Such a good experience! Found this place on Yelp and popped in kinda spontaneously. What a cute shop in an equally cute little courtyard. The employee was helpful and super friendly, answering questions and letting us sample a few flavors. We each got two flavors in our small size, and the portion was overflowing and plentiful. I like how our cups were topped off with a little piece of waffle cone. I'm a sucker for thoughtful small touches. read more

I've passed by this place often and just never tried it. I decided after eating at the vegan spot next door to get some dessert. I like how you are able to sample the gelato before choosing. Not a huge spot but they do have a couple of tables inside and outside. I was thinking of just getting the baileys gelato until the lady working the counter told me to also try the ricotta and fig. OMG! Both of those are so good and the waffle cone even tasted divine! I will definitely stop by here again when I'm in the area. 10/10!!! read more

Dolcenero Gelato is in a small plaza with some other businesses and is really a grab and go spot. However, there's a good amount of outdoor seating. I had lunch already, so I ordered a small coffee gelato ($6.95) for dessert. Even for a small, it was a generous scoop! The coffee gelato tasted excellent. Parking is a challenge here. Very limited paid street parking on the street or try your hand with finding a free street parking spot a few blocks away. Since I was in the area for an exhibit, I parked across the street at Edgemar and got validated. read more

This place is an interesting twist on gelato.. first of all Al out of their flavors are not your ordinary ones you would expect. (Ex. Stracciatella, Gianduia, dolcenero etc.. so you may have to ask what those are exactly in English. Needless to say they are all. Rey good. I wanted something. Egan so I chose sorbet, flavor mixed passion fruit and mango. Let me tell you, on a hot day it hit the spot! They put a cute little waffle cone chip in each cup and make it look cute. As far as the atmosphere, it's located in a courtyard style area between several stores, and you can be seated there and enjoy your ice cream. This is my favorite gelato place outside of Italy. The vegan flavors are plentiful and amazing, especially the coffee and dark chocolate. The dark chocolate and melon combo is also delicious, something I learned from a gelato man in Florence. The ladies who help us are always so welcoming and kind. They happily let us sample as many flavors as we like. Smiles are abundant here, sweet people alongside the sweet treats. It's a compact little shop with a two small tables inside and six outdoor tables reserved for Dolcenero customers. It's our favorite spot to hang out with the pups on summer weekends. read more

I wondered where I had been that I just recently figured this group of stores/cafes/restos in Ocean Park, which sat next to each other, offering various amazing stuffs like Japanese handcrafted goodies and ingredients, European groceries and snacks, Italian gelato, European breakie, even Japanese and Thai foods. Dolcenero was one of them, I happened to just discover when trying to find where to go for dessert around the neighborhood. In the day they provided outdoor seats at the open court right in the middle of all these stores. Each of them still had their own areas, but plenty of spaces available. They got pretty busy at breakfast till lunch time as you could imagine it's nice to hang around and chill there over good meals. However I would say the turnaround time was quick enough. Dolcenero itself opened till late evening so I could get my ice cream craving satisfied even post dinner. My first try was Gianduja, Salted Caramel and Cheesecake; which all were lovely and it's challenging for me to rank them. I would simply say ask for samples and make your call. Besides, good suggestion is surely go for multiple flavors while you're there ;) For the price, the size was decent enough so perfect to share especially if you wanna go for more flavors. They did have variety of options for sorbet and vegan flavors if you opted for non-dairy ones. read more

I have been searching for a place as delicious as Bacio di Latte (located in Century City) and have been unsuccessful until now. Dolcenero Gelato is just as delicious. The chocolate/hazelnut flavor has the perfect amount of sweetness. The texture is creamy and soft. The prices here beat both Bacio di Latte and Anita Gelato. They have sugar free options as well and their portions are huge. The service was exceptional. We were able to try as many flavors as our hearts desired. We were looking for dessert after getting dinner at KazuNori and found this cute gelato place within walking distance! Located in a tiny plaza, this gelato place offers a variety of flavors including dark chocolate, hazelnut, pistachio, and caramel. We couldn't resist ordering an affogato even though it was in the evening. We tried the affogato with dark chocolate gelato and a cup of their pistachio. Both treats were absolutely delicious. The dark chocolate gelato was so rich and decadent. It offered the perfect sweetness to the espresso coffee. The pistachio flavor had the perfect nuttiness as well. I'm already dreaming of coming back and ordering another affogato! read more

