I dropped my cannondale road bike off at the fruitvale bart station bike shop for a full tune up. I mainly did it out of convenience as it's my morning commute so an easy drop off and pick up. I went to get my handlebars replaced, along with my cabling and stem. Alameda Bicycles told me to wait 10 days before they can even look at my bike. They recommended Ed at Fruitvale Bike Station. Ed got to my bike immediately. He identified some stuff I got wrong (wrong stem). He also recommended some great quality, economical shifters. He made sure that I was really satisfied with his work before accepting any more work/money. After the handlebars were replaced, I was super stoked and had him replace my worn out 90's shock fork to a quality cromoly rigid one (at a really nice price). I recently got a tune up for my bike here and it was an excellent experience. I dropped it off early in the morning and about an hour later I got a text with a detailed estimate. They followed up with a voicemail but I really appreciate the text because at my job I'm usually too busy to answer my personal phone. My bike would have been ready that same day but I got back to them too late in the afternoon, so it was ready the very next day. It rides so smooth now! I have also been parking my bike at the Fruitvale bike station for years. I know it is safe and in good hands.. Plus the employees are always really friendly. In the evening when I get back from working in the city and I'm just exhausted and down, it always cheers me up when they've got my bike for me even before I reach their door. read more

I think this might be my first yelp review and it is because I loved my experience with the bike repair shop. I've always been a diy-er but really wanted to go on a long ride with not enough time for me to do the repairs myself. So I called up my closest bike shop and they were amazing. my bike was riding better than when I first picked it up from a Craigslister. the mechanic went above and beyond to make sure everything was tight and right and I highly recommend their work. read more

Realized I had a flat after getting off work late last night and had to walk home. It's a good thing I don't mind the long leisure walk. I had a spare or two at the house. They are good people and always take care of my needs in a professional manner. Being that I ride a custom built BMX Racing bike I am overly carefully about who touches or watches (parking) her. This morning I discovered a slow leak in my back tire. So I rushed to the Bike Station to get a inner tube change. Dropped off the bike and 45 mins later I picked up the bike. They were fast, professional, reasonably priced, and friendly--none of patronizing vibe I've sometimes gotten from male bike mechanics. Difficult to park however good service. I recommend there services. They installed a bike rack that need to be redrilled and bolted.

My kick scooter got something stuck in the wheel and axial part. It was a simple solution, take the nut off with a standard L key, take the fabric or whatever was stuck out and put the nut back. The guy was too lazy to bother saying repeatedly he has been told not to work on scooters. Kept arguing how he does not get paid to serve anything that's not a bike and some rules that his employer gave him. He had the skills and the tools bud didn't want to bother because some rules from his employer. He didn't let me borrow the key in front of him so I could it myself. This was one of the worst lazy experiences at the Fruitvale area Iv has so far. read more

Eduardo is about educating bike riders. I got an e bike and went by his shop for a helmet. Great service and he gave me advice about tire pressure as well. Today, BIKE TO WORK DAY he took time out to help me by putting air in my tires and advising me on maintenance, lights for my bike and even said I didn't need an item I was going to buy. That's honesty and integrity. I bought a water bottle holder and since he wasn't busy at the moment he installed. Moments later two more customers came in and he handled them quickly and efficiently. Baby was up and running in no time. Turned that gimpy ol' bike in to a stallion. When it's time for new (better) bike, I know who to trust it with. I called ahead to see if they had the size tire for my flat stroller tire. I know NOTHING about tires and the guy was able to guide me through the phone where to find it on the tire. Once I came in, the gentleman was very friendly and approachable when I asked for help. My main concern was getting ripped off into buying more than I needed but they showed me where the holes and I saw for myself the repairs I needed. i called about having my bike maintenanced before going to burning man. i didn't catch the guy's name, but he was friendly and knowledgable and said he had to take a look at my bike before quoting me what needed to be done. this is compared to all the other bike repair shops i called who said they charged a minimum $125-150. i brought my bike in, he called the next morning and said it just needed a tune-up for $25 and i could pick it up in an hour. excellent customer service. my bike looks great and excited to ride it on the playa. read more

(When I had dropped off, they were busy parking all of the commuter bikes, otherwise they would have done it while I waited. Super friendly staff and very helpful. Are you kidding me...anything less than 5 stars is crazy. This place is a staffed repair shop and lock-up station for 200 bikes! It's free Monday-Friday. There's no charge for leaving your bike overnight, but if you leave it for more than one night, it's only $5 a night. The process is easy, just sign in, get a number, leave. When you come back, just give a staffer you're ticket and they'll bring you your bike. Of course, tips are always welcomed. :) read more

I've been parking my bike at here for over six years. I agree with all the over positive review comments. I see these folks first thing in the morning before work and after work. I may have had a tough time getting the kids to school or a rough day at work, but these guys are always super friendly, helpful, and courteous. Mike, Matt, Charlie, and Travis are the best. Not only do they offer valet parking for your bike, so you can rest assure it's caged up before heading to Bart, but they perform repairs and routine checkups on your bike. So when I get a flat on my way to the shop, I can just ask if they can fix it. Usually they'll have it fixed by the time I'm back from work. And the valet parking is free! What more could you ask for? If you commute to work on Bart and was thinking about getting a bike, the Fruitvale Bike Station is the place to factor into your decision. I live in Fremont. I had a loose kickstand. Fruitvale was the only open bike repair shop open in the area. Busted my booty to Fruitvale, met Miguel, told him what's wrong, he took a look at it, had a wrench, fixed it, and I was on with my day. What: A free bike valet service (yes, free valet!) with secure, indoor storage, open early every weekday, and late into the evening -- a blessing amid my hectic morning commute. The bike experts who work here will fix your bike while you're at work all day, for incredibly low cost. They'll even check your tires and fill your air for free! They installed a beautiful pair of fenders on my bike after an unpleasant rainy-day commute last winter, and they've held up wonderfully. Saved me lots of time and money, too! Where: the Fruitvale BART station, on the border of my not-so-lovely neighborhood and Alameda (one of the last places you'd want to lock your bike up outside all day -- and why this place is even more awesome!) Who: The guys who work here are Great. They're friendly, helpful, hardworking, and extremely knowledgeable. They quickly learned my name and bike by sight. Mike, the manager, seems to know every commuter who passes through, and is always happy to help with any kind of repair. The customer service was not the best but probably because the young folks working at Bike Station did not know how to handle the situation. Anyway, I have a rule that when the manager reaches out to you after a bad experience, it speaks volumes of the management and the business and they deserve fair feedback.
