The burgers were quite good size and the food was more than enough for all 4 of us. Fries were a bit over salted for my taste. But shaking some salt off was good enough. We stopped here on the way down to Newport Coast. Three of us... 2 burgers, 1 spicey chix sandwich . The #1 burger was reported to be not so good-thin dry patty, the #15 burger was reported to be ok. My spicey chix sandwich wasn't bad. It came out hot & crispy. The burgers added the med/sized upgrade of drinks & fries for $2. more ea. With tax & fee of 4% service chg, it came out to $44.00 cash. If you want to use a cc, it's a 4% fee. The place is an older looking bldg & only outside dining, which it was too cold for. Would I come back? Probably not. This was the best spot to find, it might be the only place for miles and miles. It's a locals spot for sure, they say it's "The Best Food In Town" on the sign and I believe them. There was only 1 guy holding down the whole place, all the orders. He was turning out burgers and shakes with amazing speed. It's a greasy spoon type of place. I'll vouch for the quality of the grease. Double bacon BBQ burger was great. The chicken strips were good enough and the shakes speak volumes. If I ever find myself back in buttonwillow I hope it's lunch time. read more

Frosty King is LEGIT! This location off of I-5 is so much better than chick fil a, in n out, or any diners. Such a cool vibe, the owners and workers are so nice and friendly, and the food is great. Smoothest ice cream I've ever had and everything from the burgers to the chicken sandwhich was perfect. Fries nice and crispy too, and they have ranch! We were heading north and it is a close stop off the freeway so we were happy Yelp reviews led us here. Had an avocado burger and chocolate shake - both good. Very nice young man operates the business. They have drive through but we wanted to study the menu so we ordered at the window and relaxed at the table while we waited. Low key, friendly stop. There's nothing I like more than a cool independent old-school burger joint, and nothing I like less than giving a cool independent old-school burger joint a bad review. However, Frosty King insisted on it. As we drove up I-5, we resisted the temptation to go chain, so we drove off the Interstate three miles to decaying Buttonwillow. About the only place with food was Frosty King, and it looked old and shabby, but that's not going to stop me. Heck, that encourages me. Frosty King was deserted at 5pm on a Saturday, which was a bad sign. Even was we got to the window, it seemed like it was closed. But, eventually an older guy (my age) showed up to take our order. Not knowing what we wanted, I asked for a recommendation. I got the ol' "everything's good" claim. So, I pressed him, "There must be something that's special." Nope, apparently. According to him, the quality of everything on the menu is exactly the same. That is not a good sign. Trying to get information about the various menu items was like pulling teeth. Had we not felt bad for the sad little establishment and the town, we would have left. So, we ordered chili cheese fries. Had the guy been more forthcoming, we would have ordered a couple of burgers and more. But that was not to be. As it turned out, the chili (w/ beans) cheese fries were serviceable. Not great, but certainly not awful. Crinkle cut fries added a bit of interest. The amount of cheese was less than you'd expect on chili cheese fries, but that was fine with me--I thought the balance was fine. Anyway, the experience was less than satisfactory. One thing a place like this has to offer is personality and enthusiasm. Frosty King had neither, and that probably explains the lack of customers at a prime time for dining. Sadly, definitely not worth the three-mile drive from I-5. I wish it had been. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant since it's a few miles off the beaten path of chain restaurants. We ordered a Philly cheesesteak which was made to order and very good as well as the side of zucchini sticks. The Texas burger with onion rings was also worth going back for.