I had a medium size gelato and the lady behind the counter informed me that I get a different flavor for each of my three scoops.. i opted for the pistachio the tiramisu and the ricotta and fig. I thought the tiramisu would be my favorite but it ended up being the ricotta and fig. The pistachio was second favorite and the third was tiramisu. Dont get me wrong tiramisu wasn't bad, it just wasn't as tasty as the other two were to me on that day. All the other flavors look delicious behind the glass tempting me. The interior was neat and clean with bright lighting. Would definitely come back and try another three flavors when the weather heats again. read more

I've passed by this very cute gelato shop so many times, but I hadn't gone until one hot day during the summer. It's small and cute, but there are lots of gelato flavors to choose from! The woman behind the counter was very nice and let me try a bunch of flavors before I made my selections. The gelato I got was really yummy and I was able to sit outside to enjoy it. Very solid gelato. I wouldn't say it's the best in Los Angeles but for sure it's the best in Santa Monica. The texture is good, the flavors could be a little richer in my opinion. For sure I'll be back again to try some new flavor. Prices are more than fair for what you get. read more

Got chocolate & pistachio flavors! the pistachio tastes EXACTLY LIKE THE NUT. I was mindblown when I tried this because I didn't expect an ice cream to taste exactly the same as the nut. Yelp had this gelato place quite convincing due to most review gained in Santa Monica area. We walked a mile away to reached this place expecting creamy and delish ice cream. The ice cream we ordered was mint and pistachio which tasted great, though not perfect because the ice cream was a little melted upon serving, this possibly caused by no A/C in the premise while open during summer. Additionally the ice cream's texture was already melty on the freezer counter. Not sure if that's the normal condition or they just had their AC and freezer out on that day. read more

Was walking along Main St one night after dinner and this looked like a cute little place to pick up dessert. How can one say no to gelato? They had a pretty decent menu and the staff were bubbly and friendly. I tried a few samples and ultimately landed on a split cup of hazelnut and stracciatella. Dolcenero Gelato on Main Street in Santa Monica offers a nice selection of gelato in a variety of flavors. Yesterday while in Santa Monica and after lunch and leaving Augie's I saw this gelato shop and stopped inside. The gelatos looked spectacular and yummy. I was able to sample a few: Coffee, Ricotta and Fig and Stracciatella...I chose the later. It tasted lighter yet creamy and so yummy. It was the perfect treat to cool off from this heatwave. I usually don't eat ice cream and gelato especially if I witness bare ungloved hands scooping it out, and if the gelato looked too picked out. Neither was the case here. The girl behind the counter was nice and helpful. A few seats inside and there were outside patio seating but the shop did NOT have air conditioning! The refrigeration from the gelato did NOT cool the shop at all. I felt sorry for the girl or any staff member having to work in substandard conditions, that merits 1 star. The child cup gelato was yummy though and worth a try. read more

What a low life business. Bought a gelato, wanted 1/2 chocolate and half hazelnut. Charged me .50c extra. (Guess it's a lot of work to scoop two flavors) Then was charged another .50c for their "Premium" selection. The one server asks the other server if I should be charged twice, supposedly both the ones I selected were premium. Premium what exactly? They all looked the same to me except different colors and flavors. REALLY LAME. read more

I was just at this location with my family where we patiently waited for our turn. When we got to the front, the woman working with purple hair made a point to ignore me and give preferential treatment to the woman with blond hair behind me. In the queue I was next to pay, this employee brought the other lady to the register ignoring me again and had to wait on her because her husbands ice cream was not ready-- instead of servicing us first to complete the order. My honest review is that the gelato was just alright, I wasn't particularly impressed. I will admit I think my opinion is skewed as I was recently in Italy and had tried some great ones there. I just didn't feel that the texture or the flavors were all that great, it tasted like cheaper gelato to me. Their portions however are massive, but match their high prices. read more

