We had heard of KINNEY BLVD from the FRIDAY Food Truck Cookout. I learned that that's where they filmed the last scenes in the movie CHEF!!! In the ice cream shop, they had different flavors of different local chefs. I chose the CARAMEL ICE CREAM in a waffle cup. As for my Partner, he chose the STRAWBERRY SORBET in a waffle cone. This ice cream store is one of my favorites and their limited editions are always interesting. This time I got Hong Kong milk tea with toasted white chocolate. It has bold flavor of Hong Kong milk tea and chunks of chocolate pieces in it. There is a public parking lot in the back and also street parking are available. Was my first time trying Salt and Straw and we wanted some premium good quality ice cream and this place hit the spot. I really like ice cream shops that have unique flavors and high quality flavors and this place delivered on both fronts. I sampled a bunch of flavors and the coffee and nuts flavor was pretty good, but ended up getting the strawberry with black pepper and the chocolate brownie on a waffle cone. Both of those flavors were pretty solid, I liked the chocolate brownie a lot more than the strawberry, the strawberry had portions where it tasted straight like strawberry syrup that was a bit too sweet for my liking (even though I have a sweet tooth) The worker was nice even though we had like 4-5 samples before deciding what to buy without any pressure so that was nice. I like that they give napkins and a spoon as well if you ask. The only negatives were the price and I wish the waffle cone was made fresh right on the spot. One of the things that impressed me most about Salt & Straw is that they train their staff so well. I came in when there was enough time to not feel bad about a leisurely taste-and-chat. During which the employee gave me a cool rundown on the difference between various starting concoctions that can become ice cream vs. sherbet. I was like 'wow, they know their craft here.' And what a craft is is. I'm a sucker for several of the recurring flavors like woodblock chocolate that gets atomized into a fine dust and launched into every spoonful of the ice cream for a sort of woody, salty chocolate experience. When there's a line, I like to just head right for the freezers, pick pre-packed pints of whatever sounds most delicious to me at the time, and I get those to go. I love salt and straw so much. One of the best parts of it is that they seem to expect people to ask for samples and I love how they have the spoon dispenser easily accessible. I can't imagine giving anything less than 5 stars to this location, or really Salt & Straw in general! They are consistently generous with their portions and my favorite is the single split scoop combo (just $0.50 extra for a split scoop)! Every month they usually have a new series and it really makes getting ice cream that much more exciting every time. I appreciate that the workers are so patient and they are generous with all the samples I ask for. I don't get angry or annoyed when the line is long because they truly take their time with each customer. And this location, this evening was no exception. Not a ton of space, probably just for like 4 people to sit and a few people to stand on the opposite wall, but it's still something!
