The smallest signs that said "not for bags" were written in sharpie on tape. I was sure I picked all the bag eligible items but when I went to check out every item was rung up. So instead of 7 dollars it came out to 23. In response to owner- I looked for the signs as best I could, I thought all these things I picked out were good to go. The signs are very small and not obvious so it's hard to tell what is individually priced and what's not. Everything in the store has a price on it. But yes next time I will triple read the signs to avoid paying 22 dollars for old pins and beads!:)

Win, whom I am assuming was not just sales but perhaps the manager, was extremely apologetic. Rather than turn us away, she let us browse , saying that she was teaching the class but wouldn't have time to help us in real time. She let us know that we could flag her down if we had questions. We really enjoyed ourselves. The store is much larger than any local yarn store I have been to previously, and there are many unique and different yarns. Win came to help us after her class, and could not have been more wonderful. What started out as a browse, turned into some nice purchases. It's a gem of a store, and I look forward to going back on my next trip up north.

In my case, there were some yarns that I liked, and they found the right projects for my taste and skill level, made sure I was kitted out, and taught me the techniques I'd need. In case you need patterns, they've got them. There's a full room dedicated to books. Don't miss the clearance section! They also do knitting workshops during week days by reservation, for a very modest fee. They also have classes, though they do fill out fast!

One you enter, you go through a small room into another and then up a couple of concrete stairs, then you're there. They still have the best selection in the area (and almost the only selection that I know about south of Burien).

And I supported it wholeheartedly despite sometimes finding items slightly cheaper elsewhere. Additionally, as an art educator I always suggested it to my students for their value, as well as excellent and knowledgeable customer service. Unfortunately, I'm very disappointed to say both superb customer service and cost value are gone. Firstly, I learned from my students that student discount was no longer available. Then after my last visit, I was stunned how much the prices have increased. Still, I remained a dedicated patron. After coming home I realized one of the expensive wooden panels had a substantial gouge in the corner - simply too noticeable to try fixing. I confidently returned to the store but was told they would not take back the damaged items - because they couldn't verify it was damaged before my purchase. The associate was unbearably rude and dismissive. One my way out I expressed my profound disappointment with the current direction of this trusted business with another associate, only to have the associate I originally spoke with catch up with us. Now they changed their song, saying they could accept the damage item but I was very lucky because it's not something they always do. What?! The associate appeared to be making up policies as they went along. In the end I kept the damaged wooden panel, as I will keeping my business away from this place.

Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw what I had been missing all this time!! Truthfully, I thought it was more of a craft store than a book store; but I was completely wrong. There are many, many shelves and aisles of books - much more than I thought there would be. Both "parts" of the store, the books and the craft, are plentiful. Book 'N' Brush have a great selection of all genres of books - adults, teens, kids - and it's already great to have these selections in a local store. Physical space side of things - the aisles are wide, the shelves are deep, book covers are displayed, top sellers are spotlighted - everything is easy to see and the store is easy to navigate. The staff was very friendly with me. Checking in when I walked in and then let me wander and look around without being pushy or making me feel like they were hovering over me. Perfect!! Two of them take cards but only one take cash. Then there is two regular cashier stands. My friend and I realize that we need to come here for crocheting/knitting and sewing projects.