Meh. There are better places to get gelato. We went here initially because we saw they had vegan options. Only 2 when we got there. Not the best, but at least they had something vegan. For the area, they could have been better for vegans. I got the banana which was fine. My friend tried the ricotta and fig. The tasting spoon was good because it had the ice cream with a bit of the fig drizzle on it. When she got that flavor in a cut, there was no drizzle (no fig). It was a bland ricotta scoop. She couldn't finish it. They really need to incorporate the fig throughout. Maybe as a swirl in there or something. The way it is right now, it is pretty gross. The service was efficient. Great place to get a sweet treat! The worker who helped us was super friendly and informative. She let us know which flavors were sugar free, vegan, etc. I was surprised that the small size came with 2 huge scoops. I thought it was one of those "floater" type scoops where it looks huge, but the actual bottom of the cup was empty, but not at all! I also liked that even though you order with a cup, you get a piece of the waffle cone on top. Very sweet, crispy, and delicious. I got a small cup with 2 scoops: 1) Sea Salt Caramel: -Not overly sweet. Uniform caramel flavor throughout. Only slightly salty. -Not bad. 2) Ricotta & Figs: - This was a wildcard flavor that I wanted to try & the worker said it goes great with the caramel. She wasn't wrong! -I think there was actual caramel in this flavor because it tasted much stronger than the sea salt caramel. -Very sweet with actual fig pieces in it. My brother got strawberry and I think hazelnut, both tasted very good too. All the gelato that we had was very smooth and delicious to eat. Just be wary because on the way from the shop back to our car it melted super fast despite it being a cold December evening. read more

Absolutely love this place!! I love that they have vegan flavors as well. I tried their vegan chocolate sorbet and figs with ricotta cheese flavor. Both are to die for!! Despite the chocolate flavor being vegan, it was still creamy and very flavorful. I love dark chocolate and it had that taste. Exceeded my expectations for this flavor. Figs with ricotta cheese was even creamier. It had pieces of fig and was overall super delicious. Not overly sweet either. For two orders of the two scoops came out to about $16. Unfortunately, our waitress, Coco, came to our table approximately three or four times during our entire visit. She was rude, rarely checked on us, and made what should have been a special birthday dinner unnecessarily frustrating. We had been seated for approximately an hour before our main entrée order was even taken. While that was already frustrating, we tried to be understanding and let it go. However, when Coco finally came to take our order, she gave us only a few seconds to decide. When we paused briefly, she walked away and said she would "give us more time." Unfortunately, we then did not see her again for another 20 minutes. To make matters worse, one of the entrées we ordered was the bucatini cacio e pepe with added salmon. The salmon arrived completely raw and nowhere near medium. We brought this to the manager, who asked whether we wanted the salmon removed, re-cooked, and placed back on the same pasta, or whether we wanted a new pasta dish. Ultimately, the same piece of salmon was cooked a little longer, and we were given new pasta. Given that the salmon had initially arrived completely raw, I was extremely uncomfortable with simply having the same piece cooked further and having to hope that it was safe to eat. Unfortunately, by that point, the experience had already taken away from what was supposed to be my birthday celebration. The final interaction with Coco made the situation even worse. While I was speaking with the manager, she came over and, in what felt like a very passive-aggressive tone, asked whether I still wanted my birthday platter, despite the fact that she had already given us the bill. I understand that restaurants can have busy nights and that mistakes happen. What was most disappointing was the lack of attentiveness, the attitude we received, and the fact that basic service was lacking despite the automatic 20% gratuity. Lukas was genuinely the one bright spot in the experience. He was kind, polite, and made an effort to address the situation, and I appreciate that. Unfortunately, his efforts could not undo how the evening had gone. For a birthday dinner, especially at a restaurant with this type of atmosphere and price point, I expected much better. If I could, I'd give this place zero stars. I live just two minutes away, and it's been my go-to for the past six years, but after today, I'll be finding another gelato spot. When I first started coming here, it was great the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. Now, the service has gotten terrible. There's one staff member who seems to only be nice if you're fair-skinned. I tested this with my girlfriend, who is white she was served immediately and treated much better than I was. This has been going on for a while now. The place is also outdated and dirty. It's obvious it hasn't been properly cleaned in years. The gelato, which used to be the main draw for me, is no longer worth the visit. Portions vary depending on who's serving, and some scoopers are way more stingy than others. The quality has really dropped as well. Some of the less popular flavors look stale and gummy, which makes it clear they're not replaced often enough. On top of that, they now charge extra for things like "premium" flavors or splitting a scoop, 50 cents each. It's not much, but it feels like they're just nickel-and-diming you at every turn. What's next charging for the cup and spoon? I won't be coming back, and neither will my family. They've lost my business for good read more

