make sure to time a family emergency better so it does not bother you. read more

Frosted Faces is a great organization! My girlfriend and I found out about FFF through word of mouth and we submitted an application to become fosters. They got back to us very quickly and a date was scheduled for a home visit. Before the home visit we were able to meet Kelly and some of the volunteers at the Walk for Animals event and ended up seeing the dog, Frida, that we wanted to foster. Everyone at the event was really friendly and answered any questions that we had. After the event David came to our apartment to do the home visit and was really kind and you could tell he has passion for what he is doing. We drove out to Romona the following day and we were able to take Frida home that same day and couldn't be happier. I would highly recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt a senior pet! read more

I am beyond impressed with Frosted Faces Foundation. They are incredibly organized and very passionate about what they do. The animals in their care receive the best medical treatment, a clean and loving environment, access to play yards, and regularly go on hikes and outings to keep them engaged and happy. The family atmosphere extends to the volunteers, adopters, and followers and is both supportive and uplifting. They have open houses every weekend and many ways to volunteer. We are forever fosters for two senior Chihuahuas and have had a great experience. The Frosted Faces team did a great job talking to us about personalities and considerations for our home with two other senior dogs and three young children. They are very transparent and straight forward, and make diligent attempts to get to know the dogs and give prospective families as much info as possible to make educated choices. When I have had a medical concern with the dog, they are prompt to respond. The veterinarians they work with are excellent. These are senior dogs, many that have traveled a rough road,and potential fosters need to understand it's a collaborative agreement with FF to work as a team to provide love and care to the dog. I can't say enough good things about this senior dog rescue. I met Kelly and Andy (the owners of FFF) while I was volunteering at another dog rescue about 5 years ago. Kelly and Andy are both such caring, dedicated and outstanding people, the type of people you rarely meet. So it is not surprising that when they opened their own senior dog rescue FFF, they brought their same dedication, business savvy and passion to FFF. I know a lot of dog rescues have passionate people running them, but Kelly and Andy are also business smart. They run their rescue in a way that you can feel good about the care the dogs are getting, you know your donations are being used responsibly, and that the dogs are in a safe, well-cared for and clean environment. Kelly and Andy are transparent in everything they do and spend time and energy ensuring their supporters understand what they do and why. They also have constant communication with the families that adopt/foster their senior dogs, making sure the dogs continue to keep up on their medical treatment and getting updates and photos to share with fans and supporters. I have been to the FFF head quarters many times and the kennels and boarding areas are little havens for these dogs. This is not a crowded, noisy kennel, but a quiet, clean, calm resting area for the dogs. The play yards are big and often several dogs lay relaxing in the sun (or shade). Volunteers have time to sit and relax with a senior dog on their lap or play with the pups that are at FFF, including walking or hiking the dogs around the expansive property or trails nearby. The headquarters feel more like a sanctuary for these dogs than a rescue. I have not seen a rescue that dedicates itself to not only the difficult task of saving senior dogs, finding foster and forever homes for these dogs, but also supplying support and medical. Trust me, this is one non-profit you can feel good about supporting. Once you become part of the Frosted Faces Family, you will be hooked and continue to follow them on facebook and root for the rescue and safety of the next new senior rescue! This is the most amazing organization, with the biggest hearts. They save the most desperate animals in high-kill shelters and give them all the medical care they need and unconditional love. And they stand behind their rescues for life. If someone decides they can no longer care for a Frosted Faces animal, FFF takes that animal back and ensures it is well-cared for and loved. They do everything possible to make it easy to do something to help. You can temporarily foster, permanently foster or adopt. They even have a financial assistance program for people who need help giving their senior pets the care they need! I wish there were more selfless people like this, then we wouldn't have so many poor babies dying in shelters. read more

