Yum yum yum! I'm a newcomer to Denton, and so far, one of the things I've learned about this little town is that oftentimes, the best food is found in places you would least expect. I was out driving around with a friend when we stumbled upon this gem. The exterior (and for that matter, interior) doesn't seem like much... Just an old diner-type that looks like no one really cares for its upkeep. But what Frosty's lacks in decor, it makes up with its food! I got the chicken fried chicken (comes with gravy, fries, toast, and a small side salad), and it was way too good! I mean it... TOO GOOD! Dangerously good... My friend and I looked at each other as if to say, "Oh no. We're about to gain a lot of weight for the remainder of our time in Denton..." My stomach is growling right now just thinking about it! We also got milkshakes, which were quite good, and didn't stick to the inside of the straw like a lot of other places. I can't wait to come back, and try out the rest of the ice cream/shakes/malts/misc. dessert! I hear they're famous for their root beer floats, so I'll keep that in mind! Food is just okay, mainly a good place to go if you're not wanting to pay much for food. The highlight was definitely the root beer float. This is pretty much what saved the review for me. This is a decent place unless you are going fot the Root Beer and then it is outstanding. The Root Beer is very good but the burgers are just so-so. The atmosphere is pretty cool retro joint with a very interesting juke box. I have stopped here several times since I live just down the road and I have seen some rude service. The regular guy is always very nice but there is another guy who can be very impatient with customers who don't know his acceptable order routine. Update: After getting a response from the proprietor of Frosty's, I agreed with him that the burger is pretty good for the price. I upgraded to 3 stars because of the value. read more

Me, my fiance, and daughter went here to have a nice little family dinner tonight and will never be coming back after our experience with the owner Jim. He was extremely rude to my 5 year old daughter after she tried to ask him for a lid for her cup and when my fiance called up there to try to and talk to him, Jim told him to F*** himself. It's extremely unprofessional and the owner is a condensending jerk. Top it off, the food is HORRIBLE. The burgers are frozen, not fresh and fries are bland. I love the Retro 50's feel this place has! The staff is very friendly and the Cheeseburger I had a very distinct flavor from all the "freshly made" burgers I've tried. There is seating outside for those of you who like to eat outdoors. The parking is the only thing that was a little tricky to find given their small space. Three and a half stars rounds up to four stars! My hubby & I finally visited Frosty Drive N last night and it was worth the wait. The multiple stars are for their root beer, the wonderful service (especially from the warm & friendly Patrick), and the value of our meal. Their root beer and root beer floats were awesome and the frosty mug was a special bonus. The place was packed inside as Piper had her first birthday party there. Even though they had a bday party going on (with the bday girl opening her presents for 30+ minutes-according to one party member), they were serving customers promptly and in a courteous manner. We got our root beer and root beer float quickly after paying and our hot food was ready shortly after. I tried to get one of the other servers to tell me if they use cane sugar in their root beer when I got a to go box. sigh. He only (with deserved pride) told me that they made it there. Stop #2 on my Burger Safari.... Frosty Drive-in (aka Mr. Frosty). What can I say about this burger. It's a classic. Old-Fashioned Drive-in style cheeseburger. Grilled bun, shredded lettuce, mayo or mustard, onions and pickles. Burger patties are thin and hand-pressed and they top it with a slice of real cheese - not processed stuff. (I opted for Mayo-hold the onion). Paired mine up with an order of the crinkle cut fries. VERY classic... VERY tasty. You get two patties on the regular cheeseburger and they don't over-do the fixin's. The patty tastes like a hamburger hot off the griddle... dosen't appear to be flame-cooked, and not much seasoning added - just salt and pepper - simple and basic. Not a tiny burger, but not a monster, either... just right. A good balance between meat, veggies and bun. I'm not sure how to describe the over-all taste of this burger, except to say that it's reminicent of the drive-ins my Daddy took me to when I was a little girl. Pricing is quite reasonable and the atmosphere is a little worse for wear, but it's still like stepping back in time. It's a true-to-life old style drive-in... only no car hops. You'll have to walk up to the inside counter to place and pick-up your order, but they serve 'em up hot and fresh! They don't make 'em until you order 'em. I think that's part of the reason they keep the patties thin and give you two... that way they cook fast, and you're not waiting long for your order. I am also of the opinion that they have the best soft-serv ice cream in town... Had mine in a coke float. Tasted just like a memory. :) My yelp rating for this one is a 4 out of 5... but on my 10 point Safari scale, I'm giving it a 7. If you enjoy retro or miss the 19 50s, then this is the restaurant for you. They haven't even updated the place since then or it seems. The rootbeer is home made and delicious. Veggie burgers have noticeable veggies in them. The regular burgers are juicy. We also love the cheese fries. They have a large menu. The only drawbacks are stained ceiling tiles, restroom looks like it has not been cleaned since the 50s, and tiles chipped, black, and dirty. If you can overlook the dirt and damage and close your eyes when you go to the restroom, this is a great place for a burger. read more

Okay so I love burgers I'd like to say I am a burger connoisseur and these are about one of the best that I ever had this place makes me want to live in Denton the root beer I was told was made in house and it felt like it because the root beer was real good but one problem would have to be customer service the guy who took our order was kind of rude especially after we said it was our first time there if this was improved I'd gladly give them 5 stars other than that I'd recommend them to people because the service was tolerable but the food was great read more

First things first... YUM! If you crave the old fashioned hamburgers from a small diner this is definitely the place for you. In my hometown we had a place like this and I missed it so much. If you come here you have to get a number 3 hamburger, they are delicious! I keep forgetting to add cheese so be in mind it doesn't come with it by default. Dreamsicle shake....Every single time. I order this and its downed before we get home or to our destination. NO SHAME. You can't go wrong with the Oreo either. And if you love onion rings..(who doesn't?) These are amaze balls. There large cut rings perfect for sharing. Not too sweet or over battered. I can't personally review the hamburgers, but DH loves them and scarfs it down, their not small by any means so you will be filled up. Sitting outside in the summer/ spring when it's nice out is great- sure it's not a fancy place- but it's nostalgic of 'what it was like back then' (Since I'm not old enough to know the 60's 70's etc.sorry 80's baby) Lastly, every time we come Patrick is awesome. My wife and I decided we'd go try Frosty's for the first time and we were greatly disappointed. The gentleman who took our order was very nice and did recommend some things for us. Other then him, all the other employees just seemed depressed or disinterested in being there. There was no life in the building and it was 7pm on a Saturday. We decided to get our own burgers and share a fry. The burgers were hot but tasted like cafeteria burgers. The regular fry was enough for two people but they were over cooked and had no flavor at all. When you think of old school burger shops, most of the time an effort is placed on keeping the old school charm and nostalgia. Frosty's just comes across as old, warn down and tired. read more

Though I went to UNT starting in 1990, I somehow missed Frosty's while I was in school. Corrected this oversight today driving to Denton from Flower Mound with my father. The restaurant itself is like stepping back into the 50's. Patrick was quite friendly, and did a great job of taking care of everybody. The place was pretty busy at 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon, but he still managed to chat with us. Tables were clean, nice trip back in time. The root beer was incredible as advertised. I love the stuff, and have never had better. The soft serve ice cream + the homemade root beer made for a wonderful float. The fries were piping hot and crispy, and the cheeseburger was amazing. I tried the special thousand island dressing, loaded up with veggies. Quite tasty. As soon as I got home, I jumped on Facebook, and made sure that my UNT/TWU alum friends knew about this treasure. Patrick et all, thank you so much for a great experience, we will be back soon, and often! Update: have been back four times now, and each time I've left with a smile on my face.
