They gave me an estimate which seemed quite reasonable and didn't try to upsell me on anything like buying an entirely new bike The bike was fixed as promised and I was very happy to use them. They seemed very sincere and they're just trying to make a few bucks while they are in school. I highly recommend that you give them a try if you have some idea what you want and don't want to spend too much money on fixing up your bike.

I went in there for a very obscure part and they managed to find it with like three minutes until closing time. It was this washer that is part of my front fork assembly, one of those washers that keeps the wheel from falling out even if the skewer comes undone. Anyway, they had it, they gave it to me for free, and it just made me realize that places like this are amazing and rare and we should definitely support them. So I do! And so should you. Next time I'll buy something that cost more than $0... (I did throw some money into the tip jar)

I also live in Walnut Creek and decided to go with a more "local" (used to live in Alameda) shop. Originally I was going to go for an Letric bike, but got convinced to go for the Veloric. So Vivee was nice enough to let me test ride one that was in the shop for service and I decided to buy one, but they didn't have any in stock. She asked if I can use Zelle and I wanted to use card, but she said she would face a 3.5% fee. Ok sure. We also bonded over tennis as well since my brother played and her kids play it and she was a hitting partner, which we found funny. We go over the options on what the bike looks like, what options I wanted and add-ons. I got a date of mid-April, probably more on the early end for me to pick up including assembly and shipping. Veloric would take 3-10 days to ship (from their site for direct to consumer) and then it would take time to assemble. So I presumed, ok, maybe it's quick and coming early. I'll call! I text Vivee on March 20 and she said she would check Monday when she got back. I didn't see a response. So I text back on Monday to check. No response. I call the shop (no response). I text again (no response). It's now 4/7 and yes I called and left a message on the phone and text. So the lack of response + Zelle payment + reviews I didn't read up here = panic. I decided to go and call Veloric to see what's happening. Veloric told me to try to work it out and confirmed there was a fold 1 that was delivered, but they couldn't confirm this was mine. Vivee did eventually answer the phone on 4/9, but said she was waiting on the shipment and said that she ordered a pallet and blamed the tariffs for the delay. So I decide to go in 4/23 when my bike was supposed to be there, but it turns out it wasn't. She told me she was ordering a pallet and she would install my bike first. She also said it was difficult to talk to Veloric's customer service team since there were trade shows. Turns out she lied. I had been in contact with Veloric's customer service team since March because I read some of the reviews and there was a Reddit post on them buying a bike there with a few other horror stories on people getting repairs and either never getting them done and having to pay upfront. Veloric told me they had not gotten an order from Westside Joe's since March 16 and I had come in on March 17 to order my bike. I truly wanted to support a woman owned minority business in my hometown of Alameda. But unfortunately, they are unable to be transparent on ETAs to the point where the manufacturer had to check for me and now I have to dispute with my bank. I've also posted my story to Alameda Peeps, and it looks like there are more horror stories. Moral of the story: It's great to shop local, but please be careful on who you chose to do business with.

They sell mid-price range bikes, so no $300 bikes or $14,000 bikes. I bought my first new bike here after graduating from Cal, and got my first Wall Street bonus, moons ago. It was my dream bike, a black Cannondale, top of the line. After that, got married and had children and Gene saw me through training wheels through teenage years, then sadly through a divorce. Back in a bike and climbing mountains - loving life! Anyway, today, after trying all night to get my chain back on my new e-bike (not possible on the road) I walked in and George was at the door. He sensed my frustration and said, "Come on in." It wasn't an easy fix. But they worked on it, two guys 25 minutes, and 5 tools. Meanwhile, I walked into the showroom to check out the bikes (tee hee hee). Then I noticed a new coffee and tea station with a couch and chairs, and Madeline cookies. It's just what I needed after a frustrating night and morning trying to fix it myself. Such a mindful and kind touch. People easily complain, so positive heartfelt reviews are gold. Alameda Bicycle is a solid community member and business. Honest. If I don't need something, George will say, "You don't need that." Last time, I picked up some gorgeous Ortlieb panniers (which they installed) and a fix-a-flat for on the road flats. I usually work on my own bi, but occasionally I ask a real mechanic to tackle stuff. In this case, I had a home tubeless setup that failed twice. I called Greg, and he asked me all sorts of questions to help determine the cause of my problem. I explained that the tire was seated properly, and it was previously holding air just fine. I also improvised a valve by cutting one out of an old tube, and we determined together that was probably the culprit. My rims take tubeless Schrader valves, which is pretty rare, but I tend to take this bike on multi-day trips, and being able to pump up my tires at any gas station is a huge advantage. I also had an overnight bikepacking trip coming up in a few days. Greg didn't have the necessary Schrader valve available to fix my wheel at his shop, but he recommended another shop that might. I called the other shop, and they luckily had the part that I needed, so I was able to go get my wheel sorted out the same day! I will definitely call up Greg again the next time I need someone to work on my bikes.

