We had heard of KINNEY BLVD from the FRIDAY Food Truck Cookout. I learned that that's where they filmed the last scenes in the movie CHEF!!! I really like ice cream shops that have unique flavors and high quality flavors and this place delivered on both fronts. I sampled a bunch of flavors and the coffee and nuts flavor was pretty good, but ended up getting the strawberry with black pepper and the chocolate brownie on a waffle cone. Both of those flavors were pretty solid, I liked the chocolate brownie a lot more than the strawberry, the strawberry had portions where it tasted straight like strawberry syrup that was a bit too sweet for my liking (even though I have a sweet tooth) The worker was nice even though we had like 4-5 samples before deciding what to buy without any pressure so that was nice. I like that they give napkins and a spoon as well if you ask. The only negatives were the price and I wish the waffle cone was made fresh right on the spot. But otherwise, would come back again!

Such is the case for Saffron & Rose, a Terhangeles staple delivering frozen dessert to the surrounding Persian community for nearly 50 years. Over the years, the unique flavors have been lauded by Anthony Bourdain and the New York Times alike, and the original Westwood location remains a local favorite. Saffron & Rose shares real estate with a Greek restaurant and an osteopathic medicine clinic. Patrons on the patio speak Farsi over their ice cream. Natural light shines in through the wide windows onto the saffron-shaded room. The walls are decorated with Saffron & Rose-branded, ice cream-themed photographs. The top-lit ice cream display is organized into a vibrant rainbow. Industrial fridges are well-stocked with pints of each available flavor. Persian dance music echoes around the room. My partner and I visited on a weekend mid-afternoon, and the shop was bustling. The staff gave us a rundown of Saffron & Rose's most popular flavors before opening up the door to samples. Broadly, the ice cream was extra-thick, almost like caramel, and full-bodied in flavor. Our consensus favorite flavor was the intense Saffron with Pistachio, complete with plenty of chopped nuts. Meanwhile, the Pink Rose amped up the sweetness of the traditional White Rose flavor with California cactus pear. Lastly, the Faloodeh was a change of pace, with a noodle-like consistency and unique rosewater essence; it paired excellently with the complementary cherry syrup. Other fun flavors ranged from the spa-esque Cucumber to the tangy Passionfruit. Our Medium (triple scoop) was $7.50, and the portion was reasonable without feeling skimpy. The ice cream lineup was fun and flavorful; notably, I found that the ice cream quality exceeded that of peer Persian creamery Mashti Malone (also worth trying). I would definitely pay Saffron & Rose a return visit next time I'm in the neighborhood.

They don't overwhelm you with massive amounts of ice cream, which is nice and the price is reasonable. 3 suggestions: 1. better signage = I didn't realize you could only get 1 scoop (that is not listed on the board) 2. maybe post suggested flavor combos for people that are new to Persian ice cream 3. empty the trash can filled with discarded cups regularly, it was over flowing.

They offer a great variety of ice cream flavors, and one of the coolest parts was watching them make the waffle cones fresh on the spot. The ice cream itself was rich, creamy, and tasted high quality. Paired with a warm, freshly made waffle cone, it made for an excellent treat. The staff was friendly and happy to offer samples before ordering. One thing to note: if you change your flavor selection after you've already paid, they'll need to process a refund and ring up a new transaction. Overall, we had a great experience. Between the delicious ice cream, fresh waffle cones, and friendly customer service, it's definitely a place I'd visit again!

Vietnamese Rocky Road: 7/10, not sure if scooped the right flavor as it didn't taste much like Rocky road or Vietnamese coffee ice cream 3. Pandan Rafaello: 9/10, awesome if you like pandan flavor with white chocolate 4. On the menu of Turn Dough is belgian waffles, soft serve gelato, milkshakes and chimney cakes! For those who don't know what chimney cakes are; they are a traditional snack from Hungary that is made from sweet yeast dough that is rolled into a long rope and baked around a cylinder. Here at Turn Dough; you can actually watch them make and bake the chimney cake. It was really hard to choose what dessert to get here as everything looked so yummy. This place happens to be the first place to offer chimney cake in Los Angeles and so you know I just had to try that. Even choosing which chimney cake to get was hard! They've got 18 different types or you can even create your own! From oreo to nutella to coconut to Disney inspired or unicorn inspired; they've got something for everyone! I ended up getting the very cute Minnie Macaron chimney cake which has Italian-style soft-serve gelato, French Macarons, Rainbow sprinkles, and a handmade Minnie Mouse bow on top. It was definitely a magical Disney inspired creation. We also got the Nutella Dream. This one is a must try for Nutella lovers. It's a chocolate delight that even includes Kinder chocolates! Tastewise; I really liked the freshly baked chimney cakes from here. The chimney cakes are so soft and fluffy. My gelato ice cream melted pretty quickly but I still enjoyed the sweet, creamy soft serve. One has the option to get the chimney cake upside down in a cup and I have to say that is not a bad option because it helps with eating the ice cream and you won't have to worry about the oozy, dripping mess hehe that you will get a with a cone.