I visited Dolcenero Gelato on Main Street in Santa Monica last night to celebrate my son's birthday, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. My son's favorite flavor, strawberry, was removed from the display just before we ordered, despite my request to keep it. I asked the employee to hold off on removing it, but she ignored me. When I voiced my frustration about the situation, the employee was not only dismissive but downright rude, showing no regard for my concerns. However, I want to commend the owner of Dolcenero Gelato for his response. After speaking with him this morning, he immediately acknowledged that the employee was in the wrong and apologized for the incident. To my surprise, the owner went above and beyond, personally delivering a large container of strawberry gelato to my home in the afternoon as a gesture of goodwill and an apology for the poor service we received. This level of commitment to customer satisfaction is rare, and while the initial experience was far from acceptable, the owner's actions were a true testament to his care for his customers. I won't let one rude employee overshadow the dedication of the owner, and I look forward to giving Dolcenero another chance. read more

The service is the reason why I'm giving 2 stars. I came with my children and the girl who served me was wearing a bra as a shirt. She seemed like she didn't want to be there and this is not a family friendly restaurant. I want to come and eat my gelato with my family in a CHILD FRIENDLY setting without having to see someone's bare back, chest and stomach while handing me my food. Tucked away in a small plaza with cars parked in front, it didn't catch my eyes until I was eating at the Thai vegan next door. Curious, I decided to try it out after my dinner. Bad service. This place is definitely not cheap and to top that the service sucks. You can't get a small with waffle cone even though they charge a dollar for it. How does that make any sense. There is no air conditioning working there which is totally against labor laws. You can't have a store that hot with your staff working there. It has so much pop of color, so much flow, so much good energy. Though, it was very busy in design, it was still a very chill place to be, very relaxing. The service was fantastic, the young lady who helped me was so kind and patient with me. I was down to my last $13 for my trip and I wanted dessert. She helped me make the right decision for me. She was really great, I really appreciate her, and I didn't even spend the whole $13. Prices are reasonable there. I got the dolewhip in the cone with almonds, mini mochi, and caramel. So delicious. It was indeed made with love, as it was made to order. I got lucky with my photos because a huge crowd came in after I placed my order, so don't let my photos fool you. This place does get busy. There were six people when I got there that were leaving and about twelve when I left. I highly recommend Turn Dough if you want a refreshing treat, especially to walk around at the promenade or Ocean Ave.

I love ice cream and enjoy the experience and process of not just tasting the ice cream but the process of selecting the flavors: smelling waffle cones being made when you enter, seeing different colors and flavors displayed, learning about the flavors, etc. So I was disappointed that none of the ice cream flavors are displayed on-site but are stored in the back. You order from a menu and they bring out the ice cream in a cup. For me, it took away the magic of getting ice cream. Flavors are unique, which was the reason why I wanted to try them in the first place. I love exploring new and unique flavors but the taste was average. It didn't feel like the fullest expression of the flavors they represent. The texture also wasn't creamy enough, so I am hesitant to even call it "gelato." It was more icy than creamy in my opinion.

I can't stop thinking about this ice cream. Such unique flavors, and did not taste artificial at all. Everything tasted delicious. I didn't feel too heavy after eating it. They put a piece of waffle cone in your ice cream that they make fresh there. I particularly love the honey flavored ice cream w some pieces of cake in it! Ooopf and the sorbet! So incredible. This is my new favorite ice cream spot. They also had unique flavors, like one with dates, one with peach, black cherry, etc., etc. If you haven't been to the spot, you're sleeping on it. Service was so nice, the woman helping us out was so friendly and was very generous on giving a samples. The place is very clean and has a convenient parking lot underground. Places to sit inside and outside. Definitely coming here anytime I want ice cream.

It's played out ya'll. But I give this Frutti shop love for serving gelato, the overlooked step-sister of frozen yogurt. A refreshing dessert after a round of burgers at The Counter!