I was always cold even when the heat was "blasting". ATLAS did a thorough and patient analysis of our old system. They decided to double up the ducts to provide more air flow, and they also organized the flow inside the ducts: it worked. Frankly, the final cost was reasonable, considering the benefits I am getting from it. I particularly recommend Nick and Scott who supervised the project: they really looked into the project, then fixed the problem. Plus: the work was clean, and the communication great all along. I appreciate the convenient location and fast, friendly, knowledgeable service. I had a flat tire that was totally stressing me out. Thankful this shop was in walking distance to my house, and had everything necessary to do the job. The manager ( I think his name was Matt) was very knowledgeable, and gave me some info about my (unbeknownst to me) very outdated bike. He even gave me some pointers on selecting a new bike. I appreciate his honesty also. I knew my brakes were getting bad, and instead of selling me to make a few extra bucks, he advised me to keep my money and invest in a new bike. He left me with the reassuring comment that at least I shouldn't have to worry about anyone trying to steal my bike. (...awkward) lol Overall good place, and I thank yelpers for their reviews that helped me find the place, and saved me a longer, more strenuous and more expensive trip to another shop. read more

Literally took a 1-2 minute phone call to place my new bike order via phone. They verified my voucher number, confirmed my preferred bike choice, and informed me of the price and the anticipated pickup date. The overall process worked SO well and was SO efficient, that I honestly thought it was a scam, but I was pleasantly surprised when it all actually went according to plan! From date, to price, to customer service, it was all top of the line! They had a full bike shop of mainly XP4s waiting for pick up and this is probably why! This place had the best turn around dates, by far! I ordered the Lectric XP4 and everywhere else was claiming 2-3 month turnarounds for delivery and full assembly and King Kog promised a 2-3 week turnaround, and they actually delivered on time! Their process is so efficient. Everywhere else the process was super clunky and wanted 2-3 emails to process the voucher and here I was able to do it efficiently on the phone, all in one go. Can't recommend this shop enough!

The minute he arrived, I recognized him from days dealing with R&A cycles in Walnut Creek. I was instantly relieved because I had nothing but great experiences with him when he worked at that shop. However, now that he's freelancing AND mobile, I'm much happier! I knew a few things that needed to be done on my bike but Will identified a few other minor fixes that got my bike back to "as new". He figured out my rear drive-side bearing was shot, the seat post clamp had some grit in it, causing creaks, and the sealant was low in both tires. Awesome! He also serviced my Ceramic Speed bottom bracket, replaced the front chainring, and fixed a warp in the rear rotor. It's fitting that the guy who built my bike when it was new got it back to "as new" again - and the cost was absolutely a deal. In short - having a super-talented, super-nice guy come to your door and take care of your beloved bike(s) is exactly what I need in my busy life. Highly recommended!

I get flats every other week and can now just pop over to the Embarcadero from work rather than bussing the bike home to fix it. The Bikestation has been a godsend for those rare occasions that I choose to bike to work. Thieves…read morerun rampant in this town, and having already had a car stolen months within months of moving here, I'd hate to have to feel that type of violation all over again. Though I get into work before they're even open, I wheel the bike over once they are so I can be assured that it stays safe during the day; it's less stress on me, and I don't have to constantly check up on it to make sure it's still there. The station is manned weekdays during rush hour--7:30-9:30 in the morning, 3-7 in the evening--and is completely free. Give the friendly staffer your name, lock up your bike, and you're good to go. Bikestations are located in Seattle and four other CA cities: Berkeley, Long Beach, Palo Alto, and Santa Barbara. Except for the latter two, obtaining a paid membership is optional, with different plans allowing free overnight parking and access during weekend/non-staffed hours. Unfortnately, due to a mechanical problem, the after-hours access system to this station is currently down. With gas prices continually rising, cycling is becoming a more viable transportation option to those used to relying on other methods. Knowing there's a safe place to park your two-wheeler, there's even less excuse to not ride.
