We adopted a dog from this place that was supposedly in good health and great with kids and dogs. The dog seemed fine when we met her so we took her home she seemed to be in some Pain with gentle Petting and bit my toddler after he per her , I'm assuming she had arthritis or a past injury. She didn't break the skin but it was enough warrant us returning her. We also took her to the vet who discovered her ears were very badly infected to the point where she was in tremendous pain , but she was so skittish we couldn't get near her to medicate them. I understand dogs can be different once brought into a new environment but my problem with this rescue is the lack of medical care and evaluating of the dogs behavior prior to adopting. If they could improve on these things they would probably be a great rescue. I'm sure the owner has good intentions and probably cares for the dogs. read more

There is something shady about this rescue I would recommend going to your local humane society. I do dog rescue in Seattle and my sister adopted a cute little dog from legend animal rescue she had to pay bills out of her own pocket while fostering and was not reimbursed. No shot records were provided after multiple attempts so my sister had to pay for shots as well which is unheard of in rescue. This seems to be a for-profit organization read more

DO NOT ADOPT AN ANIMAL FROM THIS PLACE!!! LIARS!!! GREEDY, NOT DOING IT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS!!! My daughter looked for a couple of months for just the right dog and thought she had found it here. She drove two hours for a meet and greet and was told the dog was friendly and socialized well with kids and small pets, having been housed with a Chihuahua, my daughter has a cat and this was a top concern of hers. The dog seemed very friendly and loving, but when they stopped for lunch, the dog spotted a small puppy several yards away, broke free out of my daughters grasp, slipping out of its collar and in a split second attacked the puppy. My daughter is devastated, she immediately returned the dog, the original person she adopted the dog from was not there and the woman (a relative) who took the dog back, told my daughter that the dog she had adopted, had never been in the same space as a small dog and had never been properly socialized and told her to never consider adopting from this rescue. My daughter spoke with an Animal Control officer and apparently there is an ongoing animal abuse case against the woman that runs it. So my daughter now has over $8000 in vet bills to pay for to save this puppy which was attacked by a dog she had for less than two hours. It is incredibly sad that greed can cause so much damage to all involved. What was supposed to be a happy day for her and the dog she was adopting, turned into a nightmare for so many. We are hoping that this rescue is shut down and the remaining animals can be placed in a safe and caring location. I adopted a dog from Sara some months ago. She told me that he hadn't been neutered, but that she would adopt him out to me if I agreed to have him neutered; she, of course, would pay for the surgery. Sara suggested that I take him to a vet she said she uses all the time, but she had no qualms about my taking him to my vet, and promised to sent me a blank check made out to them. It was at least 3 times over a period of several weeks that Sara either promised to, said she did, or provided a number of reasons why she couldn't -- mail the check. I made two appointments with my vet which I had to cancel because of the failure of a check from Sara to arrive. I finally took the dog in and had him neutered, and I paid the vet before I took him home. Like the other 1-star reviewers, my calls, texts and voice mails were not returned. After checking with several other rescues, I finally decided to go with Legend. Sarah was the most knowledgeable and helpful person at any of the rescues. I had some initial doubts after reading some of the reviews, but when I contacted on of the other reviewers, I discovered she was a former roommate who now owns a competing rescue and never adopted a single animal from Legend! The other reviewer wouldn't return my messages, so this is suspect as well. What can I say, I now have three Legend animals and not only do they get along together, but my four year old daughter can play with them in her room with no worries. I rescued my adorable puppy from her. She was great on the phone and was honest about her dogs and all of their personalities. I went to go look at one of the dogs and instantly fell in love. After some paperwork and a beautiful view of her ranch I got to bring her home. She's the best dog I could have ever asked for. read more