This is only a review of the "customer service", not the actual organization. I am sure this foundation does great work for the dogs it actually serves. This group does NOT take in dogs from the public, despite the incredibly deceptive wording on the website's Relinquishment page. While that page suggests they will take in dogs who can no longer remain in your care, that is not the case. I am not exactly clear what circumstances need to exist for FFF to take in a dog, but families should know that they cannot rely on this organization to rescue senior dogs who are no longer behaviorally safe within your home. My husband and I both called to get more information about FFF after being recommended by our dog trainer, who we have been working with for several years in order to safely manage our dog's anxious and territorial behaviors. Upon asking if FFF would be able to accept our dog, given a recent aggressive incident towards our young child, the owner became incredibly hostile and cruel, as other reviews here have stated. I do not want to get into the specifics of our call, especially as I have seen that the owner responds in a similarly harsh manner to reviews. I will just note that she commented that she receives "30 calls a day" from families wanting to give away their pets and find an "easy way out". Understanding that it must be difficult for her to have to listen to so many stories of families who feel they can no longer provide a loving home for their pets, I would strongly encourage FFF to change the wording on their Relinquishment page. The deceptive phrasing does imply that it is a rescue for families who cannot keep their dogs for a variety of reasons. To leave that wording up there only encourages families to reach out, and so for the owner to then attack them for doing what is encouraged by the site is just cruel. This is in no way an easy decision for any family, and her words made an already heartbreaking situation truly devastating. read more

I sought help from them for rehoming a 12 year old dog (not my dog), and they were extremely unprofessional and told me he was better off dead. "I don't even want to get involved." "We don't take dogs from bad owners." "A little bit of pink juice is better than what he's dealing with." I don't get aggravated easily, but they really struck a nerve with me. They couldn't even give me an alternative number to call and hung up on me. I was literally shaking with anger by the time they hung up on me. Needlesss to say, I personally will never recommend them to anyone. Ever. *Edit since the owner has replied* I was not "screaming" at them. Was I aggravated? Yes. Screaming and yelling? No. I was speaking in a tone that obviously let them know I was unhappy, but I do not scream. Additionally, the dog was not locked in a crate as they are claiming he was. He was in a large fenced dog run, and I explained that to them. I also explained that I had known the dog since he was born and that he was a very laid-back dog and did not require extensive exercise to "burn off" any energy. The only recommendation they gave me was a guess of a name of a rescue, with no additional information. No phone number, no website--nothing. Additionally, I will reiterate that I am not the owner of the dog and I was not the one that would have had any say of wether or not he would have been dropped off at a shelter, nor was he even in my back yard. I do not appreciate this organization misrepresenting what I had explained to them during their very poorly-handled phone call. read more

From the moment of our initial inquiry, until adopting our senior gal, and now fostering another little love nugget, my husband and I are so impressed by the compassion, honesty and professionalism of this non-profit! Every staff member has been very responsive to both email and text- anything we need is provided. We had never adopted a senior dog before, and did not know what to expect. I am very happy that our family chose Frosted Faces Foundation- our family felt very supported throughout the entire process! A friend and I are trying to find a rescue group that would take two elderly dogs that belong to a very ill neighbor. The lady at this foundation asked my friend if she was willing to make a "significant" donation for the care of these dogs. The donation was $5,000 per dog. These aren't even our dogs. The woman said that most people make arrangements for their dogs in a living trust. It was pointed out the neighbor has no assets and there was no way we would have these dogs euthanized. I really wanted to adopt from this place and my cat passed over a year ago so I really wanted to go somewhere nice and loved the reviews, I finally thought I was ready and was trying to contact to get an appointment, when I called it went to voicemail and I couldn't hear exactly what the email was and thought it was a store phone so I called a second time got it right and called one last time to make sure I got the right email, I get an answer the last call saying "what do you want?" I now think I am calling the wrong number with this unprofessional response, I ask if I am and she says "no it's the right number but you keep calling and calling what do you want?" Said I was just trying to get the email but nevermind, I understand you want to enjoy your days off but wish you could respond like on your days on because I would think you would still want people to visit your establishment. Unfortunately they have rules related to their rescues that some seem to disagree with. I find it interesting that some people expect them to change their rules for them.
