Rooster's is a Denton institution, and for good reason! The food is consistently great, although I'd argue their non BBQ items are even better than the BBQ. My favorites are the Rooster Tails (fried onions) and the chips and queso, but the real stars of the menu are the burgers. They're always fresh, hot, and juicy. The free peanuts are a nice touch, and they offer daily specials as well. I really miss the Bloody Mary bar, which was always a lot of fun, but their Sunday special makes up for it with a generous double for just $7. There's always a game on TV, which is a welcome break when you've had enough politics to last a lifetime. The servers and bartenders are consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful. It was a last-minute decision, but I'm happy we tried it out. I was craving BBQ and Rooster's Roadhouse had the menu for it. The place has an eclectic decor and seating on two levels. There's a full bar on both floors as well. The staff was pretty attentive, but the wait for food took a long time. I was happy the cocktails came pretty quickly and were well-made. The food was all pretty good for the most part not wowed but good! I have no complaints about my plate; it came with a great portion of food and was reasonably priced for BBQ. I ordered pulled pork and a side of corn and tomato salad and coleslaw. The sides were different from what I've had before, but I did enjoy them. Their coleslaw is more vinegar than mayo-forward. The pulled pork was well-seasoned, and the side of BBQ was the perfect match. My margarita tasted as if they made the mix in-house, and I prefer this. Store-bought mixers are usually either too sweet or too sour. However, if it is store-bought, I'm impressed! This was not a sweet margarita. When I walked in, it was packed. The staff that greeted me told me where I could place a to-go order. I sat down and the 2 minutes later the bartender greeted me and asked for my order, very friendly. I place it and she asked me if I wanted something to drink, which was very nice. On to the plate I ordered the 2 meat plate and decided on double brisket with slaw. I'm rated this plate 3 stars because the brisket didn't taste smoked and it was tough. The slaw is a little on the sweet side and chips were hard and soft at the same time. The bbq sauce that came with this plate was the best part of this plate. Will I go back? The food is good but I will never go back there. I also want to warn others not to go there. We got our ticket to pay and my husband left a tip of $5.00. Well I guess the waitress didnt think was enough and changed it to 50.00 on a 33.00 ticket. We have disputed with our credit card company and Roosters sent a bogus printed receipt not the one you fill in the tip and total. Now our credit card company has closed the case and wont reopen it even with talking to the Fraud department Supervisor. So if you do not want Roosters to steal from you too. We stopped in as a party of 5 Sunday evening, and were acknowledged right away by the bartender but had to wait a little over 5 mins for someone to actually come and seat us. Our server was very nice and efficient. We ordered fried pickles and fried jalapeños as well as the queso, salsa and chips - everything was yummy. My kids both ordered the steak fingers and fries and enjoyed their meals. We ordered two single meat plates with chopped meat- chopped brisket onion rings and okra and the Tennessee Texas hot sandwich with chips. Tennessee Texas hot sandwich was misleading bc it was not spicy although the breading was red and was not flavored. It was very underwhelming but everything else was great. I will say, Bathrooms were small and dirty. My son went into the men's restroom and walked right back out stating it was too dirty for him to use. If in the area, we would prob stop again. read more

We ordered tenderloin cheesesteak and a double burger, with a to-go order of ham. And then we waited..... And waited..... And waited for over an hour, before the food arrived. No fault of the waitress, she advised they only had 1 fryer working (needed for side of okra and kettle chips). Food finally arrived and it was good, but nothing great. We may give it another try sometime and will sit inside (seemed pretty lively and a good dive bar). The service was okay--our server was friendly but not very consistent when it came to drink refills. The food overall was average at best. My wife ordered the barbecue, which she said was below average. One of my sons had chicken strips, which were just standard--nothing memorable. My other son got a patty melt and said it was just "okay." I ordered a burger that was also just average--decent enough to eat, but nothing that would make me want to return. The atmosphere was about what you'd expect from a bar-style restaurant. There was good seating, and TVs all around, so I was able to catch some of the Women's College World Series while we ate. That was probably the highlight. Ultimately, while the experience wasn't terrible, it definitely wasn't great either. If I'm ever back in Denton, I won't be returning to Rooster's. read more

The fries were as limp as my enthusiasm after the first bite, and the main dish tasted like it had been run over by the Roadhouse itself. We ordered barbecue and it was a fabulous choice. it came with chips, Texas toast, and spicy pickles. My wife thought they were too hot; I thought they were just right. She said she was a "weenie." Roosters is a cute and inexpensive spot with a menu ranging from bbq to southern staples like chicken fried steak. Wish I had been hungrier, everything we got was so good!