BEWARE!! BEWARE!! I was interested in a dog from this rescue. When I contacted Sara about the dog (before she had even posted him) and inquired about adoption fees, she said it would only be what the vet charges to have him neutered and microchipped. I inquired how he did the day after his alleged procedure and she said she hadn't picked him up yet. So obviously, an overnight stay was gong to be included with the vet fees. I contacted my friend to tell her I had filled out an application to adopt the dog and that he was being neutered and microchipped. My friend then informed me the dog had already had those procedures and sent me copies of documentation from the original owner. When I texted photos of the documents to Sara, she replied with, "I could of sworn there were huevos back there lol." SHE WAS CAUGHT IN HER LIE!! I don't believe someone who runs a rescue would mistake an intact dog for a neutered one. Anyway, Sara then followed up telling me she had over 50 applications on the dog. I also find that hard to believe as at that point the dog had only been posted as available for about a day and a half. Of course, I was not offered the chance to adopt the dog and give him a loving home. BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE!! She is a dishonest rescuer out to scam people instead of making good choices for the animals. It is very sad for the animals. I would give zero stars if that was an option. read more

I have worked with Sara for 3 years now, and met her when I adopted maybe the greatest dog I have ever owned...Zippo. Sara was then, and is now AMAZING. I have seen this lady dropper feed a field mouse her daughter found in the horse field. Since Zippo I have fostered for her as well as other rescues, and you will find no one more fair and honest then Sara. She is truly an animal lover, and advocate. read more

DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS "RESCUE"!!! We adopted a dog from here that was supposedly a therapy dog, but after being around it for 24 hours I highly doubt it was officially trained as such, rather was just self-certified. At any rate (and not due to this, as I was just looking for a companion for my own dog) the adoption did not work out. This dog became aggressive towards my dog and also began growling at my boyfriend and my male neighbor. We contacted Sarah immediately, as I did not want to risk a dog fight (mastiffs), nor the safety of the people around. Sarah agreed to meet us back at her house/the rescue, but was in a hurry. We met her and gave the dog back; she said she would send us our refund the next day (this was a Sunday, April 9th). We waited patiently one week, checking the mail for our money, but none came. We called Sarah; she texted back saying a check had just been sent and that she was in the hospital. We wished her well and waited another week. Still no money, so we called/texted again, she responded that she had done a stop payment on the first check and had issued another. She apologized and we figured it got lost in the mail. Another week passed, still no money and Sarah has clearly blocked our numbers. She will not answer our calls or texts, does not respond to our emails and is effectively stealing our money. I have done a complaint with the BBB and they have reached out to her twice on this matter and she will not respond to them either. Meanwhile Sarah continues to seek donations for the animals on her property (don't even get me started on the state of affairs there! Disgusting, sad environment of animals in crude enclosures. She'll take anything in if she thinks she can make some money on it.) Any communication we have received from Sarah since the transaction has clearly been a lie -- she was pregnant, told us at one point she hadn't responded because she was in the hospital having the baby, then 3 weeks later another person told us she just had the baby 48 hours ago. How many times will this lady have this kid?! All lies, she steals your money, has too many animals to truly know their personalities so who knows what you'll end up bringing home and she will say anything to get cash in hand. If you do get a dog (or other animal) from Sarah/Legend Animal Rescue, you WILL feel like you are rescuing it, though: that place is a dive. Oh, and the animal will be filthy. Absolutely FILTHY. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS WOMAN/THIS RESCUE. Sarah is a liar. read more

We visited several different rescues in the area looking for our next family member and were put off by really high adoption fees and having other dogs pushed on us that weren't what we were looking for. Sarah was amazing and took the time to talk about our home, our family and each dog that fit our profile. We even got to pet the rescued horses! We have adopted a plethora of pets from many animal rescue groups in San Diego. Most of the groups have been wonderful to deal with, and Legend is right up there with the best. Sarah is terrific to talk to, and has a wealth of information that she kindly shares. Her animals are very well taken care of, and she has all the records to show that. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, she will take the pet back and find it another great home. The fee she charges is very fair and less then most rescues.
