Amigos Original Salsa…read more I love salsa, but I rarely eat it outside of restaurants because it's hard to find a good store-bought version. Problem solved. I recently tried Amigos Original Salsa (Hot), which is made in Boise, Idaho. This salsa has no preservatives or additives, so you need to eat it quickly. Trust me, you won't have a problem doing so. The ingredients in the Hot salsa are: tomato juice, fresh tomatoes, Japanese chilies, onions, garlic, cilantro, salt, pepper and spices. I have included a photo of what this salsa looks like in its original container, below in the comments. Be sure to look carefully towards the right side of the image to determine if you are buying Mild, Medium or Hot. Because of the way it's packaged, it's easy to miss. I didn't see it at all when I bought it and assumed that this salsa just came in heat level. I bought mine at Winco, along with some fantastic Winco store made tortilla chips, which I highly recommend. They're better than anything you will find on the shelf. I started to eat my chips and salsa and was amazed by the fantastic flavor of both. I'm not someone who delicately dips my chips and salsa. I'm more of a "salsa scooper." If I find a great salsa at a restaurant, I always run out of the salsa long before the chips. That's exactly what I was doing with my first container of Amigos, when it suddenly caught up with me. I stopped in my tracks and said out loud to my cats, "Why is this so hot?" I took a closer look at the packaging. By that time, I had consumed enough of the salsa that I could clearly see my container was marked "Hot." Indeed, it was. If you like hot salsa with lots of flavor, Amigos delivers. I am sure the Mild and Medium flavors are great too. Owner Gil Portocarreno used to own a restaurant with the same name. I never had the chance to visit his restaurant, but boy am I glad has continued continuing to make his salsa. Gil was born in Peru. His mother taught him how to plant and grow his own vegetables. He came to the United States in 1979 with the dream of making salsa with Peruvian chilies. I don't know if it's still available or not, but according to his FB page, he makes a Peruvian salsa for sale too. Amigos salsa is sold at Albertsons, Winco, and The Boise Co-op. We tried a couple of other local food delivery services that didn't do as they promised in food quality or process. Clean Cuisine by Gina gets it right every time. THE OPTIONS: When you order you choose from a set menu that is either omnivore or vegetarian, both menus change weekly, or "build your own bag" which is what we choose to do making selections from both menus. Many, maybe even most, of the options are also gluten free. My husband and I lean vegetarian about 85% of the time and when we do use animal proteins we are so choosy about sourcing that we particularly appreciate Gina specifies her source for them and they are ones we also use. Simple. MAGIC WAND SUGGESTIONS: If I could wave a magic wand, I'd have them list the ingredients in the dish in the description on the order site. One can email to get it in advance and ingredients are listed on card inserted with order at delivery, but for purposes of allergy and preference both considered ahead of order, it would be helpful to know on the site. Also, an observation is there are times when the image on the order site does not match the item delivered. For grounding example, the braised short ribs shown on site perched on a mound of mashed potatoes all in a pool of lovely gravy in reality came on top of mashed potatoes with gravy spooned over all. It was a delicious dish, and a treat for us as I seldom choose to cook beef at home, but it didn't plate up anywhere near the photo since gravy was minimal and not separate for serving. TIP: The glass containers for the entrees intended to be served hot are oven safe but they are so well packed, as in full, that the heating times on the insert cards are substantially understated if you choose to use the container in the oven. We've found it it works best to remove the contents to heat in a larger dish. DELIVERY FEE: $15 but is waived with minimum order of $75. Pick up is included in price.

Ten meals per week do get consumed, so having them fresh not frozen and completely without preservatives never becomes an issue. The green smoothies combining spinach, chunks of pineapple, a little coconut, and mint add fiber in drinkable form. Everything is great! I forgot to take pictures of the food because it smelled so good in my car and I immediately devoured it when I got home. The lumpias were delicious! It goes by quick when you're eating, so I can see why they sell them in bulk (which ends up being cheaper too!). The siopau was really good too! All in all, a great stop for Filipino food in Boise!
